Find it totally messed up that I can't play "Vanilla ESO"

Due to my finances I am not getting Morrowind right now. With that being said I find it totally messed up that I can't play ESO at all without having Morrowind. Really cool ZOS not everybody is running out and getting games as soon as they hit the shelves. As an ESO + member I guess I will be stopping my subscription since I can't play the game. Why was this the plan ..to scrap the base game??

Uhmm....you can still play ESO without Morrowind. Just...click on the play button.
Oooh, what do we have here? Another scrumptious young plaything straight out of life and into my club? Mmm... you smell new, little boy, like fabric softener dew on freshly mowed Astroturf. Oh, I'm not frightening you, am I, duckling?

What? You don't need Morrowind at all...it just adds a new class, zone, BGs and a few other non-essential things. I fail to see the issue here...

The confusion seems to come from the fact that the first time after the patch loads, there's a screen prompting you to key in a Morrowind code. There should be a button on that screen that lets you bypass it and play the base game.

You can absolutely continue to play ESO without Morrowind. You just won't be able to play Battlegrounds, go to Morrowind, play the new Trial, or make a Warden. That's it..everything else is just as accessible as it was before. Don't let the obtrusive Morrowind splash screen fool you - you don't have to buy it.

Well there isn't...so not sure what the issue is but I can't log in to the game at all. I tried the European Server and it said the same thing about entering codes and upgrading so I guess I won't be playing for awhile....

Are you playing on Xbox? There's a problem right now where a lot of people can't log into the game, but that's nothing to do with not having Morrowind, it's just the servers playing up.

You can play the base game but the base game has been updated. On PS4 hit O to continue. It tells you this. Idk what you mean by vanilla.

A lot of people refer to the original release of a game before it's first expansion and/or any major updates as the "vanilla" version.

I don't know why they call it that specifically, but that's what it means in this context.

I find it disappointing I can't play "Vanilla WoW" anymore. Such is the way of MMO's. You can still play "ESO" but you just won't have access to the new class or content.

    HINT:
There's a button on the launcher that lets you in without Morrowind expansion...

In defence of the OP, when I fired up a second account on my PS4 this morning and was confronted with the "Enter Code" and "Purchase Upgrade" options, I too thought I was stuck with unplayable accounts.

When I could not immediately see any other options, I just hit the X or O button (don't remember which) and it went through to the character selection screen. This was a little confusing at 6am and could have been a little clearer.
