It started before the event. I don't think it has anything to do with population. I just wish it didn't kick you from the server if you close and restart.

I mostly encounter long loading screens when I am in a large group. Even when leaving that group does not fix it, but when I restart game (and not join group) it is mostly fixed.

I wish I could help you. After my first hour of Cyrodiil during this event (queue -> join -> heavy lag+crash -> requeue -> join -> heavy lag+crash -> shut off PS4) I have completely quit trying to play ESO PvP for at least this weekend.
