I like it. One of my complaints in the past was a lack of communicating events so this is a step in the right direction.

Would still have liked to have known a week ago and not on the day it starts though.

Yes, I saw the banner popup for this event and followed it to the Event writeup. While there I had a look at the July Showcase and btw love the new costumes.

This banner method will most certainly provide what it was intended to. Good job!

Temporary free access to ESO + will give players a taste of the benefits. Very worthwhile imho.

Also, thank you for the Event's 5 free crates per existing ESO Plus account. Looking forward to those.

if its a one off then OK no problems (although personally I would never buy a crate)

What I don't want to happen is it end up like Lotro where you have an effective gambling pop up every time you log in, each day giving you a chance to win stuff.

Sure you get free stuff each day on Lotro (usually useless), but I play for immersion etc, not to play a daily casino.

To participate, simply log into the game with an active ESO Plus membership between 12:00am EDT and 11:59pm EDT (Eastern)" - these times are gmt+4 so would be 4am gmt or 5am bst and then run till that time the next day - 5:00 BST to 4:59 BST the next day.

Unbelievable. I feel sorry for ZOS staff after reading this.

I thought the banner was fine. I likely would have missed the announcement and found out after it started had it not been for the banner. Good work there!

To the self entitled players on here who somehow find a way to *** about being given free stuff - please go away. You turned what should have been a positive thread into a horrible thread.

crates are only gambling if you buy crowns for the express purpose of buying crates. And if you are old enough for a credit card, you are old enough to take responsibility for your actions. If you cant do that here, you need to find something less tempting to do with your time. And if you play, the temptation is always there. This event doesnt rub it in your face, or force you to do anything you dont want to do. Instead of buying crowns, sub. you get crowns for free so to speak. Now its not gambling because your sub is for other things and crowns are a bonus. You just get free random rewards.

If you are so against gambling, why do you play a game that has a function you consider to be gambling?

I see this as a marketing tool for getting subscribers. Being honest, the benefit for non subs here far outweighs the benefits for those who already do. FYI, im cool with that. They wanted to give us something, so they did. Thank you ZOS.

"im being penalized because i have a job and cant login every day". many people have jobs, and they can login every day. if you cant, thats a function to do with your specific job. if you dislike it, find a new one. Dont blame a game developer for your chosen profession. Whats next? i went on holidays. im being penalized for going overseas?

I think if ZOS wants to give ESO+ members a "not pay to win perk" then give us an actual pet/mount like they did for the loyalty rewards...not gambling crates (I do not approve of trying to tempt people by giving them a "free fix")

I will take the 'free Crates' for what they are worth.
Feel free to prove me wrong but the free crate that I got with Morrowind contained junk.

I refuse to pay real Crowns for Crates as this is just a gambling cash cow.

I'm not seduced, Jessica, and I'll tell you why. When I pre-ordered Morrowind, I got a free crown crate.

Yet I, and others I know, received DUD CRATES. So no, I will decline to waste my time on the possibility of five free crown crates. The 130+ days I have remaining of ESO plus, they'll stay unused. I'M NOT GOING TO KICK THE FOOTBALL, LUCY.

I really liked the popup and think it was a good idea. ZOS needs to get better at promoting their amazing game.

I like the free crates and LOVE the 5 free days but noooooooooooooooo I am away on holiday and will miss it. This would be my one chance for my alt account to decorate my home, dye my outfits, get set gear from the DLC dungeons, clear my bank etc and I am away on holiday and will miss it.

@CMFan1966 (or anyone else wanting to answer) would you consider announcing the sale of limited time items in the Crown Store advertising? As in how would you feel about if ZOS used them to promote crown store items as a one time pop-up?

Also when the next Crowns sale happens this banner will help get that over to a lot of people who normally don't realise.

Log in every day events are fun. Some get rewarded for what they do anyway, others might just log in and stay. Win, win.
As far as the pop up goes, a one time or every once in awhile thing isn't a bad idea. If it gets too intrusive, though, people will get turned off reallllly fast.

Quite simply, because I was here first.

The crown crates were added on December 1 2016. I was here in PC early access on March 30th 2014.

Comparing the time periods, Crown Crates are what I can only hope to be a short-lived episode. I don't like their mechanics and, more importantly, I don't like what they represent. The idea that ZOS is more interested in making money out of bad RNG than good content.

By the end of this event I will have six crown crates in total. All freebies. I will not open a single one.

You say we shouldn't complain about being given free stuff? ZOS has given me something I strongly dislike and fundamentally oppose. You really expect me to be pleased with that? The game is good enough for me to stay, there is no requirement that I should laud, or even agree with, ZOS's actions while I do so.

Honest opinion? This is criticism not suppose to be a negative comment. First thing I thought of is this is like a drug dealer giving a "free sample". You take it and you are hooked. By that I mean it's gambling. A rose by any other name still smells as sweet. So getting a free sample and for someone who got caught up in a casino with the gambling bug and loosing all their money, it's a little immorale thing to do.

I did end up buying the 5000 crowns worth after CAREFULLY waying in my decision to see if it was worth it for me or not. I can really see where people will go over board.

Great thing is, that nothing is PAY TO WIN so is really Not Needed, but nice to have.

So for my constructive criticism I guess from my post, I don't know what really these crates are. So a better explanation is needed to FULLY EXPLAIN what the crates are for.

Some people would complain if ZoS paid their subscription fee for them. They would think there is another alternative !

There should be a way for someone to opt out of the "free" stuff you don't want. I looked at what is going to be available in the crown store this month [at least 4 items I intend to buy] and all the items available in the clown crates.

New items for this month's crown store: Naryu's Morag Tong Costume, "Buoyant Gentility" Ensemble, Seyda Neen Jodhpur Ensemble, Crown Crafting Motif: Ra Gada Style, Nightfall Sabre Cat, Vvardvark, Adorable Assassin hairstyle, Midyear Mayhem Crowns, Warrior-Poet Tattoos, and the "Brassy Assassin" personality.

Is it my imagination, or is more and more new stuff ending up in the clown crates? Even if you take out all the Dwarven/Dwarf/Dwemeri items that should be in the Dwarven themed crates, the clown crates are getting the majority of the new items. The old items that were offered for sale outright in the crown store are now in the crates, why? Either people missed the chance to buy them outright, or people didn't like the items enough to buy them outright. So now they're in the clown crates, can't be traded, and can't be deleted from your collection.

I would have bought the wolf, and the motifs [more than one crafter]. Locked in the rngesus crates, I won't attempt to get the specific items I actually want. I would have to spend an insane amount of crowns to get the specific items I want, with a large number of items I don't like, don't want, and would never pay for ending up in my collections.

If there are only a few items you wish for then the more items there are in the potential crate inventory the less chance you have of getting the item you want.

So more crates you buy perhaps to get the hat of your dreams?

People posted the math to show if you wanted a specific apex item, if you bought X number of crates [think it was $100.00 worth] you could accumulate enough gems to buy the specific apex reward you wanted if you didn't get it from a crate. This new iteration that is no longer true. There are specific items you can't buy with gems, so pray to rngesus you'll get the specific item you want.

The really sad thing for ZOS is that it isn't the apex rewards I'm interested in from the crates. I'd like to buy the not themed lower tier rewards like the black mane lion and the gorne wolf. It would be possible for me to buy with gems the items I want without needing thousands of crates thanks to all the "consumable" items that are the only guaranteed contents in the crates. However, the other issue for me is all the items/junk I don't want and wouldn't have paid for in the first place stuck in my collections forever. So I don't spend the crowns I would have to buy the lion and wolf because they were in the crates...

Its also a catch 22; if you don't have all the junk in your collections you won't get gems for duplicates, so you have to accumulate junk you don't want to get gems to buy items you do.... I'm not going there.
