A Guild I belong to just raised is membership cost to 300K in sales or a 10K membership fee per week.

What do forum members think of Guild membership fees.
Would you or Do you belong the a Guild that has membership fees?

Seriously though, I'd never join a guild that charges more than 5k in weekly fees. The Guild trade is a terrible, awful system that needs to be done away with. I'd rather not be in one than pay those extortionate rates.

Guilds have the right to do what they want and that should be respected. If they want you to have to pay for membership then that's up to them.

What's not okay is when people try to pull one over their loyal members and have them pay more. How comes 5k per member isn't enough for a trader in the eyes of some?

This idea should definitely be challenged before people see it as acceptable. If enough people refuse to pay such a price then GMs will certainly have to reconsider their choice or face not having a loyal membership base.

While I am not agreeing (or disagreeing) with raising dues in this situation, I am guessing it's because of the fact that as more and more gold gets in the hands of the players, the bids for the top trader spots get higher and higher, and the guilds operating cost increases because of it.

I run a trading guild and from what I've experienced (both past and present, at least on PS4 EU) the prices for most if not all traders have actually been decreasing. I don't know of any guilds on my console and server that have increased their requirement to 10k per week so maybe we've been lucky, but otherwise there aren't many reasons to justify a price hike like what some guilds have been doing.

Bidding on a guild trader, especially in a high traffic location, requires a truckload of money, and you can't see other people's bids, so there's really nothing wrong in asking for a fee or minimum sales as guildmasters usually have to go higher on the bid or risk to lose the stand for that week, which leads to all kind of problems, as you'll most likely get a bad location, and sell less stuff for that week, therefore get less founds for the next week's bid.

You want the best location, gotta pay them monies

None of my guilds charge fees or require minimum sales. None of my guilds have prime trading spots, or some weeks any spot at all. And I'm pretty sure the GMs and officers are all dropping huge amounts of money to keep things running as well as they do.

This whole trade system blows. Guilds have to worry about getting and keeping a trader, and players have to spend game time making sure they have enough sales, and bouncing around the damn map shopping. Or you can just never sell or buy anything, that's a terrible option.

I'm sure it's working out great for somebody somewhere, but for many if not most of us it just constantly low-key sucks.

    Oh wow, that's hefty.
I have one guild that asks for a 5k donation if you can't make the 75k sales each week, and I don't mind paying that 5k at all to belong in a friendly guild with a Rawl trader.

I am in a guild on EU that only requires a 1k donation if you can't make the 25k sales, which I am also happy to pay.
I think that is reasonable. I don't really think 10k is.

My trading guild requires either 30k sales per week or 10k donations... I guess thats fair enough considering that they pay a lot of gold to buy a merchant.
Sadly, consoles dont have addons that track sales so I guess donations are the only way to keep the guild active.

Edit: 300k minimun sales sounds a bit too much I think. XD On PC/EU you rarely see more than 30-40k requirements even in Craglorn/Rawl'Kha guilds.

I'm in three trading guilds. I use the trader regularly in one of those and only very occasionally in the other two.

I donate to all three every week. I like the fact that they're there if I need them so I help out to make sure they're worth using when I want to.

If you fill even one trader it's not really a hardship. I'm never out of pocket because of fees; I always sell more than enough to cover them.

I've actually paid more in fees and it was worth it for the high traffic trader. If I put my mind to it, I could make a really tidy profit each week in sales. I'm no longer with that guild and it certainly has impacted my sales. However it is a bit of a relief for me since those fees aren't looming over my head each week.

With that said, I usually do contribute money each week towards my other trading guilds, especially if they bid on a trader.

Guild can do as they wish so long as their members feel they are getting value. Trader location makes a big difference in guild sales so every week the members of the guild have to contribute in either a sales or donation - makes sense. If you don't care about where your guild trader is there are smaller trade guilds that do not have quotas or fees - you can choose and they can choose so the system works fine as it is right now.

Fee for maybe higher guild ranks, trader access not-included = sure.

It would be better if there were a market board similar to Final Fantasy XIV's; but rather than individuals creating their own sellers, guild leaders would have a custom-made merchant who travels a chosen region for a week, peddling your wares.

They could take a small chunk of your profits; or maybe just charge you 5k per run.

Hell, what if after raking in 100k that way; you get an achievement that rewards you some cool house item?

Right now I am in a guild which has no fees, but depending on what I am after I wouldn't be against fees.

The fees are often a drop in the ocean for a good trader, it's normally only small time and more casual sellers which get stung by them and there are other guild alternatives which would suit them better in most cases.

Find the guild that works for you at the costs you want and play there.

I was in 3 trader guilds - now 1. they all requested a fee of 2k per week. If you didn't pay - they didn't kick you.

The only kicking requirement was online time which was 2 wks.

I donate(d) irregularly to weekly auctions. One of my guild was running a master writ raffle (donate writs and 1=1 ticket) and they were able to collect all the crafting tables for all the sets.

I left 2 of the guilds because I am not the type to farm/sell lots of stuff. I stay with the one that has all the sets and it's so much easier as a crafter.

TL:DR guild fees shouldn't be a requirement, just a request - BUT - if it is a requirement you should be ok with paying it or leave the guild.

Guild fees should not be a requirement, but minimum sales definitely are.

Granted, 300k across all the board sounds a bit exaggerate, most guild have sales ranks, ranging from 15k to 500k, but, in my opinion, having a minimum sales requirement OR guild fees is a need.

There are a lot of people that join guilds then go dark or don't dell anything, leaving that 1 item for 1mil that will never sell. Trade guilds needs active traders that can bring money to the guild.

As I said, every week you (the guild master) have to bid for the guild trader you want, and other people's bids are not visible, so you need to bid as high as you can. Losing a trader in a good spot means you're left with very few choices for that week in case it fails, and you'll know if you lost the bid only after it's concluded and you have to go for what's left.

It's not fair to ask the guildmaster to put his/her own money for it.

I'm currently in 2 trading guilds, one asks for a 2k weekly fee (which I'm happy to pay(, the other for at least 15k weekly sales. To my mind they are both acceptable, as a trader in a decent location costs good money.

OK first off I have to say, I run a trading guild that doesn't charge anything, we run a raffle (another contentious issue on the forum this week) to raise money to pay for a trader.

But people complaining, I think you completely fail to understand that a trading kiosk can cost up to (and sometimes more than) 10 million gold a week - where exactly do you think that money to pay for it is going to come from? You enjoy your sales in a top trading spot but someone, somewhere, has to stump up money for you to do that.

Secondly I have to say, I run a trading guild that doesn't charge anything. We do not have a top spot in Rawl, Mournhold, Wayrest, Elden Root, or Craglorn. You want a better trading kiosk than that, someone has to pay for it, and it ought to be the people making money from it - ie. the members.

If those guild traders cost that much, I can understand why they do that.
And if you can get 300K sales a week, than having to pay 10K for slower weeks doesn't sound that bad.

However, my trades are limited to crafting materials, and gathering them is a boring task for me. So I'd rather join a guild without fees.

I am in 3 Trading Guilds.
Minimum requirements: 5,000g per week sales or 5,000g purchase of raffles tickets per week. My sales: 6,000g+ per week.
Minimum requirements: no min sales per week and raffle tickets are optional. My sales: 2,000g+ per week.
Minimum requirements: of 10,000g per week sales or 10,000g purchase of raffle tickets per week. My sales: 40,000g+ per week.

My advice join multiple Trading Guilds and if you sell more than your dues cost, stay with them. If you do not sell enough to cover your dues, LEAVE.

Discontent people are always the most vociferous. Most people are fine with this or the guilds would not exist and have such high membership. There are choices for everyone's needs and anyone can join the trading guilds or not. It's simple. Don't like it...find another guild.
