An error, yet again

Hi there,

let me start by clearly stating, I love to play this game. After playing World of Warcraft and several other MMO's this game is what I really wanted. Ok, rant is on

It therefore saddens me (and pisses me off) that it is so *** poorly executed. A few weeks ago I decided to buy the game off steam. I installed it and got an error message about two files were corrupted. I searched the webs and found it to be common error (in that case why isn't fixed?) and a solution that didnt work. Well, I applied for a refund and got it.
I then tried to buy the game off the official website, which went fairly well until I tried to log in. I did get rid of the other error, but now got an error 210 (which I still have). This error however i could circumvent by running the game as an administrator (a solution I found on the ESO website in a thread two years or so back, so why hasn't this been adressed ?). This trick has gotten me this far.
Today however I get a new error message. At first I got the error that I didn’t have the right permissions. Then that one went away and now the “Play” button doesn’t respond.
What the hell, are you guys doing ? Are you hiring total *** and rejects from other companies ? I have played several MMO's and never have I experienced these problems. I can live with unbalanced gameplay or bugs, because that leaves hope for improvement and I can decide to play or not. But seeing as the game has been out for 3 years or so and you still cant figure out how to allow paying customers to log in, which should - by any standard, be a minimum.
Let me finish by saying I really do want to love and play this game, but it is just hard to.

    I've had similar problems since around morrowind... Every patch day is a ballache to get working again, needing multiple repairs, running as admin etc..

    All starting with a 'file in use by another process' error on the initial patch attempt

    i am having similar issue, after today patch its not working even after multiple repairs!

    The issue you've described seems to be what other players are encountering in the thread here. We've posted some troubleshooting here that may help with the launcher issue.

    Yeah - for me, its a combination of running as admin, restarting (As I think it leaves some process running when it fails), running as admin to do a repair first, another restart then check for updates (as admin).. its seems to take that kind of sequence to make it work. It probably shorter or not exactly right - but it does seem to take a number of goes to get it to work (and therefore a good hour or so).

    Its every patch nowadays, though. I'd like for it to not happen next time please!

    Hey, I have the same issue. I just play on NA/PC. I can login into the EU server just fine. Not into the NA server. I get to the character selection screen if I am lucky and then I get an unexpected error. For about 4 hours now.

    Tried repairing (3x so far), restarting, etc.

    Thanks for the reply. I will look into the suggested solution, even though I - at first sight, don't think I know how exactly to check my firewall and antivirus settings.Even if this is the problem, isn't it a problem you release a patch that interferes with the anti-virus program ?
    That being said, why are there so many work-arounds and quick-fixes (from the community I might add) to get this damn thing to work ? Should'nt it be straightforward to assume that if for instance the "Play" button worked pre-patch and it doesn't work postpatch (assuming the patch wasnt intended to break the "Play" button) somewhere along the line some f... it up ?
    I may be unlucky in the time I have been with the game, but there are seriously many issues to the most basic of things, in this case get it to even start.
    Can't you roll back the patch until you are sure it's the way it was intended ? And perhaps test next time ?

    Update: The game runs in 32bit, but not 64 as it did a few days back. So guess the firewall/antivirus isn't the problem after all.
