With the introduction of Dwarven Crown Crate, is ZOS turning more and more like Korean MMO's?

I'm asking because I just saw the Dwarven Crown Crate offering for the first time today and saw that these "special" crates will have rare mounts. This reminded me of Korean MMO developed by Nexon (greedy dev) I used to play called Dragon Nest. I ended up spending about $1200 in that game trying to open many expensive random boxes in hopes of obtaining a rare mount. I kept telling myself "hey I'm actually saving money by not going to a bar or wherever". I did eventually get the mount I wanted, but then Nexon kept introducing MORE rare mounts. It almost drove me to spend even more money but I came to my sense and quit the game. I don't gamble in casinos or even buy lotto's but what I experienced in Dragon Nest clearly felt like gambling to me. I haven't gambled in any games since, and I'm not going to gamble in ESO.

P.S. In China developers are "required to disclose the probabilities" of mystery boxes such as Crown Crate. I, for one, agree with this law.

**Update for perspective**

Assuming you buy Crowns only in 5500 packages:

15 Crates = $36.35 or $21.81 w/ 40% sale
30 Crates = $72.70 or $43.62 w/ 40% sale
45 Crates = $109.05 or $65.43 w/ 40% sale
60 Crates = $145.40 or $87.24 w/ 40% sale

I think it's easier to spend currency when it's labeled "Crown" rather than $.

Actually I am a new player. Also the fact that it's been going on for almost a year makes it even worse.

I really don't care. As long as it's only selling aesthetic items they can do whatever the hell they like imo. I just care about intuitive and in-depth gameplay being part of the base game (which they're working on).

If you want to spend a grand on cosmetics that's your prerogative. I'm lucky that the cosmetics that take my fancy are all cheap.

Saw nothing worth the high cost.
Just bought the merchant as not much else interest me as in worth the cost from my free eso+ crowns.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It's just a pack with cosmetic items, and a few semi-useful items (poisons and consumables).. but not better enough than craftable things to be considered PTW.
Almost every MMO has these cosmetic packs. It's where their income comes from.
Whilst I don't like it, and prefer subscription costs, it's not PTW so I don't care so much.

Not with the dwarven crates themself. This has been going on since long before the crates where even a thing.

I've decided to completley boycot the crates because I am compley against that form of RNG (that is paying real money for random stuff).

But I really wish that EU and/or USA would make a law like the one in China has.

Not sure I agree with this line of reasoning to be honest. Overall resources will be allocated to what brings in the money. Yes I know that they have different departments working on different things but I'm sure the bigger budget probably goes to what makes more money.

It's frustrating to me because there are things in the crates I would buy if they were sold directly. But since my only option is to throw away money gambling I simply go without them and both I and ZOS lose out.

I've been sitting on several thousand crowns for months now, waiting for stuff I want to come into the store but there's very little outside of the crates which I want. I suppose in a way it's good because I've been spending a lot of money on other hobbies lately, but it's still disappointing.

Because in those MMOs those crates actually have items. That can instantly boost you upto the top 1% status of overpowered. Without any ingame work needed needed.

Take Blade and Soul or Tera for instance. Not completely P2W. However if you do pay 2000$ you can skip 3 years of grind overnight. And no one who don't pay will stand a chance against you for 3 years. By that time you just repeat process and are still unbeatable by like at least 96% of the game. Because items in these games are just like ESO now. THEY ARE YOUR BUILD.

So my vote is no on this.

No. First, this is the third version of the crown crates and they have all had rare items that were previously in the crown store before.

Further, it is common in MMOs today as it is a good source of revenue, though ESO is the first that does not permit resale within the game of any items obtained from the crates.

Actually ESO & Dragon Nest has very similar offerings. Mostly cosmetic, and some utility items that doesn't help win the game by spending more money.
