Item Set Suggestions

I noticed that there is no nifty "suggestion box" for items and apparel, so I'll just throw something out there.

I generally like the design of itemization, traits, crafting research, monster sets, etc. in ESO - but it can always get better.

My three chief concerns (or rather; areas in which I dream of improvement) are:
  1. Support for Hybrid Builds - I know that working in simple Stamina or Magicka archetypes is easier (both from development and player perspective), but the Elder Scrolls have always prided themselves in allowing for diverse characters (and I'm not saying ESO hasn't done well. The fact that 80% of skills aren't even class limited is awesome), but in ESO you generally fall into the Dualwield/Twohand and stamina vs. Destruction Staff and magicka. Right now the only hybrid-oriented set is Pelinal's Aptitude, but that can't support hybrid builds on its own.
  2. Crafting redundacy - As I've already mentioned; I do like the crafting system. But while sets like Hunding's Rage, Night Mother's Gaze, and Julianos see some use from players who still haven't found their Divines Two-Fanged Serpent, there's essentially no use for most high-end sets. I realize that, in a game such as ESO, you want people to find the best gear from actually competing with/against other players (PVE: Vet. Dungeons and Trials, PVP: Tel Var stone/AP reward sets), but in a game where it takes months (not continuously playing months, but still) to finish researching all traits (probably cost ya quite a bit of gold too), I feel as though there should be more useful sets. The 9-trait
    • Twice-Born Star - Honestly don't know if this is a contender after the Mundus Stone buff in Horns of the Reach. It definitely used to be waaay-outclassed by most popular sets.
    • Morkuldin's Rage - This set (while a cool design) is mostly used as a "let me just try some wild build!" and it never works...
    • Eternal Hunt - This set seems like it gets a little use in kiting PVP builds, but otherwise not much.
    • Pelinal's Aptitude - As discussed above; hybrid builds are not viable, thus this set is not viable.
    • Armor Master - Probably the shining star of high end crafting! It's easily a contender for best tank set in game.
So my suggestion? Either 1: Add more truly useful sets (not saying they have to surpass looted gear, but at least they should be serious contenders for some builds), or perhaps... Jewelry crafting? In my (not-incredibly-humble) opinion the downfall of crafting is very much the fact that jewelry slots cannot help fill set bonuses for crafted items, If you want Hunding's Rage you're restricted to body/weapon slots, and it's quite simply impossible to have a full gear-up of crafted items.
  3. Set diversity - This is generally pretty good, but I would like to see more unorthodox sets and combinations. Right now everything falls into Head/shoulder-Monster, 5piece general set, Single-item Maelstrom/Master weapons, or 3piece jewelry oriented sets. I'd like to see something to shake it up a bit, like 2- or 3piece sets that don't use head/shoulder slots. Or maybe just one of them. Like a Chest/head monster set. Just a thought.

No hate, lots of love, lots of critisism and alternate suggestions please.
I think it is central to ESO's well-being to critique the developers when they change the game (or fail to change something).
But the negativity can be exhausting, so I vow to post 50/50 negativity and appreciation.

There was a time when TBS was BiS for ALL types of DPS builds, regardless of class and damage type. And I am glad we moved away from such things to more diversity.

This should be true. Given how much of a pain it is to craft this set, but the actual set is... eh. You're probably better off with Alessia's Bulwark. Which should indicate just how underwhelming this set really is.

Set effects I would love to see:
    • A set that causes Light Armor to count as medium pieces for the stealth passives).
    • Sets that modify specific classes, or class skill lines. For example, an ability that turns blur into a click heal. Or an ability that extends the duration of your Shadow abilities based on the number of Assassination abilities you have slotted.
    • Sets that modify elemental damage. For example, a set that converts outgoing fire damage into frost damage. Possibly class specific, so your Warden may be altered to cast lightning, or your DK might be altered to cast frost. At least then, there'd be a reason to use the Ysgramor's Derp set.

Probably not gonna happen but would but would be sick as F. The first thing I imagined was a DKs flame breath turn into a frost breath. Have sets for different elements/classes and change it so you can get more out of the different types of damage, we could all be the cool frost mages we wanted to be, or see something with way more lighting in different styles of what we have seen before. Or poisons or disease. Would be cool.

Its something I thought of when doing Bloodroot forge and fighting the Flame dude with all the stone atronachs. We need more cool animations like that for other elements. FIRE IS OVERUSED!

Yes, note that bis for crafted set is just one set unless class differences. its not hard to get some to craft an 9 trait armor set.
So its no reason to go for the second best. Dropped sets is a bit different, if one set drop in HoF and the other in wayrest sewer and the HoF set does 1% more, who set do you aim for :)
If you farmed motifs and stuff while leveling you will have enough gold to get bis level gear at cp160, no issue with an stamina build as leather is cheap :) Acast has julianos in almost all his magic builds.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

All the more reasoning behind my arguments I guess.

Of course; I am not saying crafted gear should out-perform dropped gear, but I feel like ESO needs more "equality" in gear. Both when it comes to drops and crafts.

IT helped alot when Burning Spellweave was nerfed (so that it wasn't BiS for every magicka DD), and I want that to happen more.

Correct me if I'm wrong but right now (for mag, anyway) the BiS are
    • Dragonknights - Burning Spellweave or Silks of the Sun
    • Nightblade - Necropotence (possibly Scathing Mage?)
    • Sorcerer - Necropotence
    • Templar - Honestly I don't know.

Def. better than Burning Spellweave, Burning Spellweave, Burning Spellweave, Burning Spellweave. But, while I realize many sets are meant to be 'niche', I'd like to see a greater variety.

The dream scenario for me would be if two sets (one crafted, one looted?) could manage the same DPS, possibly depending on the different skills used.
