We want PvE events, and we want them now.

Edit: ZOS do not listen to the people saying they don't want to have random bosses they can't defeat spawn on their head. That's totally not what I'm saying here and I'm sure you know it. PvE based events such as a mini daedra invasion or something would really make this game more interesting. As long as the events that occur with strong enemies are near tons of other players then it should all be fine.

Imagine you're walking around Vivec city enjoying the scenery when suddenly a flock of cliff racers swarm over the city and start attacking everyone in sight. Or maybe you're in mournhold waiting for your que and daedra start raiding the place. These kind of things happen in other MMOs like WoW, I remember playing the game and randomly having giant bosses spawn in the middle of a major city then all the idle high lvl players start ganking him. It really makes the game feel more alive like it's a living breathing world.

We could even have random encounter events, say you're doing quests and then random a bunch of cheese starts falling out the sky.
ZfAd1J.gif

It'd be really great to have some in game events to randomly occur. As papa ZOS always says, the more RNG the better, no matter where it comes from or what it applies to.

The closest thing you will probably get is something like FATEs in ffxiv. Basically, each zone has repeatable "random" event that last for so long in a particular area of the map. A zone might have 10-15 unique FATEs but not all are active at once and some are very rare. They include things such as escort missions, a big boss, and small "invasions" of trash mobs. This kind of thing has been requested before, and not just for PvE zones. They were once requested for Cyrodiil.

ESO's version of this type of event would not be exactly the same, but it could include achievements as well as set drops.

Roaming bosses in each district would be cool. Kinda like the bosses that patrol Imperial City sewers but only on a much larger scale.

Would be nice if they spawned at random locations in a zone and took a ton of people to kill.

People have suggested Dark Anchors spawn randomly on their own and Daedra begin to spawn and roam out into the zone like a legit "invasion" and players have to fight their way to the Anchor to stop the flow. The main problem with that idea though is Anchors activating during off hours and Daedra roaming out into the zone unopposed. Where would the mobs go? Would they just keep travelling farther and farther to all corners of the zone, spawning more and more as it goes until the zone is just FULL of Daedra? Of course that would be a performance nightmare, there would need to be restrictions such as a diameter limit on how far the mobs can travel out, then despawn in left untouched so more can continue to spawn at the anchor without putting stress on the game.

    No those are fixated locations.

I'm talking random PVE events, like a giant netch spawns outside mournhold and everyone goes to kill it.

That's why I l like the FATE model. FATEs have time limits. If you don't finish it in so many minutes it "fails" and disappears.

You know when you're wandering around and suddenly some dremora drop from the sky almost on your head and then stand menacing and glaring in their little glowy circle?

Yeah, I hate that. The idea that I have a pressing need for something unpredictable-ish to try to kill me every minute or so is not my favorite. I'm good. Thanks anyway.

Sounds like something to make questing/exploring/resource-gathering more annoying. "Oh, you wanted to do something there? Sorry, you need 10+ other people to come make it possible again."

I think this would be fun. However, as soon as an event drops and is announced in zone chat everybody porting there at once would cause lag so bad many people would not even be able to port there. Then there is the matter of dropped loot. Who gets it? Top 12 damage dealers (current)? Everybody?

I would be on board 100% with a roaming "random event" boss type thing in each zone. I've loved those in other games.

Pretty much every implementation of this kind of system has sucked in other games. It's cool and novel for a few week, but then it sinks in and you recognize it as a dolled up 'Daily Quest'. FATES are horrible, grindy, and joyless. The only game that kinda did this right was Guild Wars 2 and it was built in to the design from the ground up, not added later on, so that there was an actual tangible effect on zones that was already accounted for rather than patched in as an afterthought. Eventually you stop caring about poor Farmer McApple's orchard burning down for the trillionth time this week, and it just creates a huge, jarring disconnect.

Super major world raid bosses that need to be cooperatively summoned and taken down could be neat (again, more like Tequatl and less Odin/Behemoth), but having them wandering and roaming around would be annoying as soon as half the player base decided they were bored of fighting them and they become impossible to kill, roving about unchecked and getting in the way of questers just trying to mind their business.

TL;DR Hated every other implementation of this idea I've tried. It's just obnoxious padding, would rather the effort be put towards decent story arcs than 'random' distractions.

We could try not to attempt to paste WoW onto ESO. That would be nice.

The events you describe sound similar to anchors and World Bosses but with added randomness. Now I don't know about your personal experience, but ESO RNG hates me with a passion.

I'd rather not get destroyed by some random ass boss over and over because I can't kill it without 20 people. Especially if I'm just shopping guild traders and there happens to be no one else in the area. Just go kill world bosses. It's the same thing except you get to decide whether or not you wanna do it.

I like the idea of random roaming kill squads from super anchors. It wouldn't be that much different from a pvp server except you get ganked by npcs instead of people. More things to be aware of. It probably wouldn't happen because ESO doesn't have a minimap by default nor should it so knowing whether or not something is incoming and you have to quickly make a change of course to avoid it would be difficult. Maybe they could make it something like the dragons from Skyrim.

Not every zone. Maybe a future dlc zone would have this feature. I'm reminded of the celestial portals in Craglorn...

I was just thinking the other day how there aren't any guards or caravans along the road. And if you come upon a traveling merchant you either save them from bandits or threaten an item out of them. Bah! The queens roads are sacrosanct! I want to seriously kill and loot an entire traveling caravan on one character or protect the caravan to its destination on another (not set too far apart please).

I'm in favor of the concept but not of the idea as is in the op.
