People who queue for (vet) dungeons without speaking English...

The only time this is an issue is when they do something that isn't going to ever work. I have never encountered this in ESO but in other games. The healer didn't speak English. He only used one spell, an aoe heal. In that game, constantly spamming that spell meant massive threat. The healer always had agro and quickly fell leading to wipe after wipe. At that point you can only try to communicate. Fail that you vote kick. Got a new healer and finished the run no problem.

Anyway, for the sake of this not just being a rant...what do you think about/do with people who don't speak English in your group?
If they don't speak English, I try to communicate in one of the other official eso languages with them (German / French) or just carry on without talking.

btw. I'm pretty sure that German is the most common native language on the EU server, so if you want to set up a mandatory language for the groupfinder there, it should be German :p

I always find it funny that some native English speakers expect everyone to know English.

Here is an idea, get cultured and learn a few other languages yourself. You don't need to be perfect in French or German, but it doesn't hurt to learn them with at least basic proficiency (if you live in Europe).

We have the same problem in Canada. People get angry when they go to parts of Quebec and run into people who don't speak English. You live in a *** bilingual country. You should be able to speak French with at least some proficiency. if you can't, don't get angry at others when they can't speak English.

Unless there is a specific mechanic someone keeps failing there is no reason to talk to people. I'd rather deal with someone who can't speak English than someone who can and doesn't want to learn.

Not quite shore I agree with that the difference between normal and vet dungeons is massive on normal I can pretty much stand in the red through anything as long as I throw a shield up on my magsorce you don't really need to know mechanics at all on most dungeons

You can solo most vet dungeons. They are very easy at higher CP levels. The only challenging ones are the DLC ones and a few of the level II dungeons.

IMHO they should add language options for the group finder where people can choose what language they are willing to speak in the dung (ofc multiple options at once should be available). Then people who don't know english can choose to que with people who speak whatever language they know. And people who can understand english can que without risking getting someone who doesn't in a vet DLC dung.

Ask where he is from. Ask in your social / trading / large guild if any1 speaks that language. Usually they do => Get him/her to translate a few sentences - just to get the point across. It helps. If it still doesn't help and said person doesn't fulfill his role => Kick. Problem solved.

And even though English is widely known as a lingua franca, don't expect everyone to understand it. It would be the same saying that you shouldn't queue for group finder, in case you get in group with someone who only speaks German with a German client. It's the same - just different languages. And since both English, French & German are officially supported languages, your argument holds no strength, imo.

Its not a big deal if they know the strategy and have decent builds. I played with German and French groups and everything was fine.
Using group finder for dlc dungeons (or any vet dungeons) isnt a good idea anyway.

English is in most of the schools. So we should comunicate in this language . For example, I never learnt anything about german or french, because I study russian, so this is unfair If you tell me that german is native language.in american game.
Maybe english isn't official language of the world, but we should have one and english on basic level is simple enough.

Not sure if that would work on EU server... There are people who dont speak English and the game doesnt support their language (they often use unofficial translations - Turkish, Russian etc).

Most people I have seen using dungeon finder over the last 6-12 months do not have their mic turned on or don't have one. Sometimes you only find out they have a mic when they turn it on to call you an idiot or a useless player for not doing things their way or to their standard.

The only reason I chose the NA server was the assumption that it was where a higher percentage of players would speak English. I am not sure how I would go on the EU server, although I am quite sure there are a lot of people there who speak better English than some native English speakers on the NA server.

    即使你试图学习其他语言,你仍然会遇到无法沟通的情况。这不是问题所在。

I don't think OP was asking too much. For all we know, OP could be playing on NA server where English is supposed to be at least one of the main languages. And it's not let's kick whoever can't speak my native language, it's more failed communication on top of inexperienced players. Real frustration, I get it.

Would it be too much to ask for an emote system that communicates basic combat commands? Sorry, ESO isn't other MMOs, but I keep thinking of FF14. I don't like its story or combat system, but it does so many other things right...

Most PuGs don't talk to each other anyway beyond saying "hello" at the beginning.
So no big deal what language they speak as long as they know, "hi."

That doesn't work very well if a dungeon requires any strategy at all. See dlc dungeons. It can also well be an issue in other vet dungeons though - not popping altars on Malubeth, standing in the globe of protection on Vila Theran, not focusing the chaining ads on Gamyne, killing Daedroth on Rilis/students on Nerien'eth...

That's true, but that doesn't change anything.
A group of English-speakers not talking to one another is just as bad as a group of people who don't speak the same language.

The problem is a lack of knowledge of mechanics, and an unwillingness to communicate.

If you've got someone who doesn't know the fights, isn't pulling their weight or being otherwise problematic; well, there's a kick feature for a reason and everyone understands that message.

It's pretty frustrating. I remember going to tempest keep vet and on the last boss the healer didnt speak english. Told him to stack on group so boss wouldnt charge, everytime he'd run away spamming mutagen then BAM charge dead. Tried to say come, stay, here here etc.

Had same issue in vWGT on the planar inhibitor, tank didnt speak english and didnt have a ranged ability for portals. It's always the hard invested dungeons that get ya.

Now in before the...critical thinking I might get for this, English is not actually my first language. But I'd like to believe I speak it quite well. There was a time when I did not, and at that time I wouldn't dream of joining a teamwork-requiring activity without being able to communicate with said team whatsoever.

I understand there're a lot of languages in the world and that for some people learning different languages really doesn't come easy. I realize it's not fair for those people to be cut out of a game they want to play simply because it has been released in a language they don't know. What I don't understand is why those people would queue for challenging group activities with randoms and assume it fine. There're a lot of language-specific guilds that they could join/start and run with people who would understand them, at least until they understand the mechanics perfectly. If they are from a land so distant almost no one there plays ESO, it really sucks but they should probably refrain from grouping until they get some grasp on English at least. Or if they do fill a dying urge to pug a vet dungeon without understanding a word of what's going on, maybe they should at the very least warn their teams at the start rather than assume everyone is fine carrying someone who won't be able to follow a single instruction. Google translating "sorry I don't speak English" isn't that hard in any language.

It annoys the hell out of me. Maybe it's bad of me but omg...I'm fine carrying lowbies, fine wiping along inexperienced players for hours - long as we're communicating. But this...

Just today I queued for healer/dps roles and there's someone else in the group also queued as healer/dps. Groupfinder assigns healer role to me and frankly I'd prefer it that way. Me:"So I heal then?" Silence. Okay. We move on and they proceed to spam Mutagen the entire trash pull. Me:"So who's healing?" Silence, more Mutagen on next pull. Me:"Okay, lemme swap to dps then. XXX, you have Drain right?" Silence. No, they obviously don't have Drain(nor do they have Spc, Orbs, Worm, Warhorn or Prayer, all of which I personally did bother to get before queueing as a healer for vWGT) so I slot one of my own and we proceed. Fortunately everyone else knows what to do and even the silent "healer" does apear to have some clue about mechanics so we proceed to Planar. We stop and talk it over in groupchat, deciding to burn her with tank holding her til blue phase. Of course, the "healer" grabs the pinion as soon as it opens, after which tank lucks out on 2 portal stages in a row and we wipe. "Please don't close the pinion til blue stage" - silence. We try again, "healer" takes it again and we wipe again. This time they actually speak up in broken English "why no take ball in the middle, plz take ball" and we all go "no, bad ball/no take ball/only take blue ball" all over again and this time it finally seems to make it through for they leave it alone and we make it.

We made it, even hm, eventually, but oh my god. I'm super patient with pugs usually but lack of communication just drives me mad. Had another one, also in WGT, who didn't seem to know you gotta close portals on Planar whatsoever. We tried to tell him/her in whatever simple ways we could but they simply never closed them. They also never ressed for some reason(though heals were decent). I asked if they needed soulgems but they didn't answer. We asked them if they spoke English at all but they never answered. We gave up and disbanded the group and THEN they spoke up saying "sorry I don't speak English well". No ****, you don't, then why did you queue for this? And why didn't you tell us at the start? Or even at any of the points when we were asking you?

Another time we had a lowbie dps - I don't actually know if they didn't speak English or just had something religiously against using groupchat but I can only assume they didn't speak English as they didn't even comment on "kick him?" talk going on in the chat - with really low dps and surviveability who kept hitting the scroll on Kena in vWGT. It was obvious we were not gonna make it after first try when both dps died within 10 seconds and then wouldn't stay up for more than a few seconds before dying again, but they hit the scroll again. And then again. And again.

How so? I can do either role. My dps dropped with Morrowind and I don't have all the new sets yet but I still well pull 25k+ dps single target in my dps outfit and I have Spc, Worm, Master Resto, Drain, Prayer, Warhorn, Orbs and Twilight for my healing one. How am I messing up the team with either of those?

On side note, yeah, people who appear to speak English yet still refuse to communicate are also extremely annoying. But this thread was specifically to share my frustration about non English speakers XD Non communicating when being able and needing to is a choice(and one of a...not very smart person, too), queueing for a challenging team acitivity without even having an option to communicate if anything goes wrong is even worse imo.

Console might be harder, but it shouldn't be an issue because Google Translate is a thing.

Even with the mistakes it will make you should be able to confer basic messages to sort issues that come up with a PUG.

I wouldn't say language barriers are as much of an issue as they once were unless it's forced to voice only.

I've queued several times and no one ever said or typed a word and completed vet dungeons hm. The only ones I care that people communicate aren't 2 newest ones.vCoS and vRoM. I leave right away if no one talks, but I rarely use group finder for those two dungeons. All the other vet dungeons hm are easy enough with no communication.
