Does anybody on these forums play the game for fun?

Said it before and I'll say it again, the number of grown gamers that take playing videogames as serious or more serious than rl is mind boggling. I remember as a teenager rage quitting games, breaking my controller or worse my tv because something went wrong during my gaming session and me mums calmly telling me, "son it's a VIDEOGAME, nothing that happens in that world actually matters".

Haven't let a single thing in virtual worlds affect me since. Nerf my favorite class/weapon? Roll something new. Died 10 times to the same stupid boss/person? Play something else for a while and come back later with a fresh mind. I understand teens taking games serious, been there done that, but come on people, when you've allowed a freakin videogame to get under your skin and come racing to the forums to call for blood it's time to take a break from games, go outside and be reminded of things that actually matter.

Why am I on these forums? I originally started coming to forums as a time waster, to discuss my favorite games with other gamers, learn new things, tricks and what have you. I had no idea gaming forums were filled with complaints after complaints, boo hooing over this, boo hooing over that, my god the negativity is crushing. Been lurking in these forums for the better part of two years and I've wished for a long time that Zos would open a new section labeled grievances and complaints so the front page isn't littered with 90% complaint threads, in particular by folks who don't even play the game anymore.

TL;dr- it's just a freakin videogame. Sitting on your bum clicking buttons is not challenging or working hard. Don't allow not getting that new shiny pixel thingy to affect your enjoyment of playing videogames. Of course if you're only playing videogames to compensate for rl shortcomings or to feed your ego, by all means have at it, when bored I do enjoy reading the rage induced threads about pixels. You're not complaining because you care so much, you're throwing a temper tantrum because you've not gotten your way.

Well, some people tend to be serious about their hobbies. Its just human nature... and its not exclusive to gaming.
Some people spend thousands of dollars on collecting dolls, for example (this is not exaggeration, even a modern ball-joined doll might cost $700 and more... I'm not even talking about vintage ones). And many people in BJD community take their hobby very seriously.
Cosplayers are often very dedicated to their hobbies, too. Same can be said about bikers. Or about historical reconstructors. Or pretty much any other hobby.
But its really mind boggling when people try to claim that others shouldnt enjoy their hobbies because reasons. Everyone has a right to spend their free time as they want to - if theyre not doing something illegal, that is. You cant claim that your approach is the only true way, and everyone who disagrees must be stupid.
And yes, for some people "game"="childrens game". But also there's many people who think that comics/graphic novels are only for children and shouldnt be taken serioulsy, even though there are authors like Alan Moore, Frank Miller etc.

P.S. Gaming can be challenging. If it wasnt, e-sports wouldnt be a thing. And you would be able to get any vMoL/vHoF/whatever collectibles. ;)

Please don't put words in my mouth or debate an argument never implied. Not understanding a particular mindset does not equate to calling someone stupid. Never have I claimed people who disagree with my position on gaming were stupid, nor claimed that folks shouldn't take their hobbies seriously. Collectibles have value, I have a set worth thousands. Cosplayers showcase creativity, same with historical restructurtors. Restoring a vintage motorbike showcases skill and an advanced knowledge of mechanical workings.

Let us not pretend all hobbies are equal. If you find sitting on your bum, memorizing npc patterns and clicking buttons in a certain order to exploit said patterns challenging, with the exception of PvP you'll have to forgive me if I don't. Completing those said challenges laid out by you(vet trials) is a matter of practice and time, PvP being the one ever evolving challenge of overcoming another human player and their unpredictability.

Throwing a temper tantrum because you've not gotten your way in a videogame is unequivocally a childish response to an issue to which there is no justification for. Calling for someones job because they took away your favorite toy, again childish. Running to the forums to proclaim you are quitting (take that game!), instead of just quitting and playing something else, childish.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with behaving in a childish way in the privacy of your domain, it's the need to come running to the forums to put that behaviour on full display for all to see, essentially throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of the grocery store because mums said you can't have that candy bar that I don't understand.

There are tons of issues plaguing the game, often times lost due to the overwhelming amount of complaints because someone has to change up a build they've been playing for ages, or someone got killed by someone else so something is too op, etc.

Ye gods people if playing videogames is the means to pad your ego expect to get smacked back down to earth a few times as everyone else who is playing for their ego stroke wants a piece of the pie as well and the devs can't stroke everyones ego simultaneously.

Going a bit hard conflating the people who play at a serious level with the forum rage babies. Frankly, the people who get all angry as you describe tend not to have the maturity to even complete the content. We agree that throwing hissy fits over class changes isn't healthy or sensible, but it's not at all related to people who just take pride in their in-game accomplishments and enjoy shooting for the harder ones with a group of friends, "sitting on your bum clicking buttons" as you so eloquently put it.

    historical restructurtors.

absolutely brilliant way to start a post by being both condescending and polite...

@Sevn - ummmm, did you just make up some word there - or, is that a real thing...

Not sure how asking someone not to twist my words (inferring my not understanding a certain mindset equals calling people stupid) can be construed as condescending, and the term and spelling (historical restructurtors) was taken directly from the previous poster, you missed that?

i thought your post was well-written and entertaining @Sevn ...as superficial as it may be, while on the forums at least, that tends to be the focus for me...

lots and lots of threads and posts each day to see...needless to say i don't get a chance to read them all - the word "please" at the beginning of a post - did catch my attention...meme's and gifs seem to work well on me too...

i'm still trying to figure out if there is in fact a pronoun that can be made from the word: restructure :)

as soon as i saw "historical restructurtors" it made me think hysterical reenactors and these folks:
    historical-reenactment_o_4115599.jpg

which, in all honest - seems like a pretty cool way to spend the day...

I see I have indeed bruised a few egos by diminishing their virtual accomplishments, for that I apologize. I've no real interest in debating whether or not others find challenge and reward in the strenuous task of sitting down mastering the use of a keyboard/mouse/controllor to defeat predictable pixels on the screen, nor was it my intention for a general statement/observation about egos to be digested as a direct personal assault on any of the offended parties. (Now that geo, was polite and condescending)

I'll see my pompous *** out of the discussion now, good day and happy gaming.
