Idk about perma-death and losing your character all together.

But maybe losing all your gear and gold and ap and anything you had on you. Whoever killed you could loot your corpse and say like a half hour respawn counter. Instead of seige warfair i think like world bosses that drop the best loot , like gold jewelry and gear so the risk is worth the reward.

I would be intrested in somthing like that for sure.

Sure, but at that point I don't think anybody do the equivalent of trials and stuff cause you know you are going to die so why bother. Or the fights would be so simple there is no challenge.

Nothing is stopping you from doing this yourself. If your character dies, delete it.

Ty for your post, but as previously stated, making it incumbent upon yourself takes away the "thrill and trepidation", as you can just choose to not penalize yourself.

People here complain about entering Cyrodiil to run some quests because it has PvP and you think a permadeath server would work out? :D

But even in PvE, this game has lots of lame and cheap deaths so I would never play on it. lol

Most MMOs classes are too unbalanced to support permadeath. I can handle being killed by someone who outplays me by respawning, learning from my mistakes, and trying again. I'd go ballistic if I was permakilled by someone just because their OP skill helped 2 shot me..

@Turelus I agree in that I think most enjoy a more casual gaming experience. I know I do. But I think it would be fun to be able to roll a new char on a perma death server. I forgot to mention I think it should be high risk-high reward. Better gear drops from mobs etc.. That's how I'd like to see one in games.

Perma death better friggan give you gold everything in perfect traits

The only game I'm aware of with a perma death mode is Diablo 3 and, while I enjoy that game, I don't really consider it a MMO.

A large majority of ARPGs like Diablo 3 have a perma-death mode. Given that they grew out of roguelikes (which also tend to be permadeath), it's not a surprise. But yeah, they're ARPGs, not MMOs.

(MMO-wise, Wizardry Online was permadeath, apparently. Needless to say, it's not a huge game.)

edit: and I recall a number of people on the Skyrim & Fallout 3/4 forums who played "DiD" (dead is dead), and deleted their characters if they died. Which is always an option for players to do themselves, in any game.

There've been a couple permadeath MMOs in the last decade. Not many, but they do exist. The problem is, basically no one plays them. Calling them niche is an understatement.

The genre where permadeath thrives would be survival and roguelikes. In general, it's a pretty horrible idea for MMOs, simply because there are too many ways to make a mess of things. Ranging from server disconnects, to cheaters and exploiters. I mean, it's one thing if any player with a proc set can splash you, but it's an entirely different thing if every player with a proc set can wipe your character and loot your corpse.

That's the other problem with ESO, time to kill ranges massively, and can get shockingly short. At that point, permadeath wouldn't be exciting so much as randomly a 12 year old takes your character, tears up all your work, and then repeatedly stands and crouches over your corpse as an act of juvenile dominance.

I appreciate everyone who has contributed to my silly thread, but I was really thinking more from a PVE standpoint regarding perma death servers.

Lol, yeah, you can't really have perma-death in PvP if it takes more then 30 seconds to set up a new character ready to fight in tip top condition. It takes much longer in ESO, which frankly makes it a pita to PvP with alts.

Here you go, there' a 18 novel book series, 3 season show, and I think it even has a game or two to it.

Let me save you and everyone else the trouble and direct you to an overall better version of this show:

There is actual character development in this one.
The generally amicable yet sporadically salty magplar that may or may not have 1vXed you in Sotha Sil. Who knows?

In a perfect world that's a good idea but I have been kicked from the server only to log back in on my back on the ground (ie wake up dead ;) far too many times for this to be an option for me. I just don't enjoy the frustration of losing at a game due to things beyond my control and I don't think many people do. The technology must be more reliable for me to even consider that.
