No, it's fine. But with all the countless thread people make about "I want everything without having to buy any of the dlc content" or "I want max level and all gold gear from the start" just keep pushing it farther, until ZOS finally just says "*** it, here have everything" and they stop making content and doing updates.

Craft them some gear, teach an basic one bar rotation as in DoT and spam and they have no issue.
Players who do LA with bow in junk gear find game hard.

I'm a (relatively) new player, having been playing for nearly a month now. I'm sitting at CP 155 and have done zero grinding and even spent a fair amount of time leveling my crafting skills. I've made it as far as I have by mostly running around the zones collecting skyshards and running through the delves & public dungeon in the area.

As far as questing goes, I've only done Vvardenfell and a small bit of the main story & alliance story (I'm in Deshaan at the moment). Leveling in this game is really not all too bad at all and has actually been pretty enjoyable.

They may not stop making content as long as it makes them money, but no one should ever find this game even remotely hard, especially as easy as it already is.

I am over 700 CP and still manage to get like 1 every day. It's not that hard with the catch-up mechanic for low CP players. And next patch it will be adjusted again to go even faster.

I have a friend who recently picked up ESO on Xbox. Myself and the 3 other people I always run with are already 500CP+.
As of right now, he is a level 33 and is overwhelmed. Not just with the game but with the daunting task in front of him. Now, I can appreciate the grind, and the fact that we all had to do it, however should ZOS add some kind of catch up mechanic to make it more inviting to new players?
We need to keep a healthy new player base, and I know we already have lower amount of xp needed at the low champion points but it still seems insane to new players.
Do you think zos should include an auto-160cp once you hit level 50 when you purchase a new copy of morrowind? This would help with the daunting amount of CP it takes to catch up to current players and give them an obtainable goal, especially when it comes to using the available gear.
I feel bad for my friend, especially with the fact he may never catch up. This would really help our casuals- which we NEED to keep the game moving forward.

There is already a catch up mechanism in place, and it works pretty well. The first few hundred CP you will earn very fast. Each subsequent champion point requires more and more XP so by the time you are close to the cap, each additional CP requires around 400,000 XP.
    Hey everyone,
Thanks for all the feedback so far. We love reading your enthusiasm on this new system. Our goal is to make it as polished and awesome as possible before releasing to the live servers. The three main changes we’re looking to make are:
    • Reducing the speed at which XP per point accelerates. Our data shows there is a good number of people in the 300 champion point range and we didn’t want them to feel like they had to grind all the way to 501 before the system releases. This now means players are gaining champion points faster than the old value up until their 445th point.
    • Slightly increasing base XP. This helps normalize the curve a bit so players are spending a little more time in the beginning of the curve and less time at the end of the curve.
    • Reducing the XP penalty for players past cap. We want dedicated players to still be able to make meaningful progress.

The formula would be adjusted in the following way to meet these goals:
    • ((TotalPoints / (Cap ^ 0.995)) + 0.085) * 400000, where Total Points is how many CP points you’ve earned.
    • If you exceed the cap, the XP required is calculated given the above formula and then multiplied by 1.5.
    • For the first Champion Point (going from 0 Champion Points to 1 Champion Point) 34000 XP is required.

Not sure if this formula has changed a bit since that time, but the cost of the first CP is very low, and it gradually rises up to around 400,000 XP when you reach the current cap of 630. (This is the cost without enlightenment. While enlightened, the cost for each point is reduced by 75%.)

Once you are over the 630 cap it continues with the same formula; however, with additional penalty of 150% higher XP cost for each CP.

If you are grinding, wearing all training gear and using xp potion/scrolls, it's not hard to earn 1.5 - 2million XP/hr. Even if your friend is just playing normally and doing PVP or quests, he will still get to CP160 pretty quickly.

They have enlightenment and got rid of vet ranks so the catch up mechanics are already there and the road has been made easier. Powering people to CP cap just creates more really bad high level players.

As much as I want them to grind every single point like I did it is very discouraging for new players.

When I get asked if a new player 10-250Cp can join my pvp guild I say "Yes but see you in 6 months when you won't proc VD on the group"

They understand the grind that needs to be. Typically they will earn another 100 over the next week or so and realize they are still only halfway and quit. This has happened to at least 15 times since Homestead patch.

Me personally would say bump the first 350cp by a lot. Keep the same as now from 350-600cp. Increase the last 30-60cp exp needed by a lot.

That way lvl 50-cp 350 is easy and should make all vet content doable. Still the same grind as now for the next 250cp. But if they want to max out Cp would need a lot of work from 600-cap.

I feel like this may be a Troll post since what OP is asking for is exactly what 1T was about. If OP thinks it is bad now, they should have been around when VR levels were here- no scaling, level based zone difficulty, group based areas, only a fraction of the sets were available for end-game use. 1T dumbed the game down to where anyone can pick it up and start playing anything in the game except for the end-game.... by end-game, I mean vet dungeons and vet trials. And they have already altered how CP gain works to make it easier on newer players several times now

I am in the exact same place as your friend. I just came back after doing beta. As a long time gamer I have been having a blast and am quite happy that there is so much content besides end game. Right now I'm just trying to find a couple of good guilds to join to help me on my way.

Skyreach levelers are the lazy players that make everything harder for everyone else because they never took the time to learn the game.

Tell your friend to do the main story, then his faction storyline, and the random quests while research what build he wants to make.

When I started playing I didn't grind or even care to play or understand the game on the level of cp 600s at the time.

I spent my time questing, exploring, and under 50 PVP until I hit 160. It's my till this point that I began really understanding the game mechanics, doing dungeons, farming gear, etc.

I now play PVP with my 630 friends, and although I'm only at 280 so far I'm still able to compete and have a great time.

What's the rush? I started playing in mid-December. By end of January I had one character at lvl 50. Two weeks later, CP160. Today, three fully leveled characters (DK tank, magsorc, magplar) CP480. My main finally has a fully leveled horse this week, I'm almost an 8-trait crafter across the board. I've never grinded anything just for XP. I just play what I want to play. And I wouldn't have wanted _any_ of it to have been easier or faster. And there's plenty left to do!

It sounds like he's feeling rushed. It's understandable. He wants to play with his friends. You can help him by removing any external pressures to "catch up." Encourage him to enjoy the game experience. You only get to start this once for the first time. You only get to enjoy the story until it becomes a grind with every new character after the first times through it. Encourage him to try out new classes and builds. Getting to CP 160 Doesn't take that long, especially if one of his friends helps him grind during a double xp weekend with xp pots and scrolls. Also gear with "training" trait on top of that will get crazy results, especially if you "blue" it up for him. You don't have to wait for double xp though. XP pots, scrolls with training gear will get him where he wants to go fast.

I am thinking of my friend. I can tell him over and over that it is not that bad, but sitting at level 37 he doesn't believe it will get much better. Having this may just help his mindset... I agree with a lot of the posts here saying it is not that bad. I know that, he doesn't.

I think it's only daunting if you see levelling to 50/CP160/whatever as something you have to get out of the way ASAP so you can start playing the game.

If you just play and accept that at some point you'll reach max level it will probably take you longer but that doesn't matter because you're already playing the game instead of spending your time standing in a grind spot killing the same things over and over hoping that if you can do it "efficiently" enough then eventually you will have reached the point at which other people have decided you are allowed to actually play your game.

I don't think the game should hand out levels just for showing up though. I want as many new players to join the game as possible so it can stay alive and vibrant, but I can live without the ones that can't handle too many options placed in front of them.

The issue though is people just want to catch up. So they just grind to hit max level then complain about a lack of content.
