Do you believe ESO lives upto the standards of an Elder Scroll game ?

Elder Scrolls franchise is one of the greatest fantasy game franchise of all times.

There is no doubt about that.

In fact I challenge you to show me a greatest list of RPG games without a single ES game in it.

Oblivion or Skyrim or Morrowind will surely be in top #10 (heck i daresay even top #5).

Elder Scrolls series , Diablo, Forgotten Realms, NWN, Baldurs gate saga are some of the pillars upon which the modern RPG genre has been inspired (that is just my humble opinion mates).

Do you really believe the game that we play called "The Elder Scrolls Online" lives upto the standards of an Elder Scrolls game ?

I think it's done well.

Since launch every update (justice system, housing, thieves and DB DLC) has made it feel more and more like a TES game.

Sure it's got MMO mechanics, yes it has balance problems, yes things get bugged sometimes but the setting, the lore and the feel of a TES game is there and I really love that.

I give it a vote for potential. The essence of TES is there, but could definitely use improvement.

I've always loved TES games, and ESO definitely captures the spirit and more of the single-player games. Out of all the MMO's out there, this is my favourite and I really hope that @ZOS will iron out some of those wrinkles....and also improve the endgame content, and the housing system.

@ OP: You have forgotten to mention the Final Fantasy franchise in your post. This is a franchise spanning 30 years, which is every bit as good as TES, and has produced two great MMOs, the first of which (FFXI) is still going strong after 15 years. In fact, the latest one FFXIV is currently the second most popular subscription based MMO (after WOW, no surprise there).

I don't think ESO should be thought of as a "successor" or "child" of the Elder Scroll franchise. More like a cousin. The setting and lore are the same but the gameplay and mechanics are fundamentally different. Playing ESO feels completely different than playing any other of the games in the franchise because of the MMO requirements.

For an MMO based on a series of RPGs, it's about as close as they can get. It adopts some MMO characteristics but still remains very much an ES game, especially after all these years of tweaking, most notably One Tamriel and the ability to explore to your heart's content.

If the consistant Cheating and Exploiting was addressed in 3 years then i would say Game was a success in my eyes.

Since people are botting/macro'ing/exploiting using 3rd party software and API functions/ exploiting PvP aspects and then PvE aspects like Leader boards scores then the game fails in my eyes.

ESO has never been competitive for the legit player.

I was skeptical at first and didn't bother with it for a while, but I think they've done a wonderful job overall.

in many ways its much better than Skyrim or Oblivion. This one and those round out my top 3 games

To me ESO feels more of an Elder Scrolls game than Skyrim ever did, and it's technically so much better all round. I have been back a couple of time playing vanilla Skyrim since I started playing ESO, and Skyrim is slow paced, clunky combat, bad graphics, small-scale compared to ESO.

This is exactly why most of you suck at PvP (and group content in general) and are struggling so hard to complete the Midyear Event. If you want a single player RPG, then go and play a single player RPG, this is an MMO and just happend to be themed on the Elder Scrolls franchise and that's it...

I'm between my answer and it's a good successor. The tipping point is this isn't a successor. It's not even by the same dev team.

Bethesda has said ES 6 is being "worked on" but is years away from even being really announced. This is a solid well done MMO. The story telling in is probably the best in the business. Are there issues yes, most notably, to me, the lack of defined roles for classes. Yes playing the way you want is nice, but when it's totally open it makes it hard to make a working group finder.

Issues get fixed and new issues come to light that is the way of software development.

If we got devs that work woth us rather than against us we'd have a worthy successor but as it stands now i have no idea what wrobel is doing i can only hope next year is better

There's still some core features missing from the game. ESO is better than it was at launch, but the bar was set so incredibly low that anything afterward would have likely been an improvement...

I only have experience with Skyrim and ESO - ESO is my first MMO and I bought it because I loved Skyrim. After playing for a couple of years, the "Elder Scrolls" aspect of the game isn't really relevant to me. But it did get me to buy it, and I do enjoy playing.

If the next ESO game, whenever that will be, was able to combine the fluidity and social aspects of ESO with the immersion, single-player main quest and the insane detail/draw distance/beauty of Skyrim SE, it would be a winner.

ESO has much potential, I love the stories and the adventures BUT

ZOS must solve the hardware problems and the programmcode-problems they are facing

and when they cannot fix it, they should consider putting the game on another base (workover)

cauze looking at loading screens, lagging, kicking, roll backs are not worth my time!
