Wow, I didn't really recall seeing a banner, but today, just a few minutes ago I hit this site, and some sort of banner showed up along the bottom of the screen. I hit "dismiss" without really registering it as anything other than an annoying popup.

Come to think of it I may have seen it before. Maybe. Not really sure.

Anyway, I have to say that for me - yet another annoying popup, hit appropriate key to get rid of it - that was all the impact it had on me.

PS I love you Santie Claws

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

It's something we're trying out to increase visibility for in-game events, important promotions/sales, and such. Please give us your honest (but constructive) feedback!

Saw the post for the event on Instagram. I Couldn't click on the link in the post so I came to elderscrollsonline.com to find information. It was a nice surprise to have a popup with a link to the exact information I wanted.

To be honest though, and I do need to step outside of the functionality of the popup itself, the direction of excessive micro-transactions that ZoS has taken ESO over the past year-plus makes this new pop-up feature come across as another way to try and get players to spend more money. This time it helped me out, but what about the next time I come to the website to do something simple and I get a popup trying to sell me something? Will this happen every time I visit the site? This is easily want the popup feature will devolve into. I already pre-purchased the Imperial Edition, I've bought crowns and ESO+ memberships, and pre-purchased the physical Collector's Edition, and I plan on spending more money on this game; I don't need to be sold on anything else. So this popup feature is either a sign that ZoS is losing money on ESO (doubtful) and needs to push more sales, or the marketing division needed to do something to show the higher ups they're actually doing something. Either way, it's getting to the point where nearly every aspect of ESO is being monetized, and now we're going to get popups to shove it in our faces that we should spend more money? Don't advertise to us, give our wallets a break, give back to the players*, and you will have players still with you at the 10 year anniversary.

Now to try and figure out some sweet words to garner some sympathy from ZoS because this daily player is on vacation while the daily event is going on...

*You literally make a digital item, put it in a game and then that's it. There is no cost for reproducing any item.

Drug dealers give the first hit for free as well. Is that ok as well?
Next thing you know, opening crown crates will lead to gang violence, prostitution and murder! :o 'Cause, ya know, it's totally comparable to drug dealing.

*EDIT* Because I know someone is now going to jump on to scream "Drug dealing doesn't lead to those things! My buddy who deals pot totally wouldn't kill someone!" My point was that comparing crown crates to drug dealing is idiotic. Don't start a lengthy response about what drug dealing actually leads to, because it's stupidly off-topic, OK? We're talking about ESO here, not dealing heroin on the street. This is not the heroin forum. (And yes, I was thinking about heroin dealers when I wrote that, not some college kid selling pot to his friends.)

LOL seriously, drug dealers don't give away drugs for free.... I dare you to go ask a dealer for a free taste!

And to the "it's encouraging gambling" crowd, opening a crown crate won't turn you into a serial gambler... unless you are weak, and if that's the case you really shouldn't be anywhere near the internet!

This is marketing, nothing more.. if u buy a bottle of coke and get another free do u go complain on their forums cos they are making you fat?!
The nerd rage on these forums is embarrassing. ZOS are giving you all a freebie, enjoy and move on.. after the event it's as you were! personally I have no issue TY ZOS

Rewarding the loyalty of ESO plus subscribers should be something done every 1-3 months. I remember that subscribers used to get loyalty rewards, before ESO plus existed. Things like the Striped Senche Tiger mount, the Dwarven Sphere pet, the Ice Wraith pet, etc. This free crate thing is a step in the right direction to getting back to that, but I am pretty sure the main reason for this event is to try to bring more people into ESO plus subscriptions by waving the benefits around in a trial period. This is actually a smart way of doing both.

@brandonv516 from my understanding you ONLY get crates if you pay for a sub and are an active paid ESO+ during the event. The free ESO+ won't grant you crates.

I read that if you log in each day during the event, and AFTERWARDS you upgrade to plus you still get the crates.

Hmm wait it's worded in a way that you can't actually tell, here is the text:

"If you are not an ESO Plus member, you can enjoy a free trial of the service for the duration of the event to see what it is all about. For more details, see below. If you decide to purchase a full ESO Plus membership, you still earn free Crown Crates for each day you are logged in as a member!"

And calling a pop up cheesy while you roleplay a khajiit on every post? LOL

Says the rude wannabe-edgelord whose forum name is a character from A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones.

(Sorry--it was just TOO easy!...says the one whose forum name is just a random mishmash of things she likes.)

Yes taking a name from a character you like is very edgy indeed. I don't think you know what the word means. Don't get so triggered because I offended your cheesy lover. :)

Please tell me how. There is no option to delete collectibles like hats or costumes. Trophies end up in your inventory and you can sell or delete them. Collectibles are NOT in your inventory, they are either set to active, or not. There is no way to delete them that I can see. I've tried.

You can't get rid of collectibles, apparently.

I really like the idea. From a marketing pov I imagine ZOS will definitely be getting new subscribers – once I got the crafting bag I never went back. Even with the other disappointments in the game and with the sub, the crafting bag makes it worth it to me. I hate the idea of crown crates and, like many, many others have said, would be happy if they were obliterated from the game completely. However, they're free this time, so I'm not complaining. Would have been happier if this had happened when there was actually stuff in the crates I wanted (not a fan of Dwemer), but again, they're free, so no biggie. I can only hope I'll get enough repeats that I can make some gems.

I know this isn't what was asked, but since this is quite a prevalent thread I think my comments here might actually be seen by a mod (unlike my newbie threads), so I'd like to add that I think ZOS would make a lot more money if they just sold things normally in the crown store. I know I for one would buy a lot of what is in the various crown crates if I could just buy it without having to gamble. Since that isn't an option, I don't buy a single crown crate = less money from me. While I am only one player and don't make much difference, I've seen enough complaints from others about these crates that I know I am not the only person thinking this way.I really hope ZOS will take all our voices into account, one day.

The banner didn't bother me at all. I definitely preferred it to the in-game pop-ups you get about crown items. I liked that it was large too, as I'm the sort who generally misses events like this. Plus, I'm still learning how this forum even works, so if it had appeared elsewhere and wasn't an “in your face” thing, I probably would have missed it. As long as it doesn't became a constant thing, I'm okay with it.

As a few others stated, I'm more concerned with having to enter a verification code every single time I sign in. “Thank you, we'll remember your login from this device now” blah blah (something along those lines) and yet the site never remembers that I've logged in on this device before. :| That this is, in fact, my only device.

this is really nice of Zos to "Give" "Free stuff" they must have a new mount that cost as much as the hole game coming out again. Don't get me wrong thank you Zos for the crates that will 99% chance of nix hound and poison or food and drink that's not as good as I can craft myself.

This is the first time I've seen it though, if it gets used too much for things like sales the effectiveness will be diluted.

Oh please shut up about the "addictive personality" bull. I buy crown crates and have never been addicted to anything in my life. I don't gamble. I don't do drugs, drink or smoke cigarettes. My only addiction is coffee. You're helping to spread some stupid demeaning lie that people who buy crates must have "addictive personalities" when it just isn't true. Stop it.

*EDIT* The coffee thing was an exaggeration to make a point. Calm down, oh great unwashed neck-beards who want to jump all over the fact I said I was "addicted to coffee." How come the flawless working thing in the game is the crown store, but we can't get a functioning playable game (lag, disconnects, broken group/battleground queues, ridiculously long queues into cyrodiil). Whose idea was it to remove CP from PvP. The community didn't demand it. Because of the removal of CP, one server has 1 hour queue times and BGs are a proc fest.

I am extremely disappointed that basic things that everyone should expect as standard is not addressed in a timely manner and knowingly defective product is sold before it's completed.

Doesn't ZOS make more money with selling more subs and chapters? Whose gonna keep buying the product if it's unplayable? These issues are killing the game. You either can't play or when it does work, the game is not fun. We've been very patient with waiting for stuff to get fixed.

Instead of crown crates, we should get game time added to our accounts, not cosmetic stuff that doesn't compensate for not being able to play the actual game.
