Last Second Trade Scammers....

I don't understand why people use trade face to face, when they can simply COD.

People don't like to use COD because it charges you a fee based on the amount of gold for the item you want. If the fee was cheaper, then it wouldn't be as much of an issue. But the whole point of trading face to face is to not have to deal wit hthat fee.
Far too many characters to list any more.

If someone tries to put the wrong item then you can look at their exact item and check the level/trait/etc. If they try to take an item out of the trade window or change the Gold amount offered then it cancels confirmation of the trade on both sides. I just don't get how this is happening to people. You have to be careful when you trade, that's all. There is no internal bug in the system that allows people to scam you besides you yourself not being watchful during a trade....

Anyway, sorry this happened to you OP. Hopefully things get resolved.

I got trade scammed out of a psijic ambrosia recipe when the scammer used modded controller to remove gold and accept near simultaneously in less than a second...

@ZOS_GinaBruno , Suport Ticket Number 170904-002719. Since I cannot name people in the forums I would like to request that something is done about this. Scamming is against the EULA and destroys game experience.

Please note I take everything i said in my report very seriously, and intend to do what i stated if this is not resolved.

Side note, Anyone else been a victim of last second removal of item from scamming? Post it here lets get this fixed and these people removed from the game.

I hope something is done about this. A second confirmation should be in game to secure items so this doesn't happen. The fact that this isn't in game already is ridiculous to be honest. I've had a few friends this has happened to in game and the excuse of "oh you should watch what your doing better" is completely stupid. People even use third party programs that pull the item from the trade within a second. Nice to see nothing has been done about it...

I do hope you get a response from them and a favorable one at that.

What you suggest is what needs to happen. Items/gold are put in to trade, everyone clicks trade and then once this happens nothing can be changed and a 2nd pop up asking to complete trade. If anyone clicks no then the whole trade is canceled.

On PC player to player trading is very risky because of the use of addons that are built to trade scam (or so I have read) however I play on console so I at least don't have to worry about an addon helping someone scam me!

So... does this bypass the submit lock or does the switch happen and THEN the victim hits submit?

Cause I feel like you wait for the scammer to submit then just wait like 5-10 seconds, if you see/hear the trade window change, you just nope the *** out of there.

and you know the scammers are non sub players how? i dont think your demand is something eso need to worry about.

id still like to see a video of this happening. im still somewhat sceptical that most if not all of these cases are user error.

Most people who scam do not put out money for anything, so ya i am fairly certain they are not crown buyers and most likely are not subbed.

Whatever they are using it is so ungodly fast that I still saw the item when i accepted it, then they give you the same bullsht line that it is a bug and the item must have disappeared.

    How can this be done?

Let's use the skooma bubbler design as an example.

When the design first came out the price was extremely high.

Person a is selling the design
Person b says they will purchase design through cod for high price
    Person a sends the cod
Person b decides to just let it sit there
Person a finally gets the cod return with their item

Khajiit skooma bubbler design price has dropped a lot since the amount of time person held onto the cod

Person a loses out on money they could have made.

That's more griefing than scamming. Person "b" gets no gold from this, but is just being an a******.

Anyway, like others have mentioned, after both parties have hit "submit" there should be a second confirmation pop-up, during which all items are locked and displayed for you and can not be changed. All you can do is hit "agree" or "cancel trade". If either party hits "cancel" the whole thing is aborted.

I forgot which game it was but there was one earlier where if you accepted a trade offer it'll lock that trade in for about 5s and you can't exit the trade window or replace it with another item or modify it in anyway unless the other person accepts as well or exits trade after the 5s lock in.

wait, scammer submits before victim and still can remove gold? how is this possible?

Yeah. You should ALWAYS have the person you're trading with submit first...Here's what I think is really happening (bolded)

Both players have gold and items in window
    - Gold scammer hits submit (then quickly REMOVES gold and clicks submit AGAIN)
    - Victim hits submit (WITHOUT verifying items/gold)
    - Trade complete
    - Scammer now has both item and gold

If this is not working, then it's a bug and should be looked at.

Since I don't trade via the in-game trade system, I really can't verify that. All my trades/sales are done through a guild store.

It doesn't matter if the scam is user error or not, stop trying to blame the victim.

The point is some people are deliberately going out to scam unsuspecting people. Time and time again we see it here on the forums so it is still happening.

The 2nd or finalise accept trade is a perfect way to finally stop the scammers who swap out their trade last minute.

    This should be a priority.

I got trade scammed out of a psijic ambrosia recipe when the scammer used modded controller to remove gold and accept near simultaneously in less than a second...

I had the exact same thing happen to me but lost the Mythic Aetherial Ambrosia recipe which I was had been selling on the guild store for 400,000 gold. I reported the loss and player to ZOS and as far as I know nothing happened, I definitely didn't get my recipe back. I should have just left it in the guild store but making a fast buck got the better of me.

Sadly there will always be losers looking to exploit others. I find it is even more prevalent online than in rl. Even through COD I see it. There was the whole citrine/alloy scam where they look so alike and people fell for it paying many thousands for a citrine!

It's always, to me, buyer beware. I prefer working through the traders instead and use TTC to find decent pricing. Typically I can get pricing just as good or better than any zone chat trader is asking. If there is a person in zone offering an item up at mindblowing pricing- that screams of scam to me. It does something to people psychologically. People become excited to get an unbelievable price, fearful they will lose out to someone else- and in their rushing to get a good deal, can end up making a costly mistake.

Welcome to life in the big city. People suck, the only reason society exists is because the bad people are as busy trying to screw each other over as they are the good folk.

The problem with this game is you can't have the thieves hand cut off so everyone knows not to deal with the directly.

Even in modern times, there are so many scammers that in commercial deals an escrow agent is used. If the transaction is a purchase, the buyer must confirm the goods before the agent releases the money. For consumers, you can just tell Amazon they screwed you over.

To whomever mentioned c.o.d. with prices changing, that's why IRL a party can typically rescind an offer at any time prior to acceptance by the other party. For game purposes, just add a field indicating the max time before the offer expires. Or just set a minimum time after which the offer can be rescinded at will.

Funny story short... i got scamed out of an atunable crafting teable, i mesage the guy saying that i did not care because i had a little trick that was giving me 3 mil per day (bluff) and if he did not belived me i would show him how much gold i had. It worked like a charm, right after that msg he invited me to a group and i showed him 15mil on a trade... right after that he was in it deep, so i told him he needed to do this quest and so and so and he did. Then i said if you want to know the final step he had to give me my stuff back (for trust purposes)and he did! And then i left. Lol i was going to to ask him for gold just to teach him a lesson but then that would put me at his level, No thanks!

And ofcourse the rage mesages after where just soooo mmmmmm lol amazing...
