It was reported shouts of "MO MONEY! MO MONEY!" could be heard coming from ZOS HQ just before the release of this latest DLC. Authorities sent to investigate and all reports on the chanting that continues to bother local residents have disappeared. More will be said as new information becomes available....

Thieves Troves seem to give the most consistent results as far as I can tell. I got 3 pieces of Redoran and Hlaalu style material pieces out of 2 troves. But good luck finding those in the first place. And the actual motifs still seem impossible to find.

This is the least fun I've had in the game so far, and that's quite a feat. Competitive solo PvE with atrocious reward chance sucks.

Personally rare is good. Everyone should have everything.

It will die down in a few weeks, it's only manic as people are despirate for the motifs NOW (and willing to pay) the farmers are just catering to demand. If people didn't make a market for the stuff it wouldn't be like this.

Anyway I think rare is good, makes it exclusive and thus mean something.

Dont get me wrong, I dont want it to be common.
I just think that they way were supposed to farm is not really thought-out.

Frankly I wouldn't even care if they were common. Most people run around in costumes anyway, so it's not like you look at someone and think "wow, he has all this rare stuff". For actual gameplay cosmetic stuff is entirely inconsequential anyway, and making it rare only serves to entice people to buy it from the crown store instead.

That said, I'm absolutely fine with things being rare, as long as working towards it is still fun.
This means a) the activity itself is enjoyable, and b), you make continuous progress and don't feel like you're wasting your time.

While I generally like the justice system, having people compete over limited resources is always a source of grief and annoyance instead of fun. We have precedence where it was done better, with the Abah's Watch motif. That style material is only available through pickpocketing as well, but in that case there is less competition because you can steal from any guard in Tamriel (I actually got more polished shillings than new Great House style materials during my runs so far).

Likewise, there is no continuous progress. There are 42 new motif pages, and they are rare as can be. You can steal/pickpocket for hours without making any progress to completing the motif, and currently even finding a chance for a drop (i.e. a non-empty NPC, a safebox or thieves trove) can be challenging.
This was done better with other rare motifs, such as Ebony, where you can get at least a few crafting vouchers per day with some effort, or Glass when it was first released. Silken Ring and Mazzatun are also rare because they are hard to get, but you still feel like you get something by completing the dungeon. Long dry spells were also the worst thing about Buoyant Armiger, but there you at least had the chance to get other valuable set pieces (I sold several War Maiden weapons looking for that motif), so it didn't feel like you were wasting your time. And of course you were only looking for 14 pages instead of 42.

The hunt for the new motifs combines the worst aspects. They are rare, searching isn't fun because you are struggling against other players, you can play endlessly without making any progress, and secondary rewards are slim to none. Even if they wanted to keep these motifs rare, there were a dozen better ways to do it.
