What is your threshold for putting someone on ignore list?

Generally I don't block people for abuse, if they're hitting what's considered the high level here I like to see what they're saying so my reports to ZOS can be all the better.
(yes if you use hate speech in this game I'll report your butt in a second).

The last person I remember blocking was a guild member who wouldn't stop whispering me telling me how a friend of mine was toxic.
I asked them politely to stop whispering me as I wanted to PvP, warned them then they continued on would block them, then when they didn't stop they got the block.
Apparently they complained to the then guild leader about me blocking them as well.
I removed the block an hour later, but it had done its job of shutting them up.

Low threshold. Anyone annoying me. And that Mutter troll on Vivec EU zone chat with all his/her accounts. You know who I mean.

I often wonder if the fact that someone has a massive ignore list tells us more about that person than it does about the people on it.
All it means is they don't want to put up with any bull, or see racism/nastiness/politics/spamming in zone chat. I totally understand that. I only have two on my list because I just ignore 99% of the bull.

Indeed, you make my point for me. You ignore the bull and don't rise to it, and as a result you only have two on your list.

My list is empty - if I see people really crossing the line in chat I'll call them on it or report them, ignoring them just gives them license to continue and forces other people to have to deal with their abuse... IMO it's just burying your head in the sand.

My threshold is pretty low. Bigotry of any kind, significant vulgarity, generally juvenile behavior, or advocating for the policies of a particular, unnamed President will put someone there.

So basically any opposing view? By ignoring a problem, you only allow it to grow, and I'm speaking for any president or candidate. If you can't at least attempt to see the other side and tolerate differing opinions, then you are the problem, not them.

Or you can take the view that such things have no place in the game and you prefer to mute anyone spouting them.

Personally I remove most of the issues that plaque online games by disabling Zone chat (I keep Zone English enabled as it tends to be more relevant to the game and much less used).

Never had to do it. Usually, it's about getting the last word in a discussion and I never care about getting the last word, I just move on.

None. I don't care how "offensive" one's choice of words is. To ignore them is to close off interaction. If you are overly sensitive and ignore everyone, why not play a single player game? This is a MMO. It brings different people with differing views and perspectives. Get over it.

I've seen dudes make emphasis-scarequotes "jokes" about lynching and hate violence, maybe trotting out tired plattitudes about "getting over it" isn't the wisest response to this thread.

No, from the results of the poll getting over it looks like the best advice. Most people who voted look like they would rather 'get over it', than ignore someone. Heh

This response to that post reflects in an unfathomably poor way your character and values.

How so? I feel that a better reflection of character is to display the ability to tolerate opposing views. How do you lack "values" when you merely learn to accept that some people think differently than you?

Or, I can play an MMO and close off interaction with people I choose to remove from most or all interactions. I mean who wants to get to know jerks better?

Really high threshold. Its not racists, sexists, harassers, or toxic players i put on ignore though. I only ever put those super annoying rando people in beginner zones on ignore. You guys know the ones i'm talking about, the ones that talk about the dumbest crap ever and all seem to think they have multiple Ph. D's on any given subject.

I don't think people should be the target of hate violence and I feel pretty justified in thinking at the very least that people who do are deeply maladjusted, you absolute loon.

I only have four individuals blocked within one year of playing ESO, either for very personal reasons or PvP reasons - imagine my shock. I don't care if you bully, harrass, incite hate, spam, etc.

My threshold for blocking is thus very high. The ones I block in PvP are people who first send you a hate whisper (the instigator) with an incoherent statement that usually makes no sense, and most of them proceed to block you before you can even counter what he said. I see this as a cowardly move. If that doesn't happen, the discussion would end up becoming hazardous to one's brain by reading all the terrible arguments the opposition tries to make, and then I put him on the block list if the situation is truly hopeless. I like to use rational thought to challange the individual before executing my next action. Sometimes the discussion ends up being friendly and that's all well and good.

Apart from those two reasons, I never block for things such as spam or hate nor report, I like to stay informed even if it is useless information.
