I play solo Stam nb and got the 50 within the first 2 hours it was not hard L2P
    Typical non-helpful comment.

Typical you need to L2P you must be new or something if you can't get 50 kills

if people dont have access to battle grounds they arent going to b able to complete the event anyway- so does it even matter?
Thank you for your narrow mindedness - this thread is simply about the 50 kills achievement.

    im narrowminded... um OK LOL
you are so fixated on a specific achievment your not looking at the larger picture
this is an event for PvP players
and a great introduction to the diffrent aspects of PvP to new players
so i repeat - if you dont get the achievment - does it really matter?
please try & enjoy the event!

    but bk on topic

i have offered good advice to people of how to get their 50 killing blows - seiging/counter seiging
others have said about using oil which is an even better idea than mine & i blame a lack of coffee for not mentioning it

and it is countered with claims of people being too much of a team player to seige
now on one part i appreciate and respect the commitment to being a supportive role.
but on the other i know from experience (18 months as a supportive healer & tank across all classes in PvP) that it is important to slot an offensive skill,

seiging/defending/counterseiging is important - you do not have to stand on a seige while it resets, you can activate it, step away use a support skill (even resurrect someone), then step bk on the seige

slot any aoe dot skill - pick one it doesnt matter what you choose, just pick an aoe dot, drop it on breaches this is going to get you your kills

but seriously people try & enjoy the event - its supposed to be fun!

I understand your sentiment here and I am trying to enjoy the event.

The reality is that I suck at PVP and the 50 kill achievement is just reaffirming that I have trouble killing anyone :(

Do we agree, if, you end up standing behnd everyone, spamming execute on low health enemies, and everyone does this, the goal of ZoS is a piece of crap, does not make pvp better, jsut everyone spamming single abilities and taking killes from those trying to kill them normaly... i still say, stupid idea from them. What's more stupid in an MMO that someone spamming one skill?

Make your own pre-made. Just being in voice comms with a group of people you've worked with a bunch before -- even in PVE -- will help a lot.

I thought because I had made a comment earlier (I think it was on this thread, if not it was on a similar one that I cannot find), I would come back and post details of what caused my killing blows over the last couple of days (spent a few hours each day in Cyrodil, Vivec Campaign, NA PC server. I'm playing a magplar dps with heals on back bar). I used an addon to collect this information.

This is a record of my killing blows, and the skill/spell that caused that last bit of hp to be removed resulting in the opposing player's death.

I do NOT regularly PvP, although I have got quite into it in the last few days and am enjoying it. I'm wearing my usual PvE gear, my reaction time is slow due to osteoarthritis in my hands, and my ping is usually 180+ (although sometimes gets into the 300+ range).

    Heavy attack - 2
    Light attack - 3
    Grothdarr - 2
    Shooting Star - 3
    Burning Light - 8
    Puncturing Sweep - 18
    Reflective light - 27
Charged Weapon (ie the enchant) - 2
    Radiant Destruction - 13

By far the out and out winner is a DoT - So for those having trouble because of lack of experience or lag, just get into a big siege or zerg and cast DoTs on everything in sight, eventually something is likely to die as a result of one of the ticks of your DoT.

The other thing I feel compelled to say is that other holiday events are PvE based, even if you would never set foot in Cyrodil, why would you begrudge PvPers one measly holiday event a year aimed at them?

it ain't the 50 killing blows bugging me...it's the 250k AP...it's not even that it's all that difficult to get - was just a little disappointed when I noticed I need 25 boxes and not just 10...

I did ditch my defensive set though for the event and went all offense to get the kills :)

honestly, i personaly found that sieges are useless. those fireballs don't one shot anything, you have to get lucky and hit people who are either already low on health or hit them just after someone else helpfully brought down their health for you. I don't have the achievement yet, but I'm fairly close and vast VAST majority of my kills i got in battlegrounds, with the rest from attacking with my own abilities while storming or defending the keep, rather then using a siege. at this point I just about gave up on using sieges for anything other then destroying walls or enemy siege equipment. they are too slow, too cumbersome and even in non cp campaign don't deal nearly enough damage.

it IS an annoying achievement though.

P.S.. against all expectations... I'm finding keep sieges to be fun. event as in trying to get achievements? not so much. becasue instead of being a good teammate i find myself focusing more on trying to steal kills then anything else.

I think wrt your Post Script - yeah that kind of goes against the grain for this game. Usually, if you do a sufficient portion of damage in PvE, you get loot, you get xp, you haven't actually robbed anything from anyone else. In PvP, usually if you do damage to another player you will get some AP when they die, as will others who have contributed to the kill. So very little in this game is reliant on getting the killing blow that the mechanic for that as part of a fun event does seem odd. A higher number of kills (killing blows or assists) to get the achievement would have fit in better with the way the rest of the game works. IMO.

However, I think a lot of people already have the achievement now (or have decided it's not for them and are no longer in Cyro), and since in PvP there's no real kill stealing (outside of the event achievement) as you still get AP when a player that you did damage to dies even if you didn't deal the final shot, the likelihood of you actually denying another player something they need is probably fairly slim.

You can do scouting missions - just go into a quiet campaign and pick up scouting quests, each quest you return gives 1 box, in a quiet campaign that doesn't take long. Although tbh during the time this event has been running, I've had sufficient boxes from Rewards for the Worthy mails to get the 25 boxes achieve on 3 characters (just PvPing on 1 character, the boxes only count towards the achievement when you retrieve them from you mail, so you can PvP on one character, get a load of mails - which for me happen around once every 20 minutes* even if I'm dawdling - then relog and pick up the boxes on another character)

*Seriously, if there is one complaint I have about this event and the activities it relates to, it is that so many of the PvP/Battlegrounds rewards are sent by mail. At the end of a session of play, my mail resembles that of a PTS template character, it doesn't take long to reach critical mass. Zeni, if you *must* give rewards out this way, please make the inbox larger. Or better, just send gold, AP, or tokens to exchange for your choice of gear - instead of a ton of junk every day.

Well, any quests count for those boxes, including battleground quests and scouting missions. Not just rewards for the worthy.

yes and.. not exactly. even if I'm not stealing anything from anyone, i HAVE found myself, becasue its taking me so long to get the kills - to stop what i;m doing the moment I see red and instead focus on trying to get that killing blow. which sometimes means not resurrecting someone, abandoning sieges, etc. it would have been, IMO, as you suggested - MUCH better if it required more deaths, but any death you participated in - counted, rather then killing blows only.

unfortunately, as I have noticed, to my horror - the achievement for 250 kills in battlegrounds? to get the red dye. ALSO killing blows only. which only benefits the deathmatch. other modes? not as much.

P.S. hilariously, because its taking me so long to get those killing blows - I actualy ended up with far more then 250k ap and I don't have the achievement still. going to attempt to get it today. as people have said, following the large group around the map and capturing keeps/resurces - is ridiculously good source of AP. but hey.. I actualy have caltrops now! and I see why they are basically a must to have on a stam character, holy hell, they hit hard.

But I've already provided stats that show that DoTs are the most effective way to get kills - cast a DoT then rez, heal, whatever. I can fight and heal and rez, I may be a PvP potato, but I can do more than 1 thing at a time. If you are not usually fighting in between healing and rezzing, you are letting your side down - just throw in some DoTs.

EDIT: I mean seriously, if you even have a *thing* that you usually do in Cyrodil, that means you at least have some PvP experience - this achievement should not have been more difficult for you than it has been for the many complete PvP newbies I have seen get the achievement.

I don't have a thing I usually do in cyrodil, unless hunting for skyshards and fishing counts - before this event, my assault/support were at rank 2 - rank you get for turning in introductory quest, and my dots don't seem to hit hard enough to tick at just the right moment. so yes, its taking me a long, laborious time to get those kills. especially in Cyrodil, from MY experience, I got 2/3 of my kills in battlegrounds and if I were to wager a guess? it was due to competing with fewer people for that killing blow. I started joining siege groups running around becasue that is what was repeatedly suggested that i should do if i wanted to get caltrops etc. what i'm saying is - your stats on a single character - do NOT match my stats. you were playing on a templar. I'm playing in a stamblade. and i'm NOT a ganker, so I'm not really set up for insta burst.

I'm playing in a stamblade. and i'm NOT a ganker, so I'm not really set up for burst.

I'm not set up for PvP full stop, if you want the achievement you have to put in some effort and maybe adjust your usual playstyle. If that is not for you, accept that this holiday event is for PvPers and don't do it - PvEers get the rest of the holiday events, a lot of PvPers don't want to do those either and miss out on those rewards.

honestly, i personaly found that sieges are useless. those fireballs don't one shot anything, you have to get lucky and hit people who are either already low on health or hit them just after someone else helpfully brought down their health for you.

IMO.

However, I think a lot of people already have the achievement now (or have decided it's not for them and are no longer in Cyro), and since in PvP there's no real kill stealing (outside of the event achievement) as you still get AP when a player that you did damage to dies even if you didn't deal the final shot, the likelihood of you actually denying another player something they need is probably fairly slim.

yes and.. not exactly. even if I'm not stealing anything from anyone, i HAVE found myself, becasue its taking me so long to get the kills - to stop what i;m doing the moment I see red and instead focus on trying to get that killing blow. which sometimes means not resurrecting someone, abandoning sieges, etc. it would have been, IMO, as you suggested - MUCH better if it required more deaths, but any death you participated in - counted, rather then killing blows only.

But I've already provided stats that show that DoTs are the most effective way to get kills - cast a DoT then rez, heal, whatever. I can fight and heal and rez, I may be a PvP potato, but I can do more than 1 thing at a time. If you are not usually fighting in between healing and rezzing, you are letting your side down - just throw in some DoTs.

its not for me, but I want the rewards, so I'm doing it - and the one thing I NEVER said was that pvpers shouldn't have this even, on the contrary - I was all for it. I'm also not saying that i don't want to put in effort, I'm saying that its taking me a LOT of effort and that siege advice didn't work, neither does dot advice, as its CLASS SPECIFIC. I'm also saying that requiring KILLING blows was a bad design, becasue it encourages bad play instead of teamwork. this is what I'm complaining about. that me (and not just me) instead of focusing on the goal of the siege or whatever - instead are fighting for kills. do you know how many times i have seen sacrificial defender lambs - draw people away from their goal, by jumping out, becasue people are so... focused on getting those 50 kills, they tunnel vision on it and forget anything else exists??? too many times. BAD design. assists should have counted. make it 1000 deaths, make it 2500 deaths, make it so that like world bosses - it requires at least certain percentage of damage from YOU to count towards achievement (I mean they have that mechanic in place in battlegrounds, where assist medals exist and they are contingent on you actualy assisting, and not just sitting in a corner doing nothing). but killing blows was a BAD idea IMO.

Cool. Scroll back up and read what I said in post #73 of this thread. So what are we arguing about exactly? I've already agreed with you on principle, I just can't abide the huge amount of moaning (not from you specifically, but in general!) about this event - a load of people with a lot of different builds that I know got this achievement this week (some of them in 2 days then had to wait for the BG achieve to be fixed - people who usually play tanks and healers, people who play DKs and Sorcs and NBs and Templars, and both mag and stam builds) despite having never done PvP before. I suggest keep trying, I'll be cheering you on to get those kills :) Good luck!

thanks :D and I'll get it, I only have 13 kills left (which coincidentally happens to be the last achievement that I need ), so i should be done today :P it just... not easy for a fair number of us, unlike claims often made and I mainly posted here, becasue I tried the siege tactic from OP and got exactly zero kills from it :P I thought battleground win would take me the longest, but I lucked out after 2 days of spending all my playtime in battlegrounds (and encountering fun bugs like infinite loading screens followed by deserter debuff, though thankfully, of all the battlegrounds i did, I only dealt with THAT twice). sieges are fun when I'm less worried about killing blows and more worried about rezzing people, destroying walls, etc. and that red dye from 250 kills in battlegrounds... I'll just have to decide how badly want it :P from its image in achievement pane, it looks like brightest red in the game (not deepest, I think that was in emperor, but rather brightest)
