To players who whine about "XP leeches"

If you are farming XP in a public zone intended for any and all players to go there and do stuff like quests and bosses, like the feral bosmer area in Greenshade or Spellscar in Crag or any public dungeon, anyone else can come along and kill any of the mobs that they wish, EVEN the ones you think you tagged first. These places are not your private little XP farming areas. Other players have paid for the game too and probably the sub as well, and they get to be there, killing things for loot and XP just like you. [snip]

Moreover, I farm mats in Crag throughout the week. Sometimes I farm through Spellscar, especially if I get that enchanting survey that is there. Occasionally there's someone farming XP there too and if they're between me and some nodes, I will help kill the mobs the other player drew, and then go along my mat-farming way. That said, I have literally NEVER seen anyone going around following these people, "leeching" XP from them.Likewise for when I see players XP farming in other areas. So I don't think this alleged scourge of XP leeches is even a thing. I just think it's XP farmers being lazy brats having an overly entitled attitude about how they can't have a MMO all to themselves. [snip]

Wait... there are really people so egoistical they think all the mobs are their "personal property"???
    Pffftttt...
Want to have something all for your own? Go grind in an instanced solo area.
Want to grab something in the open MMO world? Deal with others also running through that world, killing mobs, farming resources, grabing chests, etc.
I mean, that IS MMO basics, right?
No need to whine about anything there...

And if someone is braindead enough to think grinding in open world questing areas is a good idea, and someone else goes around following them, and tries to leech off expees... why not either just ignore them, or port away and take your killing elsewhere.

What's there to get worked up about? :p

Like today I went to rivenspire to do some pick pocketing for the theives guild quest and at my favorite place to pick pocket some guy was killing all the npcs. Downside to playing a mmo. I didn't like it but I got over it. The grinders can do the same.

Picnic implies you brought the food yourself.
Now, where do the mobs in the game come from?
    Brought by characters?
    No?
    Or spawned by the game?
    Its the latter, right?
So, its less a "picnic" and more a "public fountain"...

I have followed zombie grinders in Alk'ir around many times, I let them pull all the mobs together. Then I run in lay down all my AoE.

    It's good fun.

No, I'm feasting on the souls of the mobs I'm killing. Stop bringing your 2-Handed stamina character that lowers the exp by just being present and expecting a sandwich. I'm already leeching off of Mojmir. Way too many people at my impromptu picnic

Oh, they're great.... was accused of leaching XP from a player a couple of weeks back. Thing was, I was in process of completing two Ogre quests in the area. One of the quests for Ogre teeth. Mind you, the said player was lashing out at anyone entering the quest area.

Umm, is leeching even possible in this game? I thought all players shared xp equally from helping kill things?
If not, I don't think it matters. I do repeatable quests for xp a lot faster and with less effort than farming enemies, in my case, with no repair costs or trash loot clogging my inventory.

A solo player earns x experience from mobs (which is already oversimplified, some are worth more or less based on difficulty). A group of two gets 1.1x. Three though? .66x. 4 is .5x, and so on and so forth.

I never got the leech argument, especially not when I've got a 70% increase from training gear and 50 from a pot, so even if there are four people I gain at more than 1x. But I'm also reasonable...

Doesn't that only apply if grouped also? If they're just happening upon each other solo does it apply?

Anymore than 2 people lowers experience whether you are grouped or not. Even if a random or friend shows up and just stands near the enemies you are killing , they lower the experience gained.

I appreciate all the experienced players that let me join in at the anchors and at the hard world bosses because I can't do them myself ... by the same token I don't actively look for experienced players to follow around and leech off of, I try to keep it respectable

    Oh well, grind more! :p
Seriously though, I try to avoid grind. I'd be a leech and do dolmens to avoid such a grind where I was concerned with xp stealing. At least there I'm guaranteed the final xp.

Lol. I did not realize the experience mechanics. On my mDK, I always rushed into farmers groups, then drop my AoEs (Volatile Armor, Engulfing Flames, Burning Talons, Eruption, Draw Essence...all dead)...lol...thought I was helping them burn them faster...lol...didn't realize I was making them get less xp...

Feel kind of like a ***...now I'll let them be, unless I need the mobs for quests.

I hate grinding with a passion. But, if I do decide to grind a new character , I prefer to get the maximum experience I can get. But if randoms show up, I'm fine, it's not the end of the world. I don't get mad, send threatening whispers, or yell at them . I just move on and go do others things instead.

    ...

OK so a guild mate and i was just talking about this. Has it always been like? I played a lot when the game first came out. I could have sworn that it didn't matter who got the killed, you both got your maxed earned exp. I quit before one Tamerial, and came back a bit before Marrowind. We were talking about spell scar and people following you around. I was like it was no big deal because they get there max EXP and my group will get mine. But if this is true then it don't matter your grouped or not if this scalled exp chart is right.
