Why folks level multiple alts in ESO?

In WoW, we had classes which were designed for a particular role in the holy trinity (tank , heals, dps).

For example Shaman class cannot be a tank at all and Warrior class cannot be a heals at all.

But correct me if I am wrong , with the exception of high end PVE stuff like vet trails, all classes can perform any of the 3 roles efficiently in ESO.

Also ESO’s leveling is more story oriented than others as such once you experience the story/lore/content you do not need to do the same quest again.

So why folks level multiple alts ?

Different specializations and different experiences with combat and gameplay. The truth is, a Templar healer will outperform a Dragonknight healer 9 times out of 10, so if you want to heal, that's the best way to go, even though it isn't necessarily the only way to go. Plus, it's fun to have different classes to get to experiment with the different skill sets offered. Like I main a magicka DK, but I love playing my stam NB because it's fun to use a different skill set to accomplish my goals. It provides a new challenge and a new play style to master.

I have 14 characters at max level. I change my "main" relatively often since all class/spec combos play quite different. I also have characters in all factions since for PvP, faction still counts.

I have alts because I enjoy playing them.

    Hmm

My main is a Stam NB.
And when I have the itch to do some healing I just spend around 8k and lo behold I am a healer now.

So again the amount of gold is the factor right ?

Assuming you are pretty rich like 100-200k (which is very high for me) then we can respec when we want right ?

More writs equals more chances at bonus material maps, master writs, and, yes, easy money.

You post here a lot. I cannot imagine you don't know the use or context of a 'build' in ESO.

More dailies equals more chances at motif drops, and, yes, easy gold. As well as levelling undaunted.

Also, I have 5 toons because I like to play this game combined with my enjoyment of variety.

    I've got 14.
1 for each class and spec(magic and Stam)

2 on a different alliance I made before dueling came out for dueling friends they are now mules

1 pve argonian Templar with spc worm

    I mainly pvp

I have 3 sorcs one Khajiit mainly for maelstrom dungeons skyreach carries.

1 magic that is currently a negate tank

1 Stam built specifically for werewolf groups

If I get home from work I don't want to have to take 30 min to get all gear skills and cp arranged for what we are doing. I'll just grab a class that's already setup. Plus leveling weapon ultimates take to long for me.

While true, any Class can fulfill any Role, it really comes to down to Gear, Skills, Attributes and Champ Points to make that happen. So, rather than respeccing and re-gearing for each dungeon depending on the role, we just have different characters for that. This allows me to optimize my Tank and Healer, and to provide a different kind of DPS (Damage, Sustain, Pet, Tanky etc) with just a character Log.

Also, as ZOS chases the ever elusive "Balance" in the game, some classes are favored for part of the year, while other's whither. So, no matter what ZOS does messing with the Classes, I can load a character that can get the job done.

Of course RP can have a lot to do with having multiple Alts. Inventory management is a mundane reason for multiple alts.

Finally, I get sick of seeing the same backside each day, so I like to change it up.

For the first year or year and a half, Alts were a total pain to level, as each one has to slog through the Vet Ranks. People today complain about the hours it takes to level an Alt, well, kiddos, it used to take months to level an Alt. So, until the Champ System came out, I only had 4 characters, one for each class. Now, I have 14, 4 Mules and 10 Mains, so I can do any content with any approach at any time with just a log. Heck I even have a Farmer character that no one is going to catch unless they are geared in the same specific way, to better farm mats with.

If you have multiple alts doing writs it means you get multiple rewards a day. This has become even more helpful for getting master writs as it gives you more chances a day to get one.

By dailies, the most important one he would be referencing is the Undaunted dailies. This is the same for the writs one. I can get multiple rewards a day. If I have three characters and do all three pledges on hard mode, thats 6 keys a person, 18 keys a day total by running them on all three characters. But there are also extra bonuses for trails, where there will be a bonus reward for doing it the first time that week. Again, multiple characters multiple rewards.

I'm never satisfied with what I create and always try new characters. I do this in every MMO. With 13 in ESO, 26 in SWTOR and many spread across multiple servers in WoW. Once I get to a certain level I don't delete.

You can do daily writs on multiple characters, giving you more rewards, like writ vouchers, which can be exchanged for unique items and recipes.

Builds means that you can have different characters doing different things, i.e., a pet sorcerer build is a character who utilizes daedric summoning skill lines for DPS, whereas a gank build is a character that maximizes burst damage and wears specific gear to increase stats useful to PvP to kill players quickly and from stealth.

Dailies give more rewards than gold, such as Undaunted Keys, which can be exchanged for monster shoulders.

I like having different alts because I don't like being stuck as one class and one character forever. Plus sometimes I like playing a guy (I have two guys, eight girls), sometimes I wanna be one of my khajiits, sometimes I wanna be one of my argonians.

Plus each class gives me a fresh feeling, playing a magicka templar is not the same as playing a stamina NB or even a stamina templar. So to me there are in a sense, 10 classes and they all feel different and fresh.

While I am an alt-aholic too, I have murdered many an alt. Max-level, whatever, I am indiscriminate, and will delete a toon the moment it 'bothers' me in any way.

This is annoying because on many an occasion ... I have gone and re-levelled the same class, race, combo, etc!

If possible I always like to try out every class in MMO's.

Roles and classes are two COMPLETELY different things.

A Nightblade can't be a Sorcerer, or a Dragon Knight, or a Templar, or a Warden. So we roll alts...to try out the different CLASSES.

For me, I have alts in here as i had alts in WoW and any other MMO i played, my Melee Stam Sorc dps is different than when it was Ranged Magika DPS, so is my Warden DPS diferent from my Nightblade DPS, my DK Tank is different from my Warden or Templar healers.. as in WoW my DPS Ranged Ice Mage was different than my Melee DPS Death Knight and my Tank Pally was different than any of them as it was before as Pally Healer or my DPS Warlock... i guess alts are for diversity?

Bc I can thats why! :D Seriously tho I love to make characters, its probably one of my very favorite things to do in this game. Been here since beta and still love that process. And I love naming characters, I will delete one just to make another if I think of an amazing name and then create something that fits that name. Also, I did all the questing on my main character, its most definitely not to do more questing, wont be doing that a 2nd time around.

So again, bc I can. <3

I'd rather have multiple characters I can switch to at a moment's notice than spending real $$$ on a race change and gold on respeccing skills/CP/attributes. Also for future patches in case of nerfs/buffs I like to have a few different DPS characters to choose from. It doesn't take too long to level an alt to 50, but some skill lines are annoying (Alliance War, Undaunted, Mages Guild) but I'd rather than do that than constantly respec.

    Short answer: variety.

Long answer: Playing the same character all the time is boring to me. There's currently no class change option in ESO so if I want to play all the classes I have to have at least 5 characters. Also while you can pay to change your build (changing from a healer to a tank for example) doing it a lot quickly becomes expensive and it takes a lot of time to reset all your skills, attributes and equipment. I'll often play 2 or 3 different characters a day, if I had to reset them each time I'd never get to actually play. There's also things like vampirism which is even more awkward to remove or reset.

Aesthetics also come into it. All my characters are different races and while I don't exactly role-play I do give all of my characters a backstory and personality, and that affects how I play them. They also use different equipment etc. for more variety.

And on top of all that there's what they're doing. One night I could be in the middle of exploring a public dungeon, I like to take my time exploring, and also make sure I find everything, so that can take more than the hour or two I have per night. When I log in the next day I may not feel like doing a dungeon right away. With just 1 character that would mean leaving in the middle of it and having to go back later. With multiple characters I can just log into a different one.

I'm fairly new and I wish I had multiple alts (intend to roll 1 or 2 in the double XP event). Farming undaunted keys would be so much easier if I could just run the easy vet dungeon on 3 characters rather than having to do the vet DLC ones on my single character.

Besides variety is the spice of life. Why would I not want other classes?

Not to mention that ESO focuses less on the holy MMO trinity than most MMOs do, just filling a specific role is not that important. It's about what else you're going to bring to the table (shields, shards, off-heals etc).
