Free crown crates via ESO+

I like the banner for the most part. I think it could use a little color to draw the eye better and branding to pull it all together a little better though. Its a great idea, but I think it could visually be a little better. Its kind of generic looking. Which is going to lead to at least some people thinking that it is not legit.

I should probably have written this before reading all the other feedback, but I will endeavor to provide my initial reactions:

Banner -- very nice. Didn't even occur to me it might be a third party hack (probably should have, I'm generally cautious about that sort of thing -- guess it fit in well enough to the site on FireFox that it looked real to me). Normally it's really hard to find out about things like this event. Even the launcher's pointer to new articles has stickies at the top that make it difficult to spot actual new entries. Generally I have to hope there's enough of a general forums discussion thread to catch my eye so I can then look up the relevant blog. The timing is also good; I can probably still remember on Wednesday that the event is happening, thanks to the couple of days' notice.

Free Crates -- I'm cool with this. I bought one Crate the first day they came out, to see what was involved, and haven't spent my crowns on any Crates since. Gifts and freebies are the only way I'm getting more of them, so yay for bonus goodies I wouldn't have had without this event. (Based on the discussion in this thread, I do have some concern for others with less willpower than myself. But I'm not the boss of them).

Free ESO+ Trial -- This could get people hooked on the benefits. While some might then elect to subscribe to keep them, others might get a sour taste when the trial is over and they have to go back to spending huge hunks of time on inventory management and just stop playing. ZeniMax's call on that. Me, I've been subbed since launch and will stay subbed until I'm flat out not playing the game (or until my friend leaves his employment at Zeni, but I enjoy the game enough to stick with it regardless). I'm still flagging the post to all my friends so they know that they have a shot at dyeing the heck out of their costumes this week.

Overall I felt pleasantly surprised and pleased by this use of the popup. I agree with what others have said, though: if it turns into a constant advertising barrage (especially from third parties) I will be far less pleased.

This is great news. These kind of events give players, especially ESO+ members a feeling that developers care about the subscribers and players and want to offer something extra to them, as it should be. I personally think that there should be more events like this in the future. And maybe at some point, eso team might consider bringing back the montly subscriber rewards, like it used to be in the past.

I don't think it shows any concern for ESO+ members. The crown crates are their way of avoiding tacking on a few extra free sub days to subbers while giving everyone else free days. Instead, they give digital content that costs them nothing. One could argue that they could lose revenue as people get the mounts they want in free crates and no longer buy the crates, but I would argue that people interested in crate contents already threw their money at ZOS bought their crates to hunt for the drops they wanted.

Yup it hooked me in as well. I play on PC now. Tried to play on my Xbox One and stopped playing right away with no crafting bag. First time I tried to pick up a plant or stones said my inventory was full. So I quit and went back to my PC LOL.

Well to be fair if people who didn't Sub was getting ESO+ for free and the crown crates, that would be a bit unfair for us who are subbing. So I can see why it's done this way. Also if you are not going to sub, why should you get 5 free crates?

It is obviously a fabrication. They would not have 14 devs in the world where that happened.

Edit: I also know why I did not see the forum banner. They are using javascript from optnmstr.com, which NoScript blocks for me.

If it's part of the site code it won't be flagged as advertising as it's not add space. It's just some website code to make something pop up.

That's my limited newbie understanding of how things work.

I have noscript blocking the google (and other) spyware that tries to run on this site and haven't seen the pop-up. A quick bit of testing shows that it's the script being run by optnmstr.com that's actually displaying the ad. It took a bit of digging but I confirmed that this site is spyware (shocking!) that provides statistics to their customers, such as ZOS.

For those who pre-emptively expressed concern in this thread about this kind of advertising becoming a thing, or if you just want to try and take back a tiny sliver of privacy, install noscript in your browser and learn how to use it!

So wait, signing up for a 30 days membership will cost you ~$14 and you get +1500 crowns and those 5 crown crates if you log in each day during the event. Seems like a bargain. Guess what I just did

The promotional popup on the browser is awesome, I wouldn't had noticed it if it weren't for the popup.

A nice feature. I don't really go to the main site unless an expansion or other big update is coming, so good to know about in-game events via the popup. I do have to agree though, it was a little too big on PC browser. A popup in the corner, or maybe a banner at the top of the main forums page (for those that run ad blockers) would be preferred.

One of the biggest bonuses of all you can now pack all you crafting stuff into your crafting bag. And it will stay there when your sub runs out. Potentially freeing up a large amount of space.

Did not get a pop-up, and don't usually see anything until 24 hours after it's released.

My first thought was "uh, is this to say 'sorry for the really crappy loot table this time'?" Because it's an insult if so. Bought a few more crates with extra crowns - got a Dwarven sphere in all of them, in fact, all 4 were almost identical in loot.

I've been a plus member for a long time, but I'm not sure a trial will get the holdouts to subscribe. PLUS is definitely worth the cost, but right now I think those that don't subscribe do so from a mentality of "all things should be free!"

Well, it caught my eye and made me decide that now was the time to re-up my sub though I don't know how long I will stay subbed. The crates made me decide to pay so I could get some crowns for the gown and maybe a Vvardvark (they are so cute). I am low on previously purchased crowns so I won't pay a lot but... I do want access to the crafting bag and the dye station for costumes as well.

I liked the banner/pop-up - though I could have sworn I was browsing on "Eso Fashion" sites pages with the forum hidden on another page beneath it when the banner popped, so for a second I was "can I trust this", then decided to trust it - and Im very untrusty with pop-ups, and use addblocker. ( Could be it was actually forum that was open on top and not eso Fashion- had just minimized the game during load screen so the 1st thing I noticed was the banner )
I like, cause have missed (or allmost missed if not for nice peeps telling about them on the forum) some crown sales before, hope you will use this pop-up when there are sales.

And I admit, despite not being happy of how crown crates work in ESO = items retiring to boxes, too many non- apex exlusives made for just these boxes , I cant help but feel quite happy for the 5 free crates for subs. Despite negative feels of how the crates are currently designed, I take this as a fun gift for me and fun event, very nice for non subs also to try DLC and subbing out- though indeed the biggest "addiction" danger I see is getting hooked on subbing, I know I am .

I like the banner in general as a way to notify us of upcoming events. I would not like it used as an advertising tool. Notification = fine. Advertising = not fine. I'm a little leery of clicking on pop-ups though, so if there were some way to guarantee it was actually from you, that would make me feel a lot better about it.

It was a nice surprise to see the banner this morning when I reached the ESO Forum page. I just pressed on the learn more button and an even nicer surprise was waiting for us ESO+ subscribers. I'll get and use my 5 free crates since it is the only way I will get them. Thanks Zenimax for the nice free gift.

I honestly love this idea, it gives more meaning to having ESO plus and hopefully sales will increase as well. Tell your marking department I'm proud of them, just this once.

I also hope when I login tonight that eso plus isnt automatically active on every account.. i just spent a few hours cleaning out my crafting bag.. if it all magically reappears in my crafting bag I wont be happy lol.

Banner was good, was a bit high if i should complain.

Regarding visibility how about making the dungeon , cyrodil and battleground request for enter more visible.
They are easy to miss if in menus or questing.

I think the aspect they are testing is the effectiveness of informing us of an event which is why they are asking for feedback.

The effect of the event itself will be told in how many existing non subs start a sub.

I think it's loud, but not intrusive. It's good way to show communication in this situation.

I'll voice my two-cents on the banner pop-up... I liked it and may have missed it otherwise. I'd like to see this also for Crown sales instead of having to wait for 'word of mouth' on the forums.

People that are complaining about the pop-ups... you really need to learn how to, "don't sweat the small stuff".

is that free crates event some kind of apologies for not baned hordes of boters , playing exploiters or broken content like grouping tool?

i did receive mail with eso + free crates event , in game popup and forum popup banner (to big even on 4K resolution, it could be half of that height)

adblocker(s) killed the banner and the popup, but i'd already learned about the event from the eso online website.
