Just curious do add-ons like master merchant, tamerial trade center contribute to world wide lag issues?

Yes. All addons do, not just the ones you listed. The more you run, the more RAM you use on your machine, leaving less space for the RAM hog of a client.

Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

Since they only run on your client, they don't contribute to the world wide lag issue. They do, as mentioned by other posters, contribute to your own lag. Mainly noticeable with master merchant on login is a freeze, which happens when MM updates all its listings.

They definitely decrease your game performance.
Master merchant is especially laggy for me, my game briefly freezes when it updated (which is very noticeable in combat lol). So I only use it on my crafter.

But isn't MM doing multiple searching in game to get that listing for you. Just has me wondering what's the effect on general population performance if everyone is used it.

Just get a million terabytes of RAM and you can run anything you want.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's scraping your game cache files. You already (probably) grabbed that information from the game when you last visited a relevant trader. That was the workaround player devs had to use in Eve until CCP eventually exposed the relevant information via the API.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Most info gets already displayed in the guild history (in a completely incomprehensible and unreadable format), thus probably already gets send to all the players anyhow. Furthermore, if these add-ons were a major contribution to lag, ZoS wouldn't have exposed the API for it.

They contribute to fps drops, mostly. Keeping things like scrolling combat text and MM on in PvP and trials is a huge fps killer.

Any addon that communicates excessively with the server will contribute to overall server lag, but most addons from what I can see mostly parse and react to the information already sent from the server anyway, so their strain on the server usually isn't too extreme in the grand scheme. The absolute biggest contributor to the perceived network lag is the skill and LoS calculations that get run whenever there are many players in the same place all spamming skills at the same time.

Frame loss can be more readily linked to addons than network lag. While raiding in cyrodiil, I've had group mates report frame gains of ~10 fps by disabling things like mini-map.

In essence, anything that adds work for your computer will technically lower overall performance or hog more memory, but very few of the addons will make a perceivable difference.
