New players have it tough

I have a friend who recently picked up ESO on Xbox. Myself and the 3 other people I always run with are already 500CP+.
As of right now, he is a level 33 and is overwhelmed. Not just with the game but with the daunting task in front of him. Now, I can appreciate the grind, and the fact that we all had to do it, however should ZOS add some kind of catch up mechanic to make it more inviting to new players?
We need to keep a healthy new player base, and I know we already have lower amount of xp needed at the low champion points but it still seems insane to new players.
Do you think zos should include an auto-160cp once you hit level 50 when you purchase a new copy of morrowind? This would help with the daunting amount of CP it takes to catch up to current players and give them an obtainable goal, especially when it comes to using the available gear.
I feel bad for my friend, especially with the fact he may never catch up. This would really help our casuals- which we NEED to keep the game moving forward.

My friends that tried it were overwhelmed by how big map is and quest adhd even after explaining to just stick yo a zone etc. They are new to mmos as well though and pretty much quit.

This game has a tremendous amount of content, and that is one of the most fantastic aspects of the game. I think anyone who is so overwhelmed by this that they walk away from the game is really missing out.

I don't think the game should hand out levels just for showing up though. I want as many new players to join the game as possible so it can stay alive and vibrant, but I can live without the ones that can't handle too many options placed in front of them.

There's already a catch up mechanic. When entering CP it goes hella fast, less xp to get to the next CP level than for higher levels, by far. Take him to a nice grind spot, group of 2 for maximum xp gain and throw on some xp pots. He will be cp 160 in no time, able to wear top end gear.

I can understand how it can feel overwhelming to a genuinely new player, but saying it's "tough" is weird. As a new player I'd feel more excited as there's a ridiculous amount of content to play with. It's about the ride, not the destination.

I get it, I have just seen so many of my friends fizzle out and die. Since everyone says it is so easy, would this really be such a big deal since it would help big time with the players mindset?

New players should be practising playing as much as possible before inflicting themselves on everyone else. That's what those levels are for.

Maybe you can help your friends appreciate all the options and fun this game has to offer. That way they won't feel like they are failing for simply playing the game. You are right when you mention mindset. They need to change theirs.
Short of that look into getting friends with with a higher attention span that can finish something they start without getting a handout of free levels.

This MMO is a more casual MMO (I've heard, this has been my only MMO). So I can see the reason to allow new players to catch up to vet players in terms of ability to obtain gear. IMO, I think that the gear level system should be trashed, and should only rely on the gear quality system. Though this would require a huge overhaul on the crafting system.

All the Skyreach levels I've met are trash at PVP and terrible with dungeon mechanics.

Skyreach levelers are the lazy players that make everything harder for everyone else because they never took the time to learn the game.

Tell your friend to do the main story, then his faction storyline, and the random quests while research what build he wants to make.

The worlds not as big as people think it is =/

Take it slow and don't try to do everything at once. I started on April 16th of this year and now I have 6 lvl 50's and am 300CP plus. One of the char has BiS gears. I never rushed at any point and just played the game when I had time. I believe majority of the players here went through the same thing I did so, just don't think too much and take it slow.

Is it a bit daunting? Sure, but that's something as a new player to an MMO that's been out for 3 years, should be kinda prepared for. Your friend is lucky that he has someone in game who is willing and able to help him.

I think one of the reason we aren't handed cp 160 as soon as we lvl to 50 is, that is part of the learning system. Getting to 50 you don't even have all of your skills open yet. You use that time to learn your class, learn your skills, your rotations, as a new player this is so important.

Don't think anyone should get catch-up first time round but if you had already done all DF content and wanted an alt it'd be pretty cool if at the start it gave you an option like "you have done all these boring to do again storylines before, would you like to auto complete them", that imo would be cool.

The good news is that even if you "power level" with someone in a day (I assume we are talking CP 160) - everything in the game is still available to you and relevant!

Unlike other mentioned MMO's which only have grey areas that you would not want to run through anymore. (Edit: As in most of them except the current max level maps and dungeons/raids.)

But let's agree that this has nothing to do with tough, hard or difficult. These new players just feel the need to be the same level as their friends asap.

I have to disagree as this may encourage people to expect to be carried the rest of the way.

I feel like the gear being so disposable because you quickly outgrow it pre-160 helps add variety to the gear and setups you choose. This also causes you to rely on your skills more than your gear. You may even be inspired to craft your own and see what that's all about, because you have ample time until the 160 BiS min maxing etc grind.

There is a catch up mechanic, and a pretty damn strong one. Once you hit vet, you have enough enlightenment to breeze through to like cp 90 in 2 hours(no kidding, no grinding either, doable just from questing/publics). You will literally be getting a cp every second trash pack. After that it'll slow down a bit but you still get enlightenment daily and low cps require a LOT less xp than higher one. Plus they re-scale the xp required every time they raise the cap so it's easier to earn your first few hundred. Basically it might take your friend a while to hit cp 630, but he can and will(if he keeps playing that is) hit cp 160+ really easily.

Let me put the shoes on for you.

Background:
I played on the NA server 2/3 years almost every day.

I recently started playing on the EU server starting all over. You are right, it is tough being a noob. Not having any gold, or armor but as far as questing goes, why rush it? Does your friends really need to be max level in a day, a week, or a month? On the EU server I am doing fine now. I have 3 characters, levels 30, 15, 11. I'm leveling all my crafting on one character and researching traits. I play PvP with other noobs and when the action is slow I go to Vivec and play with the big boys. Sometimes I even go down to IC and grind stones with out any problems.

The point I am trying to make is, you can play the game perfectly at low levels. You can play with high level friends or solo. The best thing you can do for your noob friends is to send them some gold to help them in the beginning, or craft them some armor.

Actually, it would be shooting the players in the foot, then handcuffing their hand behind them, and putting a blindfold on them. Leveling a character is learning the character and the game. To open up the game and have a CP160 Template or some kind of accelerated leveling curve, which we already have to an extent, just means they won't know what to do with the character.

BTW, to achieve Vet Ranks before took weeks and weeks of effort and grind, and forced you into the Main Quest. Now you can get there in hours. Its accelerated enough.

No, it's fine. But with all the countless thread people make about "I want everything without having to buy any of the dlc content" or "I want max level and all gold gear from the start" just keep pushing it farther, until ZOS finally just says "*** it, here have everything" and they stop making content and doing updates.
