Still need disc in PS4 with Morrowind?

I am wondering something. I have the Elder Scrolls Online Gold edition on disc for PS4. This means I need to keep the disc in my PS4 in order to be able to play Elder Scrolls Online. I also preordered the digital upgrade to Morrowind for PS4. After the update, will I still be required to have the gold edition disc in my PS4?

Hope not, as then I can put the Skyrim Enhanced Edition disc in, meaning easier to swap between the two games.

On a PC, I have no issues swapping between games. I just click a different icon on my desktop. One of the many reasons I hate console games. They require the disk in order to play the game you purchased. If you lose the disk, or it gets damaged, guess what? You need to buy the game again...

To answer your question, Yes. You will probably still need the disk as $ony needs to be able to "validate" that you still own the game.

@PlagueSD You do realize that consoles do not force you to buy games physically now right? You can buy and play digitally through PS Store. One less thing to hate and rant about. It's a good thing to physically own what you purchase and also keep them in great condition throughout the years(If you're well kept that is).

Yes, if you did not buy it digitally you must keep the disk in your ps4 to play.

No, you do not. Morrowind is not actually a new game it's really just DLC for ESO. You will get a code with the physical edition that unlocks Morrowind the same way the other DLC packs worked. You won't need to swap disks.

I submitted a support ticket a while back on this because I have digital ESO and did not want to have to start using a disk if I bought physical Morrowind. Support confirmed that there will be a download code for Morrowind content.

Too bad I'll still need the disc. I know we can buy games digitally, but the gold edition disc in the shop was 25% of what I had to pay if I got it digitally.

Yeah that if you own digital first... OP made it clear that he owns the vanilla game on disc - so yes, yes he will be forced to still use a disk.

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone, but my mind is completely blown by the idea of using discs to play games these days. I've not even had a DVD drive for years now. It took me a while to convert at first tbh, I was initially resistant to the idea.

I think it gives certain people a greater sense of ownership with most games... however ESO is an exception because your account is sever side. It's like owning the disc for Destiny - the second the servers go down, you lose your account - so I don't know why people insist on physical ownership for these types of games.

However if we want to use something like Skyrim as an example, that will always be yours until the day you die - then I get where they're coming from, it's alot more reliable to own something in-hand than online, because alot of people recognize that if something happened like -say, Sony went bankrupt and shut down PSN, they'd atleast have their physical games left. Our online libraries are only safe and in our ownership as long as the parent companies are. PC is different for sure - but even I own the physical edition of all the TES games, the Anthology. (Which lol, surprise surprise, is all download codes for Steam despite containing disks.)

A large portion of games out today don't even have the full game on disc either - just bits and pieces alongside an unlock key - player's still have download chunks of the game and install them. Disk based is def. losing its place but it will be a while yet before its gone.

Companies / Developers are not really doing a great job at promoting digital versions of their products, considering that those versions usually cost more than the physical ones. It's not a lot but still cheaper. And now you can save even more on physical discs with Amazon Prime deals.

And in the end there's the whole re-sell argument. I prefer digital for all my platforms, but if I'm not sure whether I like a game or not I'd buy a disc.

The game is Elder Scrolls Online. Nothing has changed so yes you'll need a disc

My suggestion is to buy the digital base game ...gold if you didn't get a dlc code for the DLCs

A lot of it also depends on how much physical space you have to keep hard copies of stuff - between my husband and I we have over a hundred years worth of collected detritus - if we carried on getting physical copies of anything, we'd need a bigger house. Even "having" a disk doesn't mean you can use it forever, I have games on 3.5" floppy - I haven't had a drive that can read them in 15 years, and am not too bothered about keeping legacy equipment just so that I can play Grim Fandango - oh hold on I can, I got the remastered version on Steam. Disks and the equipment to read them will not be around forever except for people who enjoy collecting old hardware/tech. Sure, Steam may not be around forever either. But neither will I. :D
