I usually pick deeper, more vibrantly colored equivalents of the default costume's colors I'm wearing. For example, I dyed the Chancellor costume to look like Abnur Tharn's and I used Ayelid Gold to bring out the Dragon Priest's plating color a bit more.
I'm surprised that so many costumes have "washed-out" colors by default. Dying helps alleviate that.

Most of my characters get some variation including black. I tend to like the darker colors. Except my healer. My healer is in white and gold. Healers come from the light in my mind, so her armor/costume being black didn't make sense in my mind.

Brightest blue from the normal maw completion, since my jester argonian mask has an uncolorable white I'm forced to have to have double bright blue with white.
I sometimes go with blacks and other dark colors, but I mainly use browns, light browns, bronze and some gold. Lighter gold though. A friend called it a "sunburst finish". I'm not a guitar!

Honestly it depends on what my character looks like, her class, etc.
My main Darkra, has the mane of many colors (The green and blue one) so she usually has black and blue colored armor/costumes. (She has black hair, and fur too (Khajiit))
Then I have my crafter, The naked Princess (Yes She is named the naked princess, I was basically dared to keep her and i have xD) Usually wears armor and costumes with red, since she has a red flower.
My stam sorc is black and blue since she wears Dro'M-Athra armor.
Blood red roses is black and red, since her fur is black and she has red flowers.
I have more toons but you get the point. xD I usually use rare colors too, like Coldharbour ash black, Dro'M-athra blue, etc.
I have been a member of ESO since April 4th 2014 but didn't get a code until recently when I asked.
My @ name on ESO is the same as on here.
Mostly black or all black. If I mix in some color, I'll add the Akatosh scales gold and maybe some contraband violet as accents. Those colors look great on Yokudan!

I thought black was the lack of color..... options fail?
Black would be the presence of all, White would lack of color
Without going into debate, this is a source of confusion/debate in itself, but while I could start arguing you are wrong or that I am right and etc... etc...., I encourage you instead to look it up, perhaps you'll confirm you are right, or perhaps you'll see what I meant, or that I was myself, correct.
