I use HyperX Cloud II, which are not exactly cheap, but audio quality is superb and background noise is really removed. Mic works great. Some people were scared 7.1 would not work with PS4. It does perfectly.

Again, I am not a hardcore player anymore, but I can tell the difference when I use them.

I just got a HyperX Cloud Stinger and it sounds surprisingly good for a 50 dollar headphone. It was definitely an improvement over my 8 years old TB x41, i just hope it lasts a lot too.

Honestly, that's about the WORST way I could possibly think of to play any game.

It's 2017, we have headsets with independent controls for all volume needs.

iv done it for years. and iv used my logitech with all the audio coming through it. for gaming only, second way is best. the speakers in the logitech headset work quite well. for voice+gaming, the first way works far better. i've never had to ask anyone to repeat something.

There is just absolutely no need for all of that with the sets that are out now. You're basically talking about the same setup that's been used since, what, 2000? Probably before that honestly?

    It's either headphones or silence.

I use Audio-technica AD700s because they are extremely light and don't compress to hard on my ears. I can wear them all day without my ears feeling sore. I have a separate mic I can pull out when needed. I am not willing to sacrifice sound for a mic that I wouldn't use much anyway since I usually game solo.
