Why are gold weapons important?

I hear a lot of people stressing how much it is important to have your weapons in gold? I have never had a gold gear or weapon, but planning to upgrade one.

Can someone explain does Weapon Damage do? I am running DW MagSorc, weapons in purple. What will happen if I gold them out? Will the spell damage be higher or is golding out weapons only important for Stamina users as it increases Weapon damage?

I also know that it increases the trait power, but anything else happens?

The weapon damage of the weapon increases by quite a bit, and if you are weaving your attacks like you should be that's a large dps increase. Also increases the number on your trait so more spell pen if you have sharpened and so on.

What will happen if you gold out weapons? You will be able to solo vMoL and vHoF... at the same time... naked... on a MagDen...

Making your weapons gold on a Magica based character like you have, will increase not only your weapon damage, but your spell damage too. Its quite a lot. So yes, I would gold out your weapons before anything else gets upgraded.

Not only does it increase your Traits, but its a bit over 100 spell/weapon power difference between Purple and Gold weapons, does a big deal more of extra damage.

If you gold two daggers (from purple), your weapon damage goes up roughly 10%. And it's not just light and heavy attacks which are affected. Many skills scale with weapon damage.

Increasing the quality of your weapons increases your base damage, both spell and weapon damage. If you have no buffs, no passives, no gear... nothing but your weapon, your spell and weapon damage should be equal, and IIRC will be equal with your weapons tooltip damage, though that gets a little more complicated with DW. So if you were naked with no skills, passives or anything to increase you spell/weapon damage and had equipped a gold staff, both your weapon and spell damage would be 1335.

100 spell damage is for a 1H weapon. 2H, as one would expect, is increased by slightly more than 200 SD/WD when upgraded to gold from purple.

As useful and important as it is, I would exercise one slight bit of restraint. A caveat: Make sure you either have an abundance of materials to gold out gear, or make sure you really REALLY like your weapons. No sense in golding something you later find isn't as effective as you thought, or doesn't actually match your playstyle.

This is where hoarding is handy. Just roll around in those gold materials. Roll in them. Feel them upon your body. And then upgrade your gear with them, because there's so many.

*whispers* hooooarding... it's not elder scrolls without hoooooarding.

This is true. I think most of us that have been playing a while have a few regrets of weapons/gear that we've golded out.

They increase your spell/weapon damage more than upgrading your armor. Not by much, probably you gain ~1.5% DPS from purple to gold. Irrelevant unless you are going for score. So upgrading gear past purple is not a priority unless you have stacks of tempers and/or millions of gold. It's far more important upgrading your horse, bank and backpack unless you have already done that.

More damage means stuff dies more quickly. The higher the group DPS, the faster you can clear content. Which is very important for HM trials. The more competent the DPS, the less deaths, which in return puts less strain on the group....you see where this is going? More DPS is just better in every way. For both PvE and PvP. I do NOT recommend golding just 'any ol weapon.' Make sure you have the correct gear (the best you can afford), and that it's actually useful in a competitive environment. Then, you can spend all your gold on tempers :D

That "Damage" value on your weapon is not only Weapon Damage . It is both Spell and Weapon Damage . Upgrading your weapon increases your damage with weaves , skills and also healing . For example , Dual Wield passive says "increases Weapon Damage of your off-hand weapon's damage ." This should make things clear .

Yes. It increases spell damage. So it increases damage of all your skills and even non % based or static number healing (such as crit surge or clan fear).

It will also improve the trait potency. It will give sharpened more penetration, precise more cirt, nirnhoned even more spell damage. Not sure on infused as patch isn't live on Xbox, but it will either reduce enchant cooldown, increase it's potency or maybe even both. Same with everything else like powered and defending etc.

Furthermore, it will slightly increase armor bonuses. Improving your dual wield will mean any max magica bonus you have for instance will go up slightly. If you gold everything, the set is at it's maximum. But just Golding weapons and leaving rest purple puts it slightly in between. Not much, but it is a small added benefit.

I don't always gold my backbar weapon for PvP as i, like most other I would imagine, use it as buff bar so spend little time on it.

In short, gold your weapons. I gold them and perfect traits monster sets. I have a few gold armor sets like vo, Julianos, hundings in divines for Pve. I never bother with PvP though as I change builds a lot.

I don't always use gold armor glyphs unless they are tri stat to be honest. Weapons and jewellery I do though. Even overwriting purple jewellery that comes with recovery. I updgrade it with a gold enchant. Keep in mind, any dropped armor piece will had it's glyph improved as you improve the armor itself. The max health will be blue enchant equivalent when you get the armor piece, but upgrading the armor to gold means it now has a gold enchant. Crafted gear does not follow this rule though.

no, your weapon damage will be.
You are wasting using DW on a magsorc imo.
Only staff damage is based off of spell dam, so mking your staff gold will increase your spell dam.

gold weapons vs purple weapons = huge difference in damage. Its important af to have gold weapons, much more important than gold armor.
