What happened to all the Bear is going to be OP, Warden is PTW because its going to be the best class in the game posts from a few months back?

The bear is OP af because it's basically an invincible pet.

Warden P2W, best tank, heals, dps, and now best kiting.

I think the Bear is pretty cool and gives the Warden its own Flavor. Its Ultimate hits hard too.

Its just a fun aspect of the class, the Warden has some very good ultimates overall, the bear is fun for the solo or small group questor and its fill that role nicely.

i view the bear's passive strikes as something akin to the 5% damage boost and other such passive bonuses from other ulti when slotteds. Similarly to its occasional drawing of a enemy aggro.

however, as with other pets, i think focusing a pet on single target damage is bad design given the fluid nature of combat and lack of control. So its ulti-click being so narrow in scope is pretty much keeping it off my bar after a few tries for fun sake.

Same reason i focus on vol-fam when i run a pet sorc. AOE burst should be the pet key-click, not single target.

to improve it the bear needs some group buffs or some other function on key-click. perhaps a big debuff roar or a fear roar or an AOE maim style debuff for cowering... but for now my wardens are using the other warden buffs quite happily or the weapon/guild ones.

They're tougher than people are letting on, for stamina builds anyway. I was in VHrC the other day, the bottom cleared and we were outside waiting for top to finish when my bear aggro'd the ulti builder, we all moved away and the two of them just went at each other for a good 2 minutes while we waited for top to clear.

It is very slow in attacking mobs ( most of the time is spent moving )

It amuses me that such a iconic flagship feature of the new class is so pathetic in its actual implementation

It keeps the mobs off me when I'm looting resource nodes and chests.

It used to count as an ally, so you could use Nature's Embrace on it. But you can't do that either anymore :D

I think it puts out decent single target damage in end game stuff though.

Yup. Destro Ult > Bear Ult by a long shot. Meteor and Dawnbreaker are better too. Bear is "meh" at best.

Anyone tried it with the Hunt leader set? With DW heavy attack being pretty quick and the class having constant access to major expedition, this could make for some nice sustain and healing, at least on paper.

(5 items) When your pet attacks an enemy you have also attacked recently, you heal for 2433 Health and restore 1216 Stamina. This effect can occur once every 5 seconds.

On paper, yes. But the bear is dumb and requires a full heavy attack to pick targets. Hunt Leader isn't worth it unfortunately. :(

If you hold down the Y button and left click a target the bear will switch to that target without a heavy attack. While I agree that in most cases there are better ults (I'm a healer and use green healing ult on my warden and destro staff ult), there are times when having the bear has been nice, such as soloing world bosses or public dungeons.

Every ability in this game, from what I've seen, can have a use that makes sense, but swapping out skill sets based on the upcoming situation has been what I have found to be the best option.

The above might be a reason for some builds to keep the Bear slotted.

You mean that ugly blue splashing animation... yeah, like I want that covering me all the time just to keep my Necro up... no thanks. I find I only use Blue Betty when I'm doing boss fights, for general quest mobs there's no need.

I honesty like the bear, MUCH better than Clannfear. I believe it was designed for solo quest players, you know, the majority players in the game... and it allows us to have a combat pet without sacrificing two ability slots. Since in solo quest content you rarely ever need to use an Ultimate, the bear works fine as is.

As for not holding aggro... I believe this could be a result of either scripted aggro dumps or player doing too much damage which typically tends to draw aggro anyway. The real key to the bear gaining/maintaining aggro is to send them in first with the 'Y' command and then wait about five seconds before engaging... typically in that situation the bear maintains aggro. I've also used in quest boss fights where I sent the bear in first, and sat back dropping AoE's from range... after about 10+ seconds the boss started coming after me, but before he reached me he turned back around and re-engaged with the bear.

Bear does NOT require heavy attack to target. I usually send it in to attack. On PC - hold "Y" and left click. (Not sure console command) to command pet. You can send in pet while in stealth and still get bonus damage. I 've also confirmed that the bear does not sneak with you. I've had him get attacked multiple times (and incurred bounty) because I forget to unsummon him when I'm doing quests that require you to stealth.

To recall pet, hold "Y" and right click... :)

I like the bear, but for all it's failings it should do a lot more damage.

10,000 magic damage for the cost of 75 ultimate?

I don't use it thought. Northern Storm for my Frost Mage all the way.

Why not add a pet skill line for pet class ultimates, so that the player can semi-tailor their ultimate? (Think something similar to the WW line). That might fix both Atronach and Bear.

I'm disappointed with the lack of damage this thing does for taking up my ultimate slot and as mentioned above, it's slow getting on target, sometimes it's not near me and spawns then runs in as I've killed the enemy(/enemies, etc...

I like having it so for now while I am solo questing/levelling I will keep it for the novelty but once I'm higher I'll switch it out if they don't revamp it.

Regarding my current magden build, the bear does a fair amount of damage. It can do like 3k dps by itself and gives me 100% on necropotence. However, it dies a lot in pvp, so I'm looking at other builds for that.
