@phermitgb that was a big problem for me too. Well, I was looking for different things but had the same issue - none of the houses were quite right.
I wanted a small house with some outside space in Glenumbra or Stormhaven. When the list of houses was first announced I thought Captain Margaux's Place (small house in Daggerfall) would be perfect. Then I saw it and not only was it only barely bigger than the apartment but it's just so square. It was really hard to imagine anything interesting to do with it.
There are houses which would be perfect - Autumn's Gate, Cyrodilic Jungle House, even Black Vine Villa. But they're all in the wrong locations.
After a lot of experimentation on the PTS and debating with myself I settled on Mournoth Keep. It costs more than I'd wanted to spend (about 6 times more gold than I'd ever had at one time) and is slightly bigger than I really wanted, but the location is almost exactly right, the layout is almost perfect and it looks beautiful (to me anyway).

I spent just over a million gold on Gardner House purely for this reason and mostly use it as a free teleport to hand in my Master Crafter writs for my DC crafter.I spent 40k gold on humblemud & regret it coz I only very occasionally use it as a free teleport, when I could have spent that gold on tempers!
