    Customize Your Item Traits

The Clockwork City DLC game pack and Update 16 also introduce the all-new Transmutation system, allowing you to change the traits on your gear, including weapons and armors.

In order to Transmute an item, you must locate a Transmutation station and have the item trait researched in your crafting Skill Line. This means if you'd like to add the Sharpened trait to your dagger, you must first ensure you have the ability to craft daggers with that trait. You'll be able to find a Transmutation station in the heart of the Brass Fortress within the Clockwork City or acquire one for your home from a certain Master Writ merchant.

In addition to the crafting skill requirement, Transmutation requires a special new resource called Transmutation Crystals that you'll need to collect and save. You'll be able to earn Transmutation Crystals by completing veteran level content (such as Veteran Mode Dungeons or Trials).

We're very excited to introduce this new crafting system, so keep an eye out for more information on Transmutation in the future!

It sounds as if these stones will be bound on pickup, which will give a nice little income boost to crafters.

Sounds great, thanks for listening ZOS!

ok question here. Lets say your buddy has BOUND spinners fire staff that has crap trait. and you are the master crafter. how are you going to change his weapon's trait?

Based on what I am reading .. people can only re-trait their own weapons if only "they" have the traits researched. you cannot re-trait someone's bound armor/weapons.

so crafters making money on this sounds like not going to happen. unless I am missing something.

Unless these shards can turn a different piece of gear into that necklace, I'm still looking at a potentially infinite number of runs to maybe get that necklace.
Disregarding traits, It's very unlikely that neither you or your group don't get a single drop of any item you are looking after a rather low amount of runs. In that sense both a tokens system and retraiting serves to the same purpose.

ZOS needs to introduce an attunement shard to allow you to attune an item to your account, and in doing so allows you to trade it to another player in order for them to improve it/retrait it for you. This would be "crafter love".

So instead of grinding for your perfect weapon you will be first grinding for the weapon you want then grinding for the material you need to make it perfect and then you can only use it if you have already invested a good deal of time into crafting.
Seems to me just changing one grind into another.

Not that I mind the change I just think this isn't the relief from grinding that many think it will be. It will simply be a different grind.

Could bring some gold to crafting though. There should be a market for bind on equip items of course depending on how many of the new crystals will be needed.

Well, nice for mixmaxers, or really -anyone- who wants to get that perfect trait on that perfect item. Though it will likely be a crapshoot still. Like a random re-rolling of traits.

I'd -get- these if I played vet content on the regular anymore but I stopped since morrowind, and likely a bunch of others have to. So if the Sustain buggery isn't delt with in the incoming patch I dont see this bringing me back. Not to mention the pointless class nerfs, like nerfing templars major mending for no reason other than to sell Morrowind copies.

Lessening the grind isn't enough if I hate what's there on a basic level.

Why would you farm vet trials/dungeons for tokens that you can use on crafted gear, that you can already craft in any trait you want without tokens...?

I didn't read all the replies...how is this handling items that have been bound since they were equipped...Can you change that for somebody, or will they have to go find the item again.

Any system is better than leaving the RNG as it is now, but still going to be frustrating if people have to go hunt for the item again.

I wonder if these crystals will be tied to the pledge reward or if they will be in the boss loot table, because then you could just run stuff like vCoA1 or vFG1 again and again to farm them. Also will traits/motifs researched have an effect on the drop %(assuming they drop from the boss) similar to master writs?

BOE from overland and public dungeons are ok to do, hmm, but BOP from dungeons and trials would require the re-traiter to be in the same group in that dungeon as the one who gets the drop, to be able to re-trait it

    makes sense!!

    Why?

You bought weapons when you needed them.

I've spent millions on overland gear, but I couldn't care less. I needed my Necro and my Spinners at the time, so I bought them. There was no re-trait system back then. If you need any overland gear before the end of the year, you'll likewise need to buy them.

It would be great if re-traiting required normal mats too.

Mats are almost worthless in the game right now. ZOS needs to drive demand up again.

Transmutation station - Will it be DLC only or it will be added to base game as well ?
Transmutation Crystals - again - only for completing DLC vet content or rather all vet content in base game ?

Well.. I just hope those Transmutation Crystals will be also obtainable via guild traders... :/
I would rather farm some gold and buy it... same as style materials for different rare motives...

And again - idea of re-traiting gear is good - but the execution is done in (probably) the worst possible way... more items to grind, more banks space to be taken... ehh... :| I guess... "work as intended"....
Oh yes.. and I am willing to bet that those Transmutation Crystals will also be available in crown store....

Oh great.. this means I have to be nice to people again so we can pretend to get along in a group and do group things in order to get these crystals. What a sham.. Zen/dev is continuously pushing us lonewolves into team players. ha ha

    Groupfinder:
The worst part is when it finally puts you in a group, your healer turns into a werewolf, your tank has 14k HP and the dps is heavy armor, using a restro staff and a two handed sword on the backbar. Then comes the 15 minute penalty before the cycle starts anew.

    Rulz of Morrowind:
    • The first rule of Morrowind is: You do not talk about Morrowind.
    • The second rule of Morrowind is: You do not talk about Morrowind.
    • Third rule of Morrowind: Someone yells NDA stuff, uploads images, streams, the game is over.
    • Fourth rule: only invited players can test.
    • Fifth rule: one invite at a time, fellas.
    • Sixth rule: crying or bashing on pts.
    • Seventh rule: NDA will go on as long as they have to.
    • And the eighth and final rule: If this is your first invite at Morrowind, you have to play.

If the stones are BoP, I don't see how this will help crafters. Not that I hate being able to fix my stuff, but a lot of what people will want changed is bound gear, which means a crafter won't be able to help them out. This will push more people to craft their own gear to fix their own gear basically. It will also tank the market on selling any dropped gear (which might be what they want to do) because you won't think "oo, I found this infused necro staff, and I don't use it, I can sell it" - now everyone that's ever found any trated staff can just fix it and won't need to buy that stuff and if the stones are bound, then you won't be selling them either.

I know it's not quite, that's why I said pretty much, and serves the same purpose, as opposed to exactly the same.

Just in case you don't get it, both serves to greatly decrease grind time, while one also revalues crafters and adds a highly priced commodity, and the other is just a huge ui mess that would probably demand a lot more resources to develop.
