New fun "lag" problems

I am hanging/spinning "forever", on a regular basis (more often than not at the moment I am writing this), trying to log into the game (to character select screen), enter/exit the game world with a character, or changing "zones" )either via wayshrine, or transitioning through a doorway/etc). Basically, at any point a loading screen is presented to me, progress ceases.

The game is rapidly becoming unplayable.

I understand ZOS is at the mercy of their service providers, as are we all, but their whole capacity to do business is under threat. They might want to consider escalating... either to consult legal counsel preparatory to holding their service provider(s) accountable for failing to meet basic QoS requirements, and/or expanding their infrastructure to multiple POS service centers (with dedicated capacity provisioned between them), etc.

The game won't survive if people can't access it.

Just the other day, I was stuck at another "unusually long load time." My son asked me why it's considered unusually long when it happens more often than not lately. Good question, son, good question.

I was fighting a DK in IC last night that was teleporting around me, making finishing him off almost impossible at times. My ping was around 80 which is typical of IC for me, but despite that skills constantly fire off on a delay or you get CC'd and cannot break it in time.

For me this started happening ever since that big server crash a few weekends ago on PC/NA.

... not to mention guild stores and the in-game mail system simply ceasing to function for no apparent reason. Progress bar, anyone? Timeout indicator?

Yet more fun "lag" problems, which I have not seen before, occurring as I write this:

    - game ignores all keyboard input for 5+ (and up to 15+) seconds after completing fast travel via wayshrines (weird); a second or so is common, but an extended period like this is unusual

    - final dolmen chest materializes as lootable, but is labeled "Mystery Meat" (rather than "Chest") and is unresponsive to all UI interaction for 5+ seconds, before relabeling as "Chest" and becoming responsive (weirder)

    - A daedroth (really love those guys) knocked my toon down with a "fire spit" attack; my toon remained on its back, able to move (by sliding around on its back) and "jump" (rising up into the air and falling back to the ground, all while on its back), but otherwise inoperable, for 15+ seconds before suddenly recovering (weirdest); it is fairly common in my experience for toons to get stuck in "mid-melee" (weapon swing animation freezes, toon ceases to be able to attack); a weapon swap usually clears this... this was much stranger and more severe

All of this while Alik'r dolmen farming, which (granted) is probably always going to be relatively "lag intensive", but as I say, I have not seen any of these particular issues before.

All of this culminated in something I HAVE seen before: all game action "froze", all units (PC and NPC) stuck running in place/etc, until I killed the game client via OS action. I immediately fired up WinMTR, to see if I could capture where the route was dropping packets, but everything appeared to be normal. At no time did I observe my latency counter display a value in excess of "100" (70-90 was typical). So, it is possible these problems were due to sluggish ZOS platform/infrastructure rather than service provider unreliability.

    That's wisdom :-)

... and I just now dismounted, and for minutes have been moving by scooting along the group on my posterior, like a canine cleaning itself on a piece of carpet (offensive image, I apologize in advance). Mounting/dismounting does not clear the condition. Had to actually log out and back in again.

... and was just feared into a rock, at a dolmen, could not extricate myself from the rock while in combat, did not get credit for the dolmen despite damaging spawns there, and then had to pay 141g to recall to a wayshrine to extricate myself. Exceptionally weird, never happened before in months of dolmen farming.

I agree, this sort of thing is now the norm. Proper function is less and less usual.

All of these oddities seem to have abated in the past few days.

Dunno about other people, but from my experience, whatever they have been doing seems to be improving the situation... which is a big relief!

    Thanks.

LOL, just after writing this, I logged into the game to play, and was immediately hit with a massive multi-minute long lag spike which culminated in a disconnect.

So, our various issues seem alive and well. It appears I merely got lucky for a couple of days.

Update: more lag spikes, more disconnects. No problems visible via WinMTR when run against "launcher.bethesda.net"... so either the game is actually employing a different route or the problems are 100% at the server end.
