I don't think it really got off the ground.

They simply overpriced housing so egregiously, that few people are even ABLE to indulge in it to any degree. Beyond the cost of the houses, the cost of the furnishings. That kind of keeps the Roleplayers from doing anything with the houses (Roleplayers tend to have little ingame cash, so they're forced to use REAL money... and as mentioned the houses are stupidly expensive).

Of course, there isn't anything to DO in the houses, which makes the adventurers less interested in the housing.

Housing is something that a lot of people might have greatly enjoyed, that could have enriched the game in many ways. Instead, it was implemented as a cash grab with no real game value. I hate being right all the time, but I predicted this sort of thing would happen when they implemented the microtransaction model. Welcome to the new world of "gaming."

    I disagree.

I think housing took off and exceeded any and all projections the company predicted. I think it has overwhelmed them, which has led to development related inner office arguments...mayhap even a power struggle here and there as one department has pulled in massive amounts of money.

I think there were thousands of players like me who are at that place in life where we can spend money on a hobby. I used to do wood working, I used to be into saltwater aquariums. I used to own a horse. Spending ~$300/month on eso may seem absurd to people, but even spending that, or more, it's still the cheapest hobby I've ever had. I've spent more money on this game the past 3 months than I've spent on all my in game app purchases from all games I've ever played added up together.

And I'm not the only one. I don't even think I'm a minority.

That's likely why they haven't responded or commented to any of the hundreds of posts complaining about housing. They can't comment because they aren't allowed to. The people in charge haven't picked which direction they are taking things. They are trying to readjust their business plan.

This is all just a silly hypothetical thought though. It's what I tell myself to sleep at night. I pray for the day when they at least double the #max furnishings. Lol

I'm still hoarding all my mats so I can actually properly decorate my house. The grind is huge if you want to craft your own stuff, along with terrible drop rate on mats (when just playing and not specifically farming) I think deters a lot of people from even starting.

This is me. I'm PvP'ing to get my resto skills back on my hybrid (almost to 350 skill points) so I'll just keep looting and thieving when I pve until I have a majority of recipies to make stuff. Don't see the point in spending in game money when I can just get things over time for free. Especially with housing missing a lot of key features and having a low item count.

I actually never saw the point in housing. It doesn't offer teleports and buffs like guild houses do in other mmorpgs. It doesn't do anything that properties do in other games.

What do people do with housing?

It's for people who play RPGs to immerse themselves in another world and to role-play, as well as people who like customization and collection. Not everyone is into that sort of thing, of course, but a lot of people are.
No one is saying there aren't multiple interpretations of the lore, and we're not arguing that ESO did it "wrong".

We're arguing that they decided to go for the most boring, mundane, seen-before interpretation possible. Like they almost always do, unless they can ride on the coat-tails of past games.

Is there an add-on for that? Wow I didn't know. I'm pc.

I believe when you are in the furnishing section at a crafting table you can press 't' to preview that item. You don't need an addon for this function.

Love the housing, intensely dislike the very limited space; I'm constantly caught between, should I build something (like a ramp to the second floor back balcony), plant a flower garden (not able to use the actual alchemy ingredients to do so--lol), OR set the table in the dining room.

They could double the space by having the limit apply to inside/outside separately.

And want to build an oven, please. The load screen for Hunding's taunts every time.

Yeah, I'm avoiding building structures because they use so many item slots, even to do something simple like stairs. You can decorate an entire area to a decent degree or you can build stairs to access an extra area, like hundings roof, and then have to decorate that space too.

I'm sure there are others like you, but I suspect you're the exception, not the rule. No one I know can possibly spend $300 a month on ANY kind of entertainment. That's more than I spend in a month to FEED myself. It's not a trivial amount of money.

What's the point of buying houses when ZOS keeps changing the way they look on a whim?

Housing was never going to appeal to everyone, just like not everyone likes PVP, some dislike PVE - different things appeal to different people.

I bought a stack of houses only because I could. I have my crafting stations and test dummy in one and use several of them as free wayshrines when I am in the middle of nowhere. I did a bit of decorating in my main house, but not much and all of my other houses are still empty.

Storage would make a huge difference for me but that would cost ZOS. I would then no longer need the craft bag or extra bank spaces, so would be able to do without ESO+ permanently. I dare say a lot of other people would be in the same boat.

I've been a housing addict but I don't need to buy mats or items. I'm just slowly filling my houses in between doing other things. With the limited capacity it's very difficult to go crazy.

I would have preferred the limitation of only having 1 house at a time if they changed the capacity. Instead in have 5 houses but only 1 people can see. And it's carefully decorated with large items and no tiny things to ensure it doesn't look empty.

I ask this because seems hardly anyone on PC NA is selling materials anymore. Also seems like some people just gave up? What are your thoughts?

The problem just like in SWTOR is that housing in ESO is very useless atm beside from adding craft table housing in both SWTOR and ESO is just for show that mean so you can show off place to other palyer which is really sad and i wrote this back when ZoS announcements housing was come to ESO.

I have house but im hardly there why mostlike for dont do anything and so out of place.

    Thing the should do is
    1. If logout in your house you should so call rest XP on char
    2. Add NPC so it feel like living place
    3. Add Vendor so you can buy samething like you do at any Vendor in game i mean the basic potion, food, lookpick
    4. Fix thing like if you invite someone the come there even if you are not there and also let other player logout that your house
    5. Add more thing to ingame house Vendor so not everything need to crafting for or Crown Store
    6. Maybe add some buffs for you own a house maybe like few % better drop rate on gold/craft repice/craft material
    7. Add Storage space that is bound to account

This just few thing from top of head right now for honest housing in ESO have really good potential i just hope ZoS dont waste like BioWare did in SWTOR there basically everything is in there cash shop.

At this point I think SWTOR is actually superior when compared to ESO. Sure there are a lot of cash grab loot boxes but you can actually get most (if not all) of the items in them on the GTN (Which is a global auction house in SWTOR - easy to use and navigate, prices aren't bad at all ) SWTOR has a much better story and it has been done extremely well, subscribing is actually an attractive option in that game, they have even started selling some of the rarer items from the loot boxes on the GTN. DLC's like KOTFE and KOTET are probably among the best DLC's in game history, let alone MMO history, and you can play them all by subscribing, unlike Morrowind. The only thing that hinders SWTOR is the combat, it's the typically bad MMO-style combat. If they had made SWTOR an RPG, as opposed to an MMORPG, it would have been amazing.

I've said this before. I would LOVE to get into housing in the game. One of my favourite things to do is become part of the world.

When I played Star Wars Galaxies, I spent easily 90% of my time driving around searching for a place to put a house, then decorating it. I had houses on several planets, and was part of the many towns. I would spend my time there crafting, or imagining I was having dinner, or entertaining guests, or selling goods, there in my own home.

The Old Republic is disappointing for the same reason THIS is. I can't have a house for each of my characters, they're FAR too expensive, and exclude a significant portion of the community, and there's nothing to DO with them. I can do some crafting at least, but there's no traffic, no chatting, nothing. It's a very sterile experience.

Housing could be a wonderful, social experience. Sure, it's not going to appeal to everyone, but neither does PvP. Different strokes for different folks.

i got a medium sized home, got a dps dummy for me and my buddies to use, then called it a day. I'd say working as intended, im pretty sure the people who were interested in housing already got what they wanted from it, and therefore stopped farming.
