I've never done it, and don't plan on ever doing it. I may sometimes be spotted having my characters wear unisex clothing (e.g. Cyrod Gentry's Town Gown), but that's about as far as it goes. And the only reason why I wear that on my male characters, is because it is the closest thing to a toga that ESO has to offer. All that cross-dressing and other stuff? N'ah. Not for me. I'll pass.

I wouldn't dress a male character in female clothing personally, but I know many people do. And IDGAF. They can do whatever they want with their character. I think most of them do it for the lulz, but it's possible some of them do it for aesthetic purposes or other reasons (I'm not going to get into a lengthy discussion about gender identity or societal gender clothing assignment or whatever - this is not the place for that).

As for how I play my "toons", whether they are an extension of myself, an RP character, eye candy, or just some pixels on a screen... my main is usually an extension of myself, and as such, is male. He's usually not particularly good looking, because I want him to look like me. :D I don't always play him exactly the way I would play, however... like when it comes to TG and DB; I can't see myself doing that kind of stuff (murdering and thieving and such) in real life, unless I was really desperate. But aside from a few minor transgressions, my main represents me.

I don't currently have any alts in ESO, but I have had alts in other games, and they are generally a mix of both male and female. My "secondary main" is usually female, and she represents my main character's significant other. Of course I make her aesthetically pleasing. My other alts usually represent friends or siblings of my main characters, and they are generally a mix of both male and female, each with their own storylines. Internal storylines, at least, since I don't actively RP with other players - but like many of the people who posted in this thread, I like to think that each of my characters has their own style, personality and back story. Yeah, I'm kind of nerdy like that.

But anyway, TL;DR version: lots of people dress male characters in female clothing. Lots of males play female characters. Not a big deal. Let people do what they want.

Scariest thing I've ever seen "in-game" was in Craglorn, there is a male toon that is massively fat wearing only a pink Nord bathing towel.

The ones offended by anyones choice of dress just make me LOL. We are an indoctrinated into a society that tells people "This is who you are and how you have to be." It causes discomfort because it shatters their Matrix, their "Reality" that leads them to believe THIS is how the world is SUPPOSED to be. They have been assimilated into the system. Basically real life NPCs. Not to say you are wrong for liking what you like but it is not your place to tell anyone else How to be. Liberate yourself. Do you do what you do because you enjoy it or are you desperately seeking recognition or approval for being just like everyone else? If so, then good for you, live your life as you please and allow others to do as they see fit. The extent of your control over this world ends at your own actions. Worry about yourself!!! <3

I prefer to mix mine with the jester personality because who really wants to get killed by a tiny wood elf in a bright blue dress who then prances away merrily afterwards! At this point I have gotten a lot of crowns from eso plus and I don't know what else to spend them on but crown crates. Eso makes it very clear through my items received in said crown crates that I should be wearing a dress and that my maxed provisioning and alchemy skill is not good enough.

This cannot be emphasized enough. This is pure truth.

Well, you gotta have gender equality. If guys are allowed to work at a H-ooter Restaurant and wear the same skimpy setup that those girls wear (not sure why a guy would.. but for principle reason), then same goes in ESO.

Wait... ("owl themed" restaurant whose name is apparently censored) is now hiring male servers? I did not know that.

I think I may have grounds for a gender discrimination lawsuit against a coffeeshop I applied to work at 20 years ago (they only hired pretty young females).

It's weird and it ruins my immersion, but whatever I played my fair share of MMOs and I know there are bunch of people that like doing it.

But if there are more than 2 genders, as some advocate for, how can there be only female/male clothes?

You don't have to let it ruin your immersion. Just imagine that they're other NPCs who are a bit "different".

Well one, there are more than two genders (please see my post on page 4) and two, the gendering of clothes is purely artificial. Example, in Roman society flowing garments were not gendered they were a sign of nobility where as actually wearing pants like those barbarians north of the Alps was an indication of a lack of civilization (when in reality it's colder in Northern Europe who would have guessed). High Heels even were not gendered, they used to be considered shoes of a warrior (particularly of the mounted variety). I mean if you want to be seen as more intimidating, being taller really helps sell it. It wasn't until the popularization of heels among women in I think 1700's or 1800's France, don't quote me on that been a while since I've read on the subject, that heels became considered women's footwear.

    Isn't history neat?

No seriously, i have an equal amount of female and male characters and pick them according what looks better.

Too be fair, I think my main female looks great in a suit or a dress... just depends. I say be free. Sure we might judge each or laugh as intended, but in the end it's our happiness... Also it's but a game.

I imagine you have a hell of a time staying immersed in your real life then, people everywhere looking and acting differently than you think they should.

It's a character in the game. It's gender or appearance absolutely may not have any relevance to the person playing.

Some of my characters are female. Not because I want to be one, nor because I'm sexually starved enough to want to look at a computer generated arse. Maybe I just fancied changing it up a bit.

There's enough crap like this in real life. Let people on a game do what they want if they're not interefeing with other people.
