Bloodthorns touch on a magDK

I have had this set for a while now but I refrained from using it because it says it procs on direct damage and seeing only Whip and leap are direct damage? It wouldn't be very useful..
Today I saws blobs video where hes using it so now I'm wondering if I am wrong on what procs this set, can you guys help me out on this?

The first tick from DoTs is also considered direct damage.

It's a pretty good set. Very underrated. Unlike stam regen sets, you still get stam back when blocking.

Funny I mentioned this set on one of his streams and he said it was trash lol. But it was shortly after update with a lot of viewers so he might have inundated.

Light attacks and enchantment procs are also direct damage

You should be able to get close to 100% uptime with this set while in combat.

In homestead bloodthorn didn't proc of first tick of any dots (tested it on templar)

I don't know that this is true for every DoT. But it's certainly true that almost all of a magDK's class DoTs have a direct damage component followed by a DoT, according to the tooltip. So the testing @Ashamray did on a templar may not be representative of this set's performance on a DK.

OP, you will get plenty of direct damage for Bloodthorn to be useful. Bloodthorn can only proc once every five seconds. If you are not getting at least one Flame Whip, enchant proc, light attack, or Burning Embers (etc.) off once every five seconds, you are doing something wrong.

This is just flat out wrong.

Bloodthorn will proc off Burning Embers, Talons, Breath - in fact i cant think of a DK skill that will not proc it.

This is because they all have one Direct Damage and a totally seperate DoT. This is easy visible in toooltip.

Deals x damage and the y damage over time. X will proc Bloodthorn. Y will NOT. Not even the first tick.

On a Templar most DoTs do not have a seperate direct damage component. Sweeps for example, will not proc it. Burning light however, should proc it.

As I said., nothing procced it on Templar except some obvious direct damage hits.
Backlash also has a direct dmg component like Searing strike or vampire's bane, but Backlash didn't proc set bonus.
