New Weapon Skill Lines-Has there ever been mention by ZOS?

I'm just curious if there has ever been any mention of adding new stamina and mag weapon skill lines to the game? I don't need a time line of when it's going to happen just confirmation that's being discussed for the future. After 3 years I'm tiring of the same ole destro/resto and which do I use with bow, DW or 2 hander (sorry not a sword and board guy). I've searched on the forums here and I see quite a bit of posts wanting new weapons, etc but I've never seen a ZOS response to any of these. I guess I'm hoping someones heard them mention it in a podcast or something else that I missed.

As a spear guy who left my templar for a class that fit me more (Warden with it's nature), I'd sure like to see a proper spear line and not a magical light spear. I don't know what it is about games. Spears are one if not the oldest of weapons and yet most give you the same ole sword, axe, hammer. I'm not asking for a niche weapon like whips or bolas. Just one that's played a huge role in fantasy and reality. I mean they're in the game laying around already and some NPCs are sparring with them. Just knowing if they are going to be possible one day would definitely help shape the class direction I continue on with. I'm sure others can make the case for the weapons they want to see.

I have never seen them mention anything like this. The only thing I remember from long ago is the mention that originally they wanted to keep expanding the skill trees by adding morphs. But that was forever and a day ago.

Maybe somebody has better news for you.

I don't remember them talking about new weapons at all. Before we see new weapons we'll get Spellcrafting (soon).

the question is, were there any other weapons that existed in the ALPHA that did not make it to the final game? The only new class "added" is the WARDEN, which is from the ALPHA (used existing old code). I'm not convinced ZOS has the capability to really code anything new anymore.

    I hope I'm wrong.

The lines we have are fine for the most part...the number of skills is not. I think they need to keep adding skills and morphs...or even just morphs so you have a full tree to chose from instead of just 2 branches. This should apply to all skill lines. I mean you have what? 10 skills in each line to chose from? Why not 20 or 30? Stamina morphs for heals for instance. Aside from the Warden stam morphs healers are pigeon holed into magicka builds. To be sure, I am not opposed to the addition of new skill lines...I just think they could expand the existing ones to be a lot more interesting.

Warden was cut from the release version because they were not able to finish the class in time. Warden has been "in development" for half a decade or even longer.

Stamina players get 4 different weapon options while magicka players get 2 choices - WTF. Adding Alteration Staff and an Illusion Staff skill lines to allow magicka players to utilize more options that just a destroy staff or resto staff. Separating the Bow skill line into two different types can offer a more viable Bow-based approach to combat in either PvE or PvP.

Illusion Staff can focus on CC-effects and debuffs with a "fire/ice staff attack animation" for light/heavy attacks. Alteration Staff can focus on buffs and utility spells, such as speed, or temporary wards. Alteration staves can have the "tether" resto staff attack animation on light/heavy attacks.

On the stamina side, separate the Bow skill line into a Shortbow and a Longbow skill line. Shortbow focuses on short-range, sustained-DPS attacks while Longbow focuses on long-range, burst-damage attacks. Shortbows would be ideal for PvE with quick attack animations and Longbows would favor the sniper in PvP with slower, heavier-hitting attacks.

There, problem solved. Get to work ZoS.

Before spears, or alteration/illusion/conjuration staffs we need unarmed skill tree.

In oblivion specifically there was such a good unarmed skill line. You could paralyze (stun) enemies with certain heavy attacks (which plays into the current meta) and you could feel like a badass when you're doing it.

I've been in plenty of unarmed battles in ESO, and I can say if they made unarmed a skill line it would make this game 1000x more epic.

The illusion staff line sounds interesting.. maybe incorporate more utility skills than straight dmg (some cloak variant, illusion pet that can be broken by players, some alternative from of the NB fear skill, etc.). Maybe just release an ILLUSIONIST and NECROMANCER classes? As MAG weapon skills go, what about wands and runes? Weren't there sposta be runes?

    Yea that's what scares me...

I wish they would ask us (through officials polls) what items we'd like to see for the upcoming expansions. Sometimes it just seems they just don't have a pulse on what their gamers want (we wanted barber shops and we ended up with crown store hair styles and $10 change appearance coins done out of game).

That is nice but I think Spear is more important and easier to put in.
    We already have spear animations.

But I do not see why both Spear and un-armed can't be put in at the same time.

An illusion staff would be pretty awesome as would one hand and rune/orb

Who would be one of the big wigs over this kind of development? Maybe we can tag them on this post and see if we can get any kind of official response. I tried a PM to someone I thought might be able to shed some light and I got nothing.

I would LOVE to see spears and magicka weapons that are not staves. Look at GW2 and WoW, they know how to make magic classes somewhat varied and interesting as far as weapons go.

Warden wasn't "cut" from release. It never made it past alpha.

After all of these years of MMOing, having choices is what kept games interesting (and me subbed) even when you might have done something multiple times. If all my casters are using 5-6 of the same abilities and my stamina builds are doing the same, the few new abilities of a new class are only fun for so long.

You mentioned GW2 and people were bringing up an illusion staff as a another mag weapon here and the first thing I thought of was the unique Mesmer class. So cool. I'd say an illusion staff here would be great!

GW2 Mesmer is awesome. Especially the greatsword variety. I just really dont want another magicka staff in ESO. Theres already too much of that. Make it 1h+spell, make it a scpeter, make it a wand, make it a greatsword, make it anything but another staff.

A one hand and rune icon was datamined a while back, so that might be coming as a new weapon skill line.

This is my problem as well. All the classes are essentially the same. And even when they do large scale change they don't really ever shift the meta. So more heavy attacks or maybe one skill different. But again it is the same one skill across all the characters. So it still feels blah. I understand they have issues with balance, but making most the skills the same is a cheap an easy way out that leads to less fun.

Yea I hear ya. Staves have been done to death..definitely need a totally new addition for a magica weapon.
