I think its pretty expensive for average players, and it has very limited functionality.
Decorating houses is also too limited in my opinion. You cant change the colors and textures (walls, for example), and crafting/buying items is too much of a hassle. I might play it if it had sims-like interface, but in the current state I dont really find it enjoyable. Not to mention that some of the useful items, Mundus stones, for example, are only available in cash shop and the price is not very reasonable. And yeah, item limitations are silly. Even vanilla ESO locations have a lot of objects, why player houses cant?
So yeah, imo at the current state its just a glorified dummy room.

Well I still enjoy it. Have now got quite a few and I find it fun to think of how going to add bits & decorate. Find it relaxing after running around to go back & faff with the stuff.
It's just another aspect of the game. I can spend days manically playing in Cyrodiil then go off questing or fishing or decorating or doing writs or whatever. Gives a bit of variety.

And houses are good free ports especially for when have a bounty & need to hide/get to TG.

But do find the drop rate for mats is low & the amount needed to craft stuff can be silly.

People may not 'get' housing but hey, I don't necessarily get the concept of running the same dungeon over and over again to get gear to run the same dungeon again ( ;) ) but to each their own!

Housing is rough because ZOS gives us 1/4 of the slots we need to decorate houses properly. Please vote and leave a comment on that thread.

Maybe for you? I have 4 nicely decorated house, the most full is about 90%

It's not dying, just sort of done. Most people have the houses they want and are more or less done decorating them. Materials and plans are plentiful and cheap for anyone who is still working through it. Like anything else new, the demand and price for housing stuff was really high at first, and drops way, way down when the hype settles.

The demand might spike again if housing storage is ever introduced.
6354 heartwood sold in the last 10 days on my MM.

Demand is just down, so prices have plummeted. Most people have completed their house(s) by now.

Whaaaat??? OK, I need to switch servers. On EU, all housing mats except for Decorative Wax are sold out everywhere, ever since Morrowind launched. I would even pay absurd amounts of gold, but it's just gone, nada. I've been trying to find heartwood for weeks, without luck.

So I can say that housing is anything but dead on PC EU.

You might want to disable Awesome Guild Store and do a new search. I currently have to disable it to be able to find Heartwood, Mundane Rune and ...Regulus (iirc). I frustrated me to no end how everyone was out of Heartwood day in and day out - until a guildmate put up some Heartwood for me and I could not find it and played around with my addons to figure out the cause.

Are you sure you aren't having an addon issue? Disable Awesomeguildstore and search crafting->blacksmithing->furniture mats. I'm 99% sure you'll see 100500 Regulus sold.

It seems Zeni smartly(and silently) changed some categories and Awesomeguildstore is having issues finding things now. Except for Wax which category they apparently didn't change. Use default interface for now.

Edit: Actually come to think of it...is it also same thing OP might be experiencing? Not the lack of actual mats but rather the addon bug.

I actually never saw the point in housing. It doesn't offer teleports and buffs like guild houses do in other mmorpgs. It doesn't do anything that properties do in other games.

What do people do with housing?

I don't own an in game house, what's the point other than a being a money and gold sink.

The only thing that has really put a damper on housing for me is the fact that all of the new blueprints seem impossible to find. :(

I understand things being rare, but practically all of the new ones, with the exception of the daedric ones, seem way beyond rare. At least to me. I've really just decided to not even bother to try to find them anymore right now.

Thanks you two! AwesomeGuildstore just got an update that's supposed to fix this. If the prices have, in fact, gone down on heartwood, then at least I have saved some money by stupidity B)

I'm still hoarding all my mats so I can actually properly decorate my house. The grind is huge if you want to craft your own stuff, along with terrible drop rate on mats (when just playing and not specifically farming) I think deters a lot of people from even starting.

Preview in crafting window would be great!

Isn't that possible right now (or are you in console)?

That's in the game... For console and PC. No add-on required.

PC can preview stuff you buy via an add-on, bit everyone can preview from the crafting screen.

Housing - personally, not interested. I like to be out, in the game world, not in some house that doesn't do much for me. When I finish playing for the day, I'll save it wherever I am. If I want a house and fix it up nicely, I'll play Sims 4, and that will happen - like never.

I play NA PC, and now and then find something that I can sell, but it's been months since my last sale. I see stuff for sale in chat now and then, but not often.

I'm just thinking... what if there were many people like me, who were too stupid to notice the addon error? What if demand hasn't actually gone done, but was just impacted a lot by all the addon users? Would make sense to me. Will be interesting to see what happens now, after the update to AGS.

I have 2 small and one large houses almost completely finished, so my interest in housing has ground to a bit of a halt.

They need to do only 1 thing to get me interested again: let me place objects in other player's houses.

I would be a furniture fairy and everyone who gave me permissions would get stuff. Until then, I'm mostly done.

It's true that housing is mostly useless other than for decorating, bragging, and roleplaying. Unless you're in a guild with a leader who has every freaking crafting set station in the game all in one location. But ultimately, it would be nice if owning and visiting your home would come with extra perks. For instance, owning a house in Skyrim was practically crucial for inventory space. Would almost be nice to have extra bank/storage space in your home and a smaller wayshrine to travel anywhere from. It might also be nice to do something kinda like SWTOR did in the sense of, if you log out of the game while IN your ship, you'd get a small exp bonus when you logged back in, and the duration of said bonus was depended on how long you were logged out inside your ship. That way it GIVES players a reason to visit their home and even log in and out from. It would make it so much more interactive and immersive I think.

Also, being able to access your bank from your home would be nice as well. That would reduce the need to go into a lag infested town just to visit a banker.

Was it ever truly alive? They utterly failed to do many of the things that are a non-negotiable part of a housing system. That makes it rather difficult to invest much time or creativity into the system.

That actually might be the case. I needed a bunch of mundane runes for guild raffle stuff and couldn't find them anywhere. I assumed there wasn't much demand so they weren't being listed. I finally broke down and did an all-items search on keyword 'Mundane' it took forever for the search to crawl, but I ended up finding them in just about every guild store, cheap.

A person who wasn't as hard pressed as I was probably would have moved on and stopped looking, and I bet many many people did. An Addon error did t even occur to me for a long time.

Just a thought: Homes have no storage because they released the Banker before Homesteads and they want you to buy that guy for 5k crowns. If assistants weren't a thing, maybe housing would have come with storage right from the start (or maybe more like this banker functionality). I hope they realize houses need some extra features badly because they are quite a nice addition, but being only decor will deter players from buying them pretty soon (other than the few that may be RPing and getting homes for that purpose).

Roleplay? You can use it as a free teleport to a convenient city I suppose.

Thats what i use it for. Humblemud, Snugpod (bought with in game gold) and the four free apartments have been a godsend of free fast travel. I plop doen a stool and a pet and good enough.

What do people do with housing?

The pricing is pretty bad - and prohibitive on most people. I personally didn't even have interesting in Housing until Topal Hideaway came out because of its size and quality. Even so the only reason I purchased Topal was that I was doing so for a guild of small friends to treat as a guild house and be part of building.

Functionality is one thing missing in the system. They really should add loadout (gear and skill) dummies like DCUO has. In fact this game's designers need to go play DCUO for some ideas, because the two games (despite theme and artistic style) are very similar when it comes to gameplay. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I am not interested in housing - why? No storage

Housing should in some way effect storage at the very least. I agree with this. Storage is still woefully short even with the doubling we got from being subscribers - I barely notice it. The problem for people like me is that I want to be able to play around with a lot of sets as well as crafting and the system really isn't meant for that it would seem.
