Gotta say im pretty happy about the spell pen tree in the champion system it brings SO much more diversity to builds.

of course sharpened will always be best trait but now you can still put up high dps numbers without it.

Good work.

What you guys think ?

Edit : i say mages only because they have the light armor passive that gives 5k spell pen and medium armor does not give that so you cant sacrifice that penetration for Crit without taking a dps hit

If the spell pen tree was not in the champion system, would precise have value in any casual play?

With the way spell erosion got changed, a light armor user with a sharpened staff and 31p into spell erosion hitting a target that was melee taunted or has ele drain on will have 100% penetration in PvE. So with that I would not want to swap to Precise, no matter how you count it, not having sharpened will lower DPS

Precise is better than it used to be, but sharpened is still BiS as it is the most efficient way of getting stats.

The one exception I could think of is if you were running the old crag trials with 100% uptime on all resistance debuffs

If u read i said its always gonna be best but its not mandatory and you can still do 30k dps without sharpened.

Before morrowind you wouldnt be able to pull off 30k dps with precise .

I think its a good thing . You are also assuming that whatever you are switching with sharpened isn't gaining u any dps?

    Infused increased enchants
    Charged increases effects
    Precise adds good crit
    Nirnhoined adds damage to weapon
Decisive is forsure worst trait lol

But ya those all boost your dps i wouldnt be surprised if one day charged precise or infused is bis for CERTAIN builds lol

Thief mindus + 7 divines piece yields no need for precise IMHO. Especially if Inner Light is slotted.

IMO, choose precise if you're okay with being 2nd best. lol

I think the reason why sharp is better than precise is you ignore the sharp CP but put into the crit dmg one instead

OP you speak as though it has recently been introduced, but spell pen CP has always existed

With the way spell erosion got changed, a light armor user with a sharpened staff and 31p into spell erosion hitting a target that was melee taunted or has ele drain on will have 100% penetration in PvE. the figures you give are true for overland, dungeons and trials

the resistances of enemies in maelstrom has always been lower (not all classes/builds have access to breach/fracture)
with many magic classes choosing to run ele drain to help with resource management in maelstrom you are often 'over penetrating' - which means other traits such as precice & nirn are more desirable in this situation!

your title reads precise > sharpened

I didn't say it was mandatory, I said it was still BiS except for a few situations. The same way you could previously build for full armor pen (sunder/alkosh/nmg) and have a stam dps run precise weapons.

Whatever you switch it with will most likely not gain you as much dps as sharpened does.

With a question mark in the form of a question ;)

56 cp is all u need in all of the categories anymore than that is just wasting 50+ cp for a extra 2 percent
