Why buy a house when you can pretend...

One of the unoccupied houses in a town is yours? It's un instanced and fully furnished. I think some even have a fireplace for cooking. Great for rpers. The part I like the most is that it's not instanced and burglar can come in and steal the bread off your table. Immersion!

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

My guess would be because people want to make it their own. Place items which reflect their personalities or trophies which show their triumphs.

Precisely because it's not instanced. I don't want randos creeping on my house.

Players rarely go in them. So it shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe not for you, but it obviously is for me, or I wouldn't have offered it as reason for my preference for the actual housing system we have.

My Bosmer has always claimed Elden Root as home. She used to pretend to live/sleep in the Mages Guildhall there (she's a magey type). After houses, she bought Snugpod (also in Elden Root) and it is just different - a couple things I like (decorating it up a bit for example) but it also feels lonely (even with a pet inside guarding). Overall, the housing is sort of a wash for me. Most of it is me though; since my elf is always on the road, the only 'house' that would ever really please her is a campsite she could set up anywhere she wants. That is what she always preferred (via mods) in Oblivion and Skyrim.

It's so much more immersive that it's not instanced. Loading screens suck for a MMORPG.

Yeah. Instanced housing is not very good imo. You play MMORPG to play thousands not being in a instance by yourself.

Except for that one time someone does come in when I am entertaining a group of people for one of Stewie's Sexy Parties.

cannot setup my target dummy, crafting stations (some attuned to IC sets), mundus stones and such. You can pretend you crafted this and that but it really does not do all that much vs a a boss.

besides, i also cannot free-port to it or decorate it.

So, really, not even close to the same benefits for the gold i spent for my actual in-game houses.

ESO shouldn't of taken the DCUO route of instance based player homes.

Instead they should of did like Archeage and have plots of lands players can customize. Just give us a few housing zones and some over the top expensive housing properties with insane taxes in the major cities or zones like mournhold.

Would of been 10x better and actually felt like your home mattered. I don't even care about ESO's housing system, it's just a way to spend excessive gold/mats.

Do you really want any old Tom *** or Harry wandering through your private domain at random? And being able to steal things?

    No thank you.

Edit: Oh good lord, ESO censorship strikes again.

I liked the options SWTOR and SWG had that allowed others to tour your home. They couldn't take anything but they could walk around and see what you had done to the place. You could even have vendors in SWG housing and sell your creations.

That housing system sounds interesting. Me too, I haven't played around much with the housing in this game. Some days though I get tempted to buy a medium sized house so I can mess around with it a little bit and put training dummy and crafting stations and other stuff. But then I remember players in my guild have it so I can use theirs.

Bad thing about AA housing is that only a very small population of the game has access to housing whoever planted houses down in those spots.

@rotaugen454 You go in other people's homes uninvited all the time, many players do it and steal from/murder the occupants on a whim. :p

That was the nice thing in EQ2. They tied housing to the auction system and it created a situation where people came to your house to trade (and save the auction house fees). I had many people I didn't know compliment my house and created friendships out of it.

There is no reason for that here.
