    100% agree...

There are many people who will LIE about this sort of thing endlessly...

I, on the other hand, run a very unique build that I champion proudly:

Thats going by the meta. If you were to discover said build through testing of your own, it wouldn't.

Or it could be that for some people anything going as far as magplar/DK in heavy is a meta build.
    Magsorc in light? Meta build.
    Stamblade in medium? Meta build.

Quite frankly said: I don´t think there are meta builds in existance for any class but magsorc (and for sorc that´s more due to the class simply having no variation compared to all others).
I haven´t met two good templars using the same set of gear/skills.
Nor have i NBs, DKs or wardens.

So what do we define as a meta build realisticly?

Meta builds are builds thathave been theory crafted to perfection. There are plenty of people that read and copy thes builds, but they would never admit it.

Being a vet trials person, I follow the meta to a certain extant. I'm usually a lizard tho, cuz I can't beat that sustain.

PVE is different. I play PvE mainly to farm for PvP and in PvE the meta is usually the best way to go. There is no room for creativity in PvE. Most of the time the meta has already been proven to be the best because there is no variety in the content, so there is one single best option in PvE, so following the meta is usually always the best decision there.

The same is not true in PvP. You'll want to structure your build in PvP around your playstyle more than anything.

When it comes to pvp, i dont even know the meta, and neither do i really care, i just been doing stuff with my own builds for now, and i am planning a new "healer" build atm, will take some time as i am struggeling with the content where i get the drops for it tho.

gotta admit i havent done much pvp, and dont have an proper set for it yet tho, but thats what that healer build i am making is for :)

There are some really unique sets in the regional vendory in pvp. Check them out and research them, I am super happy with the sets they have there. Now if only ZoS could make the sets seperate per box thatd be great, because I cant count how many tank sets i have gotten with my stamden.

Made a impregnable + heavy willows path + blood spawn stam tank Sorc build for negating Zergs last night.

It worked well lol, I was tanking up to 5 people open field and 11 in close quarters combat with good heals.

Ran with double S*B with negate, stalwart guard, and shield wall. It was interesting lool

I usually research what the meta is each patch and then create my own build around what other people are building for. I've never copied and pasted a build. I don't think there is one build beats all, I think a lot of it has to do with each player's individual skill and playstyle.

Like, why would you just jump in "no matter what"? Like, even if your build is bad and doesn't work?

If you don't play tentatively at all times, I question your ability. Sorry, but I am left with no choice.

Like, why wouldn't you be open to there being superior options or setups to the one you're currently running? Why wouldn't you be open to any new possibilities on the condition that they are objectively superior to what you're running? I have no connection to my builds at all, I am only interested in numbers (which is what this game is about), and of course results.

I can't say I jump into anything "no matter what". It's just such a bad idea. So are you just going to jump into formula 1 with a broken steering wheel, simply so you can do so, "no matter what"? It's a terrible mentality, and doesn't even really make sense.

You're kind of missing the point ...

i always create my own builds, but i'll take input form what I see at others and I'd always reroll to the "op thing" rather than complain about it. fighting for how I think things should be? been there, done that, didn't work out.

so in a sense you could say I follow "the meta", but then again I never ended up playing exactly what people like to call out on forums etc (except maybe for large groups where I really like high def, or rather: high HP group builds but have to admit that I didn't get the idea myself, not at all)..

I try for myself whatever gives me problems. Thus, I learn about strengths and weaknesses and in the end I end up with works great for me, given my personal playstyle and my current campaign (typical enemies, what people I regularly group with, etc). Even with re-rolling to my personal fotm, I do not end up with "what everyone seems to be doing"

I'm doing a lot more BGs.

Only thing is, scoring in BGs and what I consider successful are not the same

For example, slotting Caltrops, WoE and any AoE/DoT with or without Skoria will drastically increase your score - however will not increase you K/D ratio necessarily. At least not anywhere near the ratio of medal reward increase

Ok, that's fine. Your wording is simply not the same style I use or are accustom to.

I understand what you are saying now, by your definition I do jump in "no matter what", because I do do my own build, but at the same time, my only goal is to make the most effective build possible, so I won't hesitate to incorporate the meta if it works better for me.

Whenever I test my build or anything in this game, I always will do so until data is sufficient.

I create my own builds, but cause I am tanking its more accepted that I can do things more different cause there really isn't a meta. That being said, its similar to other builds cause of how I build. There is wiggle room for tanks but not too much.

84% of the people on the poll are lying.

Yeah, i would say nearly 90% of the guys lying. I see similar builds on nearly 98% of people. Only few guys really make theorycrafting.

As example: There are tons of good Stamina player, who all play with seventh legion, fury and blood spawn. Most DKs play permablockbuilds. Magicka Templar who stay in heavy armor and using puncturing sweep only until there magicka is gone or they go to death. Petsorcs and some more...

    Both pretty much.

The most non-meta build I made was basically this:

"Vampires suck (literally too), so we'll make that" (Nota: it was when vampires were getting one-shotted from stealth because of camo hunter)
"No one plays argonian, so let's make that" ('twaz before the buffs)
"No one uses heavy armor, so let's use that too" (Pre-Malubeth outbreak and pre-heavy armor buffs)
"No one stacks health except blazeplars, so let's do that" (and on a non-templar too)
"No one uses Vamp drain, Guard nor Blood Altar, so we'll give those a shot".

It was 1.5~ years ago if I remember correctly.

Next patch: argonian, heavy armor and vampire buffed. Also Malubeth started bugging out and ticking for 10k+, so I mostly dropped the build later on as tank builds became more popular.

Another option: "Rainbow striker", simple concept: add in Molten armaments, Evil hunter and Rally with a 2H weapon, heavy attack packs of mobs from stealth and kill 3 dudes in a single hit (cleave passive OP). Was later stealth changed, since the 2nd mob was taking nearly full damage. It's probably doable to make this build work again, if you enjoy killing overland mobs 3 by 3 I guess...

I also tried a bunch of very classic builds and classes, nothing out of the ordinary, ended up settling with a slightly tweaked heavy armor SnB / 2h stam DK which is worthy of being called "meta"..

I pick the skills I want to use, or not use, and the rotation I'm trying for. I get some of my ideas from build discussion threads -- but frankly, there aren't all that many skills to choose among anyway.

Then I use some of the great online aids to help me decide among the gear-out options available. Some of those aids are build discussion threads.

Similarly, while I've posted builds on occasion myself, they weren't particularly creative -- again, because there aren't really all that many possibilities to choose among anyway.
