Almalexia's Lantern (PTS Notes)

Just pointing out the following,
Mementos

Fixed an issue where the visual effects for several mementos would appear around your target instead of correctly appearing around you.
This affected the Twilight Shard, Box of Forbidden Relics, and Almalexia’s Enchanted Lantern.

Anyone else dissapointed they are removing effects that allowed you to interact with players from trophies?
Almalexia's Lantern is by far my favourite in the game because it lets you 'cast' the tiny light orb around whatever you point it at. (mobs, npcs, players), Go quick slot it and try it out before the patch goes live in a few weeks.

I don't quite understand it though, this seemed like everything BUT a bug. I would have thought they would have tried to make more trophies like it (jester event mudball/petals), not remove them..... I really dont understand this one.....

Granted this is not a big deal when compared to balance etc..., new content and so on. But then why even bother with something that was working fine anyway? O_o

I always hated it when it was casted on a spider.
It was tedious to point the mouse somewhere else so it won't target a creature/player/npc etc.
I asked for it to be fixed months ago and it got fixed.
I'm glad they fixed it! :)

I've actually used it while teaching newbies dungeons to point out specific enemies. There's not really an alternative, unless mudballs don't draw agro, but it doesn't work nearly as well as a beacon.

Dumb, so fix tiny, fun things that cause no issues whatsoever but leave crap in the game for over a year like the slow falling "feature" that traps me against a rock while I'm being attacked and unable to break the animation...
Now I can't cast my dwemer balls into people's hand without them knowing.

:( Haha, I'm really bummed out by this, I've never had issues with targeting, and the rare occasions where I did actually cast it on something else (and not on purpose), were of very little consequence.

Guess if its a bug, its a bug, but I've had so much fun with that little ball of lighting up stuff at random.... I'm going to seriously miss it if it gets 'fixed'. :(

@ZOS_GinaBruno , is there any hope ? Can we have any details on what exactly that fix entails? (Is it revertable before release? <3 )

It might not be the most popular poll, but from what I can see, it is (in this tiny sample) an overwhelming minority that see this as a bug and want it fixed...

I know... I've always thought it was, and how awesome they did that, and why they hadn't made more.

I know they've changed some before . (Root Sunder used to have a crazy animation with a large graphical AoE, and last times I've tried it, it barely gave me a green glow - maybe it was lag, or maybe THAT is a bug)

When you interact with it from the menu, it self casts. When you quickslot it, you can apply it to your target. This is true of the Lantern, Smoke Bomb, Twilight Shard, and a few others. Didn't know about the box of forbidden relics. Then again, I never ground the Dark Brotherhood dailies enough to unlock that.

Sometimes I were disappointed, when this lantern has casted around my target - not only around players, but also around monsters and even their dead bodies or interactible objects.
But generally I do not care - this patch bringing much worse stuff...

The one from DB that placed candles and a heart on the ground around the caster and the caster knelt and stabbed the heart is a clear indication that Zos did not intentionally change it so the effect appeared on a target vs the player. The caster still knelt down and did the animation but the objects appeared around the target making it look silly.

Glad they are changing it back.

Random question, off topic, I apologize.

Does anyone know which memento has the player holding a "glowing ball or spark" for lack of a better description in one hand and summoning with the other?

Did I miss out on this one?

Not sure, it might have always been when quick slotted like @starkerealm says.
I know for sure that ever since I unlocked it while doing Caldwell silver well over a year ago, I could cast it on people.

Tell you what, fix it if you must, but create a new memento that allows us to cast a light orb around whatever we point at.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I will say it again here. I love the memento the way it currently is on Live. Please don't change it. I can cast the light on myself, or if I want I can cast it on a stationary object, or if I get pelted with a mudball, I return the favor by casting Almalexia's Lantern (light) on them (LOL).

It actually has a lot of utility in its current (Live) form. It's a little quality of life item, a little luxury, it's just so darn handy and useful the way it is ... please don't nerf it ZOS!

For anyone who doesn't know, casting it (activating the memento) causes a small, glowing/transparent orb to float around wherever you choose (i.e., yourself, another player, an NPC, ... even a rock, etc.,) and it lasts about 20-30 seconds or so. The nerf would take away our ability to choose/target where the orb goes (meaning when the memento is activated, the orb would only float around the caster).

Still not really an equivalent. A glowing ball of light is about as "LOOK OVER HERE" as you can get, right behind using Finvir's blue beacon of attention and walking straight to the mob itself.

More people than you would imagine get very angry when another player can do something to their toons.

There was even a movement to make rapids affecting you a toggle. Although, that may be a bad example, some of those folks said they were old or sick, and when someone casted rapids they would crash into everything or constantly overshoot their mark.

I was really surprised when ZoS let the mudball thing last beyond the event. Not many people use it on random strangers, though.

It's interesting to see that all the small quirky and fun things on this game get 'fixed' while the things that actually need getting fixed remain broken forever. Where's my random dungeon reward from yesterday? That's right GF borked up and I got nothing.

Yes I admit casting the light on a rat is a bit annoying but just wait a few seconds, dwell on how silly you were for forgetting that detail for the umpteenth time, and recast it properly again.

And about the Twilight Shard, it's the second time it gets fixed. For me what made it awesome was the levitating effect. The light was just a nice extra. But because someone used that to exploit something, ZOS took the axe to yet another nice thing in the game instead of actually fixing the exploit itself. It doesn't look ominous or impressive anymore. It just says 'look at me I'm holding some Daedric prince's glowing danglies. Yay.' I don't bother using it anymore. It just looks stupid.

I've grown to not take anything fun and/or silly in this game for granted. If it amuses us, looks awesome, or is just a pleasant surprise you can be 100% sure someone is going to use it to exploit some semi broken aspect of the game, therefore getting that fun detail removed instead of the exploit fixed. Either that or ZOS will just decide players aren't allowed to have a bit of extra enjoyment outside farming or grinding, and remove the quirk for no reason anyway.

You took what I said too literally....

Random crab = any npc that I didn't notice when I casted the light.
