As Jessica explained earlier today, they are testing a new method to announce events in the forums. It is not really advertising and it is just once per browser. Though I do wish it was smaller on mobile.

Its advertising the event. You can try and create some alternative facts so you can get around that. But it is ADVERTISING. And Ive heard this "once per" nonsense before. We were told the advertising in game would be once but it has become something that constantly pops up even when theres nothing new in the store. Id prefer that this site avoids the crappy pop ups. Its cheap and obnoxious.

Well, if you feel so strongly please post on the thread where Jessica asked for constructive feedback.

They once did in-game announcements for a crown store item and they learned quickly to not do that again. I think if they time down this on screen pop-up a little bit it is fine for me. And the crown store announcements only happen at login.

Totally! A one time pop-up that shows you info about an event that gives you free stuff is almost inconceivable. I mean come on, it took me like an entire 2 seconds to close it! That's an entire two seconds of my life that I'll never get back.

I have some bad news for you. Probably took you 11-14 seconds to type that unless you type like me then maybe a whole minute. You're not getting that time back either...

I for one would have had no idea about the event without the pop up.....

Perfectly happy with this sort of advertising! :)

Edit:- It also allowed me to inform my Guildies many of whom do not use the forums :)

... add nothing to the discussion ...

That presumes this is even a discussion.

Advertising an in-game event on an online game's website and forum seems pretty reasonable.

I thought advertising was using gimmicks to make you buy something. This was more of an announcement indicating they were going to do something. And I don't have to do anything any different than I do any other day to collect the rewards. I kinda like it. :)

Is a billboard a gimmick? Advertisements arent always complicated or gimmicky.

I dont have a problem with them advertising to the playerbase. I have a problem with obnoxious approaches to advertising. I seek out their advertisements with twitter and their websites home page. But I dont come to the forums for advertisements. I come here for discussions and debate. Just like I dont log into the game for advertisements I log in to play.

Some people may appreciate the adverts. I simply do not. But maybe thats because I see pop ups in game and here in the same vein as websites that litter your screen with popups when all you want to do is read an article.

The pop up is how I found out about the event honestly, and guess what once I clicked the do not show again option is has not popped up again. People need to honestly stop with the constant complaints over any little thing. It grows annoying after so long, if you want to complain then complain about some of the broken things within the game.

This, hence the sarcastic comment I made above. The "advertisement" is simply a quick announcement to tell people about a free event. It didn't break any game content or waste an hour, or even a minute, of anyone's time. There isn't any good reason to get all worked up over it.

I wasn't bothered by it at all. It was nice, I learned about the upcoming event, and then when I clicked it, it went away. I'd be annoyed if they were constantly spamming and pushing cash shop items and crates, but finding out about a giveaway or holiday events on their website is completely understandable. I hope they keep it up.

It's amazing how people whine about the simplest things, apparently they've never heard the saying, "Don't sweat the small stuff"... and like many others have noted, I would not have been aware of the event without the pop-up... too bad they wouldn't do the same thing when they had a Crown sale, instead of having to wait for word of mouth to announce it.

So sure, I'm all for the POP UPS when it comes to announcing events like this.

Its amazing how some people will shrug off any sort of criticism lobbied against their favorite company as "whining" so they dont have to actually tackle the discussion.

Personally I found it a little large and would rather a smaller box just down to one side, but the pop-up being there didn't really bother me. I also have the joy of seeing it every time I sign in from the office (private browsing mode) and can't say I get too mad.

It was a good way to announce the event and I can see ZOS using it for a lot of stuff like Crown Sale announcements, new in game events etc. probably limited time crown store items as well I guess?

I mean as long as I don't see a new banner every time I log in, or it doesn't become something which is just pushing "buy now!" on me every refresh I can shrug it off.

I actually found out about the event hours before with twitter. Which I do use to stay up to date with things. Anything that lands on the forums is almost always old information or somehow inaccurate.

And no. I wouldnt be mad because the event isnt really an event. Anyone logging in this long after the release of Morrowind is likely a regular player that logs daily anyway. Which Im willing to bet are also the type that subs anyway. And since its a known fact that the forums is also not a large portion of the community, are usually the regulars that play the game not just daily but for many more hours than casuals that come and go. Those here, or at least the majority would not have missed it anyway because theyd be logging anyway. If the forums is your go to place for information. Youre either not that interested in news about the game or youre confused about how to actually seek out where to get that news.

Its advertising the event. You can try and create some alternative facts so you can get around that.

Steady on, Kelly-Ann. Use noscript (or something similar) to block optnmstr.com and you'll not see the message.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".
