Why folks level multiple alts in ESO?

Need Mules for storage space because after buffing/adding more sets and items to ESO for 3 years and only addressing space once and that was doubling it for ESO subscribers, this situation is engineered to force you to sub for any sort of QoL and thats not even enough - i run 14 characters, a dead guild for 500 more spaces and that isnt enough for my account.

Reason i store many bound items is because of trait change and the game being overhauled every year changing everything instead of gradual tweeks. Glad i saved those infused and soon to be buffed decisive items because deleting them would have me re-farming so much and thats not fun with dirt RNG.

Coupled with alliance restrictions, you have to have different characters in different factions if you PvP to get the most out of game play. EP zerging the map, change to AD and vice versa nevermind counting on certain times EP have the map, or DC/AD have the map.

I should also add writs for Legendary writs to get vouchers which are mainly spent on furnishing plans to complete them and to complete the new recipes the writ vendor has, within any decent timeframe. Couldnt imagine trying to do all that with 1 character doing writs. Even though my main knows all motifs in the game/9 trait, he gets little in the way of legendary writs which over months shows it is not RNG, its a poor drop rate for them.

I have 14 characters because when balance patches happens. Usually they completely change the META. Also because racial passives are OP AF.

Imagine being a nord trying to deal magicka damage. Or imagine having a high elf trying to deal stamina damage or tank. That's why I have all these characters. So no matter where ZOS decide to go with is extreme changes in balance. I will not be left behind like I was in my first year of playing this game.

Or imagine a Breton Sorceress becoming a Stam Sorc! Oh, wait...she's my main DPS and does just fine in the DPS department. (Let's not talk about Altmer Mag Sorc tanks...)

Look, racial passives are beneficial and I'll happily admit that my Breton Stam Sorc would be better as a Redguard in terms of racial passives even though that would utterly destroy her character as I've imagined her. However, racial passives are not actually important for completing any content except possibly trials, and even then I expect that player skill makes up for a non-optimal choice.

Racial Passives are important in as much as its easier to play with a race that fits the playstyle and it does make a difference if someone is reaching for top level DPS or competing in PVP. However, with the exception of maybe trials, maybe, any race can complete all content in any class or attribute focus as long as the player has sufficient skill and experience.

I created a Templar because I like their play style better than the Nightblade, it is what I should have rolled from day 1.
I also created another Nightblade to spec differently than the first, one for PvP, one for PvE.

Among others... really just to try different things. It isn't just about the class role, some classes play differently. Nightblade and Templar are quite different.

Main- magplar-but also doing All the crafts, this one gets to see the whole world(pretty much has to for all the shards and every available skill point)

Alt 1 - magblade- cash cow - hangs in zones murdering for gold

Alt 2 - stamblade - pvp alt - building for stealth kills - also backup on armor/weap crafting for additional hireling

Alt3 - magsorc - taking my time on this one, want to play it eventually- for now backup on consumable crafting for additional hireling

Alt 4 - stamplar - original main, on the shelf for now - does daily provisioning writ hoping for purple recipes and levels stable only.

Alt 5 - DK - directionless - haven't done much at all but does daily writ and leveling the stable as well

Slot available for a warden but time is more than maxed with first 4 toons so prolly never

To have optimised chars in all roles

To experiment other classes and playstyles (stamina/magicka)

To switch toon whenever you like it without having to redo regrind reoptimise

To get free hirelings deliveries (more of them)

    To do more writs

    To be on different factions

    To do more dailies

I'm sure like numerous people have mentioned already...

while it IS possible to play all three roles, and even break out of the roles, with all the classes - each class does it's various roles differently - and figuring out how a nightblade sap tank might be different from a templar self-heal tank vs a templar mitigation tank vs a mag sorc shield tank...I find those variations to be interesting

Because I don't want to just use the same skills in different ways. The play style of a stamsorc is different from a Templar. The play style of a stamblade is different from a magwarden. Who wants to stick to the limitations of one class?

Got 8 chars at max lvl but have levelled more than that to lvl 50, why? Because of I wanted to try every class and stamina/magicka versions from them. It's quite hard to test out for example magicka dragonknight unless you own one lol.

    Different playstyles, different purposes.

You can 'fill in the blanks' or roles required more with more options, and if you start to get bored with one or more characters, you can swap to the different experience of the other.

It's also a good safety net, since ZoS loves to switch things up on a regular basis, making some classes more viable than others from patch to patch.

You can also get multiple weekly rewards if you have multiple characters capable of completing them.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

Khajiit has a full compliment of apprentices yes.

Three are trained, or being trained, as Pocket Technicians so there is someone to do the essential work should Khajiit need to go and do other things in other places away from any guards.

    One cares for the camels.

Two are mages seeking the elixir of eternal youth - nine lives they are never enough.

One does the cooking and the laundry.

    One cleans the pool.

I'm never satisfied with what I create and always try new characters. I do this in every MMO. With 13 in ESO, 26 in SWTOR and many spread across multiple servers in WoW. Once I get to a certain level I don't delete.

I've lost count on the number of toons I've deleted in SWTOR, it is well over 50, and I currently have 14 active toons.
In WoW I have maybe 6 or 7 toons that ever get played, and a few others that have just sat there since creation, and I've deleted maybe 3 or 4 over the years.

My 1st toon in ESO was a Nord Sorcerer. But I just couldn't put up with those ugly pets, so I deleted it and started a Nord Magicka Templar, and it has been my main ever since, I have 3 other toons, but they pretty much never get played now; one was a "mess about" Nord Stam DK that I worked a very specific build around Bahara's Curse on so he could be a totally self-healing Stam Tank, but I haven't even logged in on that since Morrowind.

Because the game gets a major balance update every 3 *** months that shifts the world upside down, as for that all classes can perform 3roles, the truth is even in casual playing a templer healer performs better than a other classes, a dk tank perform better as well,
Since you are comparing this game with wow in this aspect, you can choose from 3 classes(Druid, Paladin and Monk) in wow and still do 3 roles efficiently, however in eso this is not the case even in casual playing, some classes/races in eso will outperform the other in a particular role in a noticable way.

In WoW, we had classes which were designed for a particular role in the holy trinity (tank , heals, dps).

For example Shaman class cannot be a tank at all and Warrior class cannot be a heals at all.

But correct me if I am wrong , with the exception of high end PVE stuff like vet trails, all classes can perform any of the 3 roles efficiently in ESO.

Also ESO’s leveling is more story oriented than others as such once you experience the story/lore/content you do not need to do the same quest again.

So why folks level multiple alts ?

    Varying play styles, my friend.

I have 14 characters. 8 are PvE (4 stam and 4 mag) and 6 are PvP (3 stam and 3 mag). Two tanks, two healer, Wardens, Dragonknights, Nightblades, Templars, and Sorcerers.

I love them all!!! Except my Orc Stam Sorc, because I haven't figured out rotation.

Even from the standpoint of WoW, the OP makes no sense.

Each class can be built for multiple roles (DPS Warrior, Tank Warrior, DPS Priest, Healer Priest, etc).
And even if you restrict to one role, there's piles of DPS classes. So if you make a Hunter as your DPS, you could still make a Wiz/Shaman/Warrior/DK/etc DPS.

WoW was a total "make more alts" game when I played it (admittedly, a long time ago). For all the same reasons people listed earlier in this thread - variety of playstyles, more access to daily activities, not wanting to keep respeccing the same character, wanting to earn more in-game resources, etc.

(Heck, I had more alts in WoW than I do in ESO. And they were all solo/DPS.)

    1. Mules/hirelings/writs.

    2. Characters in fundamentally different roles, e.g.:
    • Magicka DPS sorcerer
    • Templar healer
    • Stamblade thief
    • Crafter extraordinaire

    3. Alternate builds for similar roles. E.g. my original main is a Breton sorcerer. He's now my crafter. I have one Altmer sorcerer for generic endgame, and another I may use specifically for soloing (e.g. Clannfear rather than Volatile Familiar).

I have 12. If I had 100 then most of my personalities would finally be happy. Also, I like to come up with new personalities and characters. :#

But, for now, it's for access to and easier access to...

the multiple classes, races, builds, alliances, bag space, hireling mats, daily dungeons/quests, writs/writ turn in rewards...pretty much everything that benefits you for having multiple characters.

Costs less than spending gold to respec, less likely to run out of space for all the gear you're accumulating, saves time/gold when attempting to join specific content not having to respec.

Probably a lot more I'm not thinking of at the moment, but it's beneficial to me for many reasons.

For me the main reason is to try different kinds of builds in PVP. All the different races, classes, stamina or magicka, heavy, light, medium armor and with so many gear sets and diverse abilities there is a lot of flexibility in PVP to come up with interesting builds, even some stuff nobody else has tried before.

Second reason is more inventory space / crafting writs.

I agree it's a bit boring to do the same quest over and over and grinding is even more boring. Here is my process for each new character
    1. first get all the public dungeon skill points, takes a couple hours and by the time I'm done I'm around level 10 with 20 or so extra skill points.
    2. level up in Cyrodiil until around level 30 or so
    3. go get all the lorebooks to level up mages guild and/or fighter guild
    4. return to Cyrodiil continue leveling up to 50
    5. if need more skill points grab skyshards and do some of the main quest

Would be nice if we could level up at a reasonable pace in the lowbie battlegrounds, but currently it doesn't provide enough XP.

I have leveled every class in game except Stam Warden. Why? So I can learn how they work and when I run with others in group I know enough about the classes to be able to work more efficiently. For example: If I am Tanking I may not need to run Purge if there is a Templar in group. I would certainly know which Ability to ask about when talking with the Templar. Besides all that, it's fun learning and leveling different classes.
