I bought Morrowind and Tribunal in 2002. Neither of those lore-defining titles had bears, from my recollection.
No. Bears. In Morrowind. Solstheim is not Morrowind.
By far, the Sep Adder is THE most enjoyable pet.
The nixads are a close second but the buzzing wings eventually forces in the silent baby netches as replacements.
Pets should always be smaller than you.
Please change the bears so that the eat their owners. Or their owner's Palomino.
I got suspenders for saying "Testicular Mass" instead of "Balls". like, rilly.

At level 50 Warden, the ice and tree ultimates are generally better (I have ice on my offense bar, tree on defense), and weapon or guild ultimates can beat those. The bear is nearly useless in practice. But it's cute, I guess.
I think they'll thin out after the new & shiny wears off. When LOTRO introduced their bear shapeshifter class, all you saw was wall to wall bears everyfrickenwhere for months, but now over a year later you see a reasonable number mixed in with everything else.
They could make the bear do that magical appear act only when combat is initiated and have it be invisible when out of combat. But then again that would go against the whole idea of a companion pet.
