Forums is 1% of Games Population

We read it all the time in debates about the community "the forums is the vocal minority in the community" but just what kind of a minority is that?

Well if we take ZOS numbers from E3 2017 stating the game has 10 million accounts, then look at the First Comment badge on the forums we can see (at time of posting) only 133,604 have the badge.

So if you're going to base the forums vocal minority around just one comment then the forums population is 1.3% of the rough number of people who have purchased ESO. If expanded to people who have bothered to make 10 Comments (31,398) making them 0.31% of the number of people who have purchased the game.

The more you look into the number of people who are likely to be the ones posting often enough to have issues noticed by ZOS then the numbers get even more silly.

100 Comments 6,334 meaning 0.063%
500 Comments 1,611 meaning 0.016%
1,000 Comments 760 meaning 0.0076%
2,500 Comments 196 meaning 0.0019%
5,000 Comments 42 meaning 0.00041%
10,000 Comments 6 meaning 0.000059%

Now of course I am being a moron and the game is very unlikely to have 10 million active players, but without ZOS giving out actual PCU numbers we'll never know the true value of the forums minority. This is just something I stumbled on the other day and figured it was worth making a trashy post about.

Also because a Turelus thread would be complete without some kind of self ego inflation, this post was bought to you by a member of the 0.000059% #GoingFor50k

3 Million people quit after 1000 runs of vma/xxx trial and still not getting their desired item

1 Million competetive people who wants the game to be better and criticise ZOS about their failures and trying to get their voice heard on forums.

But like any sample size when gathering data you can assume that the views expressed here represent the views of a much larger segment of the population than voice opinions on these forums. And judging by the posts here I'd say we have a good range of user types from streamers and top players to people who couldn't care less about balance or who procs what, and are still working their way through the main game and only intend to ever play it solo.

It's probably more like < 300K people who have done any competitive content across al platforms. And I'm being optimistic here. Most people who purchased probably play a few hours a week, just doing quests and exploring a bit.

I am not sure if these stats still hold true, a few years back can't remember which company, it was an article in PC Gamer Magazine but they claim after account creation less than 10% of the active player base used the forums, I personally know at least 5 of my guildies that never read or use the forums at all, mostly because they do not want their view of the game tainted by the toxic posts they seen in past games in the forums, I know times and habits of players change so who knows

It's a true sign you've transcended to a real forums trash poster.

I've been moderated and had official warnings, though they were long ago now.

I over time learnt where the line between being a goof and a troll and being a jerk was (not saying you're a jerk) so I can get away with a lot of critical and heavily debate based posts without being moderated too much now.

I still get stuff cut when they go on mass thread cleaning though, mostly because I jump into all the fun debates.

People that claim that some views in forums reflect the majority of players are not very bright.
Or that some posts don't speak on behalf of the population.
Nobody can claim that they can convey what people want or what people don't want.

Hopefully ZOS is using opinions expressed in forums to fix oversights, or they happen to stumble upon some feedback from a player that is useful for the development of the game.

I find that the most influential players are those on beta testing.
Too bad that they don't represent the majority.

From what I have seen and what's been said ZOS takes its feedback from vaious locations, common threads here, Reddit, social media as well as speaking to players face to face at cons.
They've also hinted at before that they take a good look at their data gathering, I know Wrobel and Rich have spoken about how they can see the popularity of skills slotted/used, and how when they look at unpopular ones they also check to see if it's a niche skill which is working find just not used a lot before changing it to try and force it to be popular.

We also know that Rich and Brian PvP on NA servers so see a lot of the issues we do and know where we're coming from.

Feedback from users with beta or early access seems to be so/so, as both Alcast and Deltia came out and said that their pre-Morrowind feedback wasn't entirely listened to or was changed more than they suggested.

This post of your gave me a headache.. too many numbers! Are you a mathematician or a statistician or something? If there are 10 mil accounts on ESO, I wonder what is the true numbers of actual active gamers from that number. Also, since you claim that only 1% of the gamer population of ESO are using the forum (which doesn't seem far-fetched), then my guess is probably 50% of this one percentile of forum goers are actual sane and mature posters, while the other 50% are trolls, whiners and those who are just bored and not really making any constructive feedback or comments. Thus, elaborating further, it may seems that maybe 5-10% (I don't know.. don't ask where I have gotten these numbers. I'm just making a conversation piece) are reporting problems and bugs. Thus, such very low percentage from the 1% are reporting the issues, and such low numbers are probably not evening pinging ZOS's radar.. which could explain why so many issues and bugs have been continuing or reoccurring for a long time now.

    Yield
    Makes 12 muffins

    Ingredients

    2 cups white flour
    1 tablespoon baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 egg, slightly beaten
    1 cup milk
    1/4 cup melted butter

    Preparation

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Butter muffin pans. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add the egg, milk, and butter, stirring only enough to dampen the flour; the batter should not be smooth. Spoon into the muffin pans, filling each cup about two-thirds full. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes each.

    Blueberry Muffins.
Use 1/2 cup sugar. Reserve 1/4 cup of the flour, sprinkle it over 1 cup blueberries, and stir them into the batter last.

    Pecan Muffins.
Use 1/4 cup sugar. Add 1/2 cup chopped pecans to the batter. After filling the cups, sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and more chopped nuts.

    Whole-Wheat Muffins.
Use 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour and 1 cup white flour.

    Date or Raisin Muffins.
Add 1/2 cup chopped pitted dates or 1/3 cup raisins to the batter.

    Bacon Muffins.
Add 3 strips bacon, fried crisp and crumbled, to the batter.
