You become a vampire through a disease. You get infected. You become undead, that is, you are no loner living.

How on Tamriel do you expect this condition not to affect the way you look?
You asked for a bite. You now have a new skill tree but you look pale and horrible. Now live with it.
I brought the light up to my face and smiled. He was surprised, even stunned by the pallor of my flesh, the dark hunger in my ageless eyes, and the teeth. Oh, yes, I think the teeth definitely surprised the man who could not afford to be surprised.

"I haven't fed in seventy-two hours," I explained, as I fell on him. He did not land the first blow or the last.

To anyone who says vampires can't conceal their identity. There are dozens of accounts of vampires in the elder scrolls series who look normal as long as they are well fed. These are some links on the subject, I really do hope this settles the dispute :)

This is the journal of a vampire who misled his prey, only once he hadn't fed in the last 3 days was his victim able to recognise the vampires condition :).

Skins hide other cosmetic changes you've made to your character also it would be one of those "too-lazy-to-fix-the-issue-so-find-a-way-around fixes". And what if I don't want to use a skin, what if I actually want to look like a vampire? And not that sorry excuse for a face vampires have going on right now, but like a proper vampire :). That's why a change is justified!

Now what to do about this. Here are some of my suggestions:
    - Skin: Don't make a vampire's skin look purple, I mean why, why would you do that!!!??? Make it look whiter, make vampires pale not purple!

    - Eyes: At the moment vampires look like they simply need a good nights sleep. However their bloodshot eyes look terrible and are in no way a characteristic trait of vampires. Make their eyes glow, like in skyrim! In Bram stoker's Dracula, vampires also had glowing eyes, so you'd be very lore-friendly also.

    - Fangs: *cought* FETISH *cough, cough* No, but seriously, fangs, very subtle fangs, have the potential to look awesome on vampires (similar to the fangs orcs have in the game, protruding from the upper lip though).

    - Day and night: Make vampires look different based on the time of day. When the sun shines they look sickly, perhaps even have pained expression on their forehead. But with the approach of night, they look more powerful, burning eyes, blood red lips, extended fangs!!! (Not necessary but cool ;) ).

And finally the most important change:

    - Stages : Currently advancing vampirism changes makes your character go from looking ugly to looking hideous. Here's what I would find absolutely amazing!
    1) Stage 1 makes the vampire look fairly attractive, maybe even more so than he/she would be without vampirism red lips and slightly paler skin are all you notice.
    2) Stage 2 maybe add a subtle change to the vampires eyes at this point. They glow faintly, like glowing embers!
    3) Stage 3 vampirism becomes apparent. Hungry look on characters face, fangs are faintly visible.
    4) A biest, this does no longer look pretty. The characters features are contorted, bloodied fangs bared at his enemies, burning eyes.

so let me talk to you about something. These "suggestions" require a FULL overhaul of vampirism in ESO. Thats a lot of development time, and money. Lets say ZOS agrees to all of this. Lets say they dedicate that time next patch. cool. Now what about Werewolves? Are they left in the cold?

now its time for the party foul: essentially what these threads are always about, is that Vampires are more popular than even a given race (as any race can be one). There was literally a gold rush of Vamps in Morrowind due to the sustain scare. And the truth is: you all want the benefits of Vampirism, but none of the negatives. thats what it comes down to. you want to look completely normal but have the undeath, mag/stam regen, faster sneak etc.

There is a price to pay for everything in this world. and thats something you kids dont understand.

EDIT: MY character looks like a total bad[snip] in Vamp stage 4. I also noticed these threads are always with female characters.. .

Where does everyone get this notion that 10% extra regen and the undeath passive (which are nice, don't get me wrong) must be tied to your character looking *** (and I think most people agree with me on this).
There's a price to pay for everything in this world...sounds like a line from Doctor Strange. I'm sorry but you've been watching too much cheap anime or something.
Besides it's a video game for goodness sake, we already pay for eso plus, why do I need to "pay" for my 10% extra regen? Really there is reason for this "price for everything" philosophy to be implemented into an MMO, people come here to relax and enjoy themselves and not to pay for being a vampire!

BESIDES: vampires already take a ton more flame damage, which makes them completely unviable in a bunch of scenarios!

It's the other way around. The game does not force you to be a vampire. You know the pro and cons. By the way, the look of a vampire is not objectively bad. There are people that like the way they look.

I am not because I am coherent with the way I play my Templar. For the very same reason I did not do anything with the Dark Brotherhood (I do not agree with the initiation). For the very same reason I saved Velaste: I do prefer saving her to 2 skill points.

How important is it for you the way your character looks?
Give things the proper weight and make choices accordingly.

    You can't have it all.

WGT, CoAII (CoAI too, though to less degree) - even on normal s**t gets real if you're a vampire. I prefer to lower vampirism stage on my dunmer sorc even for normal. Vet - you can figure it out.

And I have like... no words about how totally screwed you are as a vampire on vMA 8th stage and vHoF. vHoF = 2nd stage of vampirism for dunmer and 1st for everyone else. You'll get absolutely rekt on 4th and last bosses in vHoF with higher stages.

Personally I like the way it looks. Also we aren't talking about 20 different types of vampires, just the one you get to be in this game, which is a kind of prototype vamp anyway, like a diesel VW, prone to some reality checking. I don't think it should be changed other than the body markings and tattoos displaying better. Some of my characters are vampires, and though I leave them all at stage 4 unless I'm leveling passives, stage 1 doesn't look bad and doesn't have any real drawbacks. I want to be able to identify vampires fast in PVP and in PVE.

If you want to look normal all the time why not just role-play a vampire? I've always wondered this since the feeding animation isn't really clever, you could likely /e it with a friend in a role-playing situation better than what the silly in game animations allow. As long as everyone agrees your some different species of vampire isn't it true you are? Not a bad solution, while leaving the game play some of us enjoy intact!

She is called Rahaja and must have really good genes, because she looks pretty decent as a vampire. Certainly better than the player^^. Her skin and eyes have been altered in a less drastic way and even such a tiny change would help vampires look cooler!

Considering she's clearly a Redguard, I'd say the changes to her skin are still pretty drastic. Even the lightest Redguard skin is light brown at best.

Technically Redguards, Dark elves and high elves shouldn't have a skin tone change when becoming vampires. It should be like Blade whom is a vampire but very dark skinned.

I really feel like a lot of people misunderstood the core statement of my thread, let me show you what I mean by "better looking vampires".

Draugar in Skyrim look pretty great, in my humble opinion ^^.
    Elder_Scrolls_5_Skyrim_Screenshot_Draugr.jpg

Whereas eso draugar look like shriveled up peasant bumpkins from "who-cares-where".
    4f1b542ff4e82effc696f5b3f83531ed.jpg

So, even though skyrim draugar look scarier, more "monstrous" if you will. I would say they look better, their appearance better reflects their vile nature and comes close to what I imagine an undead Nord corpse would look like.

So when I say better looking vampires. I want them to look more convincing! Stage 1 should perhaps resemble uninfected players and look attractive, since that is what lore suggests and stage 4 should look scary as hell :).

I am by no means asking for all vampires to look like this. (Though to be honest it would be kinda cool ;) )
    vampire_04.jpg

And I agree stage 4 HAS to look scary, maybe similar to this. And this is wayyyyy more monstrous than the current vampires.

The vampirism visual effect on your character looks awful. I would very much welcome a change to this visual effect, or at the very least the option to "hide" vampirism (like the hide helmet function). Because at the moment I am forced to use polymorphs and skins on all the characters that have vampirism and I think this is doubly unfortunate because vampires have the potential to look really great in this game ;) .

Let me disagree with you :). During character creation you wanted your female looking beautiful but also scary. It doesn't come in pair. Me for example wanted my vamp looking partial dead and mature since the beginning and that's why I love the look of my mature vampire :). It has everything the modern eso vamp needs. No excessive ugliness for which I could not look and like my character for too long. The vampirism effect is decent and toned. Leave it as it is now please.

At the risk of being metaphorically torn a new one, I personally would love vampirism to be modeled after Anne Rice's lore. Being immortal, and supernatural, they are ancient and have the wisdom of seeing the world differently to humans. I would suggest making the stages transform you from pale with lighter eyes, through to bright porcelain with glowing eyes and subtle yet noticeable fangs. But hey, that's just me.

    Caveats;

    1) No I'm not an RP'er
    2) No I don't mean make them look like Tom Cruise
    and
    3) Mentioning Twilight to vampire fans is like mentioning the prequels to StarWars fans, just harsh and uncalled for!

I would LOVE vampires that look like that! But, at the same time, I'd like to leave the original vampires as well. Here's what I WISH would happen. I wish they've been holding out on us because they're developing an awesome new DLC centered around vampires (and then I want a separate one for werewolves because cramming them both together just means they'll do them both badly and skimp) that will introduce other lore strains! And, like even if you were already a vampire in Dawnguard, you could literally change your "bloodline" to the one possessed by Harkon so I'd want to be able to do that here in ESO also. I'd like to see the Order and Glenmoril Coven vamps...who at Stage 1 look COMPLETELY normal and progress much as you describe though I feel Stage 4 should always be monstrous. I'd love to see the Volkihar with their vampire lord form as an Ultimate. I want new abilities based on the "new" lore strains. I think 3 or 4 that differ from the in-game vampirism we already have would be ideal. Including ones that are harmed by sunlight. And MAYBE there could be a quest reward of a magic item that would let ANY vampire hide the tell tale marks of their vampirism.
