The fear is that the mat used to upgrade current gear will ONLY be available for a ridiculous amount of Writ Vouchers, as the datamine contained info about it being linked to writ vouchers.
So even if it does come, they have designed a mechanic to allow you to simply upgrade all your gear via crafting. It will however require a fully levelled crafter (50 in all crafting skills), plus an amazing amount of writ vouchers to allow you to acquire the mats in the first place (I would also assume that it will most likely be on the CS as well).
However, its not in current patch notes suggesting that this system is possibly delayed until Clockwork City?

i REALLY hope thats true - gear level increase is absolutly NOT necessary and only has negative consequences due to all the grinding you would have to do again...i think it might push some people with a lot of characters over the edge that they just give up and move on...while not having ANY benefit on the game...
Gear level is also not really required with the eso system and one tamriel tbh - they can continue to raise cp if they want and this will be much smoother
so please NO increase in gear levels

Getting stuff at the new cap would mean we just got back to where we were before they raised it so guaranteed zero gain and a whole lot of pain in the process.
Just cannot see how they could ever possibly countenance it knowing the fallout that would ensue.
I'd actually be happy if they allowed for alternate cp160 mats to be harvested which were equivalent to but not rubedo/rubedite.. and when used gave items (especially weapons) a different hue. Thats the only difference, allowed base crafted or dropped items to not all be red at max CP.

Anyone want to try their hand at designing the possible answers?
Something like:
Quit ESO
Grind out the new gear
Continue playing in current gear and ignore the new cap
... what else?

I'll be a sad panda if / when it happens. I know people say that it hapens in every MMO.
Well, why can't ESO be the game that goes about it differently?
(I'm not saying that there isn't a game that doesn't do gear differently, so please don't nerd-rage on me. The only MMO I've ever really played has been ESO.)

And this is why they may raise it someday. You are done in their eyes and when a player is done they eventually lose those players.
MMOs are all about the gradual increase in GEAR. That is what it is all about, leveling and gear that matches. Otherwise why have levels or gear to match. Why create the complicated dungeons that people have to "farm" to get the best gear.
You can only manipulate the attributes so much on a specific level gear.
If dungeon "X" has better gear than dungeon "Y" but is same level, then why even do dungeon "Y." This equals lost content. I see them raising the level, but not 20 CP points. That is not enough. I can do 20 cp points in a few days not even be enlightened. It will probably be significant. IMO it should be 400 -600cp or something to that extent. Something that takes a while to get to, otherwise like I say you lose content worth playing.
And for those that say they are not ready to farm another gear set, yes you are or you wouldn't be here. If you already farmed one set, you will do it again and they know it.
The only thing that took me away from Lotro was real life work and a little drama in the raiding KIn(guild) i was in. Mostly real life work was overwhelming. The "I don't want to do it again" is the fear of not having the "best available" and as soon as they raise it, you will no longer have the "best available" gear. So off to farming you go and they have retained a subscriber with new content for just a little longer.
