Automaton vs. Spriggan's for Stam Sorc?

Which set is better for stam sorc? Automaton gives a flat increase in weapon damage to physical damage, which is what a stam sorc mostly uses. Spriggan's is more situational as it depends on how much pen or reduces resistance the group already has.

Has anyone done extensive testing on this? Or any experience with it?

I'm running 5x Automaton and 5x VO, and so far I'm satisfied with the results but I would just like to know what the general consensus is on the matchup between these 2. Thanks

depends where do you play , pvp or pve and the quality grade (epic/legendary)

PvE, gold quality on the weapons, purple on everything else. I play mostly 4 man dungeons, infused and precise on the weapons for Automaton. Precise and Sharp on weapons or Spriggan's.

I may be wrong but I dont think there is any way for 4man veteran content to reach 100% uptime on maximum physical penetration (or number less than ~3k below it) without using penetration set (maybe not even that). Even less so with sharpened nerf next patch.
So spriggan should win.

but in my opinion the difference does not matter lol

Sharp is nice but not for too long. As well as since you mentioned that you play mostly solo or 4 man dungeons, for a stam Users getting enough penetration is not easy compared to mag user. 4000 penetration from spriggan will have better DPS value compared to automaton. The only problem is weapons with both sets.

Thank you for the input folks, I haven't tested them versus each other so can't really say which one is better. I guess it comes down to how much extra dps each point of penetration gives?

Isn't there a sheet somewhere giving a pretty accurate indication of how much extra dps each 1000 penetration gives? Would love to see that if anyone finds it.

In the end it all comes down to player skill and an effective rotation, just don't want to gimp myself by using the wrong set.

So you think that Spriggan's might be better?

And what weapons supply highest general DPS? Dagger/dagger or dagger/axe?

Depends on your crit chance and who you are fighting. The axe bleed wont do much on mobs since they die too fast. So with your options I would choose 2 daggers to get around 60-70% crit.

Meh, got 76% crit chance with axe and dagger anyway. Honestly, I dont really notice much difference in damage no matter what I do. But I do love Spriggan's Thorns, so my vote goes to that.

I'm running 5x VO as the other set and for me there's just too much I lose if I switch out that set. I get excellent sustain, reduced stamina costs, weapon damage, crit, major expedition when killing a target.

Will probably never swap out that set in pve unless I become better at sustaining and managing resources

Well Spriggan just got nerfed to 3450 pen, down from 4000, and NMG remains at 2580, so mebbes not so good anymore.

No, only 1-4 pieces with penetration are getting nerfed. Spriggan's penetration comes in at the 5th piece.

No, spriggan and spinner (the magicka pen set) got nerfed last PTS patch
