Screen shaking and motion sickness.

Is there any way to turn off screen shaking when you cast Eruption/Scorch/Wall of Elements/other similar abilites?
Motion sickness is a thing, guys. So are headaches.

Head bob is on 0, but I play in 3rd person, so it doesn't matter.

Btw, there are a lot of threads about this all over the internet, if you weren't aware. Simple googling proves that.

I don't believe the is an option for this, but maybe with enough traction in a forums thread it could be another toggle.

I have seen it in other games for the same reasons you give.

Agreed. I get motion sickness from a lot of things in this game, and end up just closing my eyes to a lot of it and waiting for it to pass. (Annoying bolt escape sorcs, I'm looking at you!) I also can't ride camels or bears without wanting to hurl immediately.

I'm pretty sure there must be a way of turning this off, I get motion sickness from screen shake in most games, but I've never noticed it in ESO in all the years I've played, so if you say there's screen shake then I must have turned it off years ago and forgot.

Yep, Headaches are something I get in ESO quite a bit with all the flashing and brightness, In destiny I always have the color blind mode on to dim it, thank god they are adding this to eso now Finally I will be able to see the casting floor things. I have never noticed screen shakes, but I can see how you could easily get motion sickeness, especially in cyrodiil. Deffo needs to be looked into!!

I get massive headaches from this game all the time. Not sure if it is from screen shakes or motion. I am inclined to think it is from all the bs that Zos shoves at us.....lol

It makes feel woozy for a few seconds when I play in first person ( I use first person for fishing only ) and forget to turn it off as i start running or something..

I sometimes get motion sickness while playing too. As it doesn't happen all the time, I think it might be when the frame rate drops but I'm not sure. I have to stop playing if it gets too bad.

This is a bit of an aside, but a lot of times, people who suffer motion sickness and/or headaches from computer games actually need to get their eyes checked and possibly need corrective lenses. It sounds kinda weird, but when your eyes aren't focusing right, that's when you get motion sickness. ...not trying to say anything derogatory about anyone.

At any rate, prolonged gaming does cause significant eye strain. If you need to, take a break and observe the 20/20/20 rule of eye fatigue: Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and focus your eyes on something at least 20 feet away.

I read that it has something to do with the way your inner ear and eyesight are connected. For some people, as you move on the screen your eyes tell you that you are in motion but your inner ear/balance says you're not. Your brain doesn't quite know how to process this, so it thinks there's something wrong (like maybe you've been poisoned), and it makes you nauseous so you can eject whatever is causing it (skeever roadkill you ate for breakfast, weird blue glowy fungus, etc.)...

For me, having something moving near my computer helps a lot (tv on desk, fan over there, cat walking around). I can focus on that every few minutes and let my inner ear and vision reconnect.

It has a lot to do with field of view, too. I have to play a lot of games in a small window, as they take up too much of my peripheral vision full screen. I always adjust field of view to the maximum possible (in this game it defaults to 100 but you can bump that up to 130 in settings).

Oddly enough, the only thing that has made me dizzy/green in ESO, has been fishing. With having motion sickness issues, I know not to play video games in first person or watch other people play in first person. Seems to have worked for everything up until I started fishing.

In all seriousness though, keep asking for it and with enough support they will do smthg about it just like the Combat Cue changes they are bringing with horns if the reach.

I loathe bolt escape or whatever it's called. Funnily enough, when i used it myself I was unaffected, but if it's someone else I feel I'm on the cusp of having a fit (slight exaggeration). Hate it.

Try turning doing down spell effects, or overall quality?

Yes it should be a toggle probably. If you have the system to run and full settings you should be able to without getting sick, but in the mean time it might be your own option.

Thanks for the feedback! We understand that screen shake isn’t for everyone, and can cause motion sickness for some. To that end, we’ll work on adding a ‘Screen Shake’ slider to the Camera Settings menu.

Awesome, while I haven't really experienced it in Elderscrolls online... I only got 30 hours of playtime on skyrim, because the motion sickness was too bad.

To OP are you playing in first person or third person? Also have you tried scrolling out a bit. That seems to do it for me, so my brain spots believing I am trapped in the game :scream:

Now this is something I really love about Zeni - they take people's disabilities into consideration. I remember a deaf guy asking for subtitles - they added subtitles. Next update they've added colour and brightness sliders for the red circles as a result of colour-blind people asking.

This is definitely a Good Thing.

One thing that can help with Skyrim is ramping up the Field of View. Also ESO for that matter. With ESO, it's in the camera settings. With Skryim you need to edit the .ini file, as I recall (you can find tutorials for this online). Part of the issue is also that Skyrim (and other TES games) are primarily played in first person, while ESO strongly encourages (and plays better) in third. From what I recall, motion sickness from video games is more common in first person perspectives than in third person ones. Meaning, ESO is less likely to induce nausea, but it's still possible.
