Like seriously ZOS, you guys cant imagine the frustration of getting useless weapons. A whole trial to get an destructive mage bow? Rewards of the worthy giving out marksman resto staves? Stamina sets dropping magicka weapons and vice versa? As if RNG wasnt bad enough without all of these, this thing is annoying me to the bone!
Is there any REAL intention of implementing smart drops in the feasible future?

I understand both sides. RNGs make it so those items are not out and about in an overabundance. I just decon for the mats if I have an abundance of something. It sucks but it makes it a lot more rewarding when you finally get what you wanted. On the flip side, those that role through trials dozens of times and still come up empty handed.....That's more than a grind, that's an obsession and at some point, they just need to hit that jackpot.PS4/NA

✭✭✭RNG is awful in this game for a reason: it's an artificial time-sink to keep people playing (IMO, obviously).
It took me hundreds of Maelstrom runs to get any useful weapons for PvE (sharpened bow, sharpened daggers, sharpened inferno).
I raid constantly. Usually 2 times a night, 4 nights a week. Sometimes more if we pull a group on the weekends. I got one sharpened Infallible Aether Inferno to drop about 8 months ago, and I gave it away because I mained a stam toon at the time. The thing that cracks me up is that I have a great drop-rate on stuff like ... sharpened Infallible Aether daggers, sharpened Vicious Ophidian inferno staves, etc.
No way of knowing exactly but I'd guess I've run ~400 Trials since then and I haven't seen a single sharpened VO dagger, Infal staff, Twice-Fanged dagger, etc. 99.9% of the loot dropped in Trials stays on the ground. I can't even be bothered to pick it up to vendor it.
Hell, last night I got sick of Prosperous drops in ICP so I bought about 1200 key fragments from guild traders and went and hit up the chest in ICP. I got ... one ring of the Scathing Mage. Everything else was useless. Greatswords of the Scathing Mage, Resto staves of Sheer Venom, Shields of the Scathing Mage, a bunch of Prosperous and Training garbage.
I understand that some items should be rare but ZOS went way overboard in that regard. I don't think they know what "QoL" means, and I think they're scared to remove the artificial time-sinks because they believe people will stop playing the game. Which is kind of pathetic, honestly.
One great QoL change that absolutely should be implemented in Trials is to replace the double gold jewelry drop with a double weapon drop on Hard Mode. The jewelry is useless. After you've run Trials a half-dozen times you don't need any more jewelry, it's just vendor trash.4 -

Lavennin✭✭✭ESO can sort of get away with this nonsense, because it's not a game about farming better gear. One of the major reasons D3 was received so poorly was this. Not RNG; RNG is fine. But the poor, unskilled application of RNG.

✭I agree that rng is important and a intrinsic trait of mmo rpgs, however having pointless items, like alkosh infernos, which I should have a dozen already, is just depressing. I dont mind farming moondancer if i actually get bad traited weapons, but getting useless weapons is other story1 -

Yes, most of us know hybrids have never been competitive for high dps though many do like the builds and in PvP they've had some success. So with hybrids comes weapons the rest of us would never use even if they dropped in sets we want.1 -

The system is designed such that you will never get a piece that cannot work with the set's five piece bonus. For example you will never see an Inferno Staff of the Sword Singer, as the five piece bonus adds 400 weapon damage to your Two-Handed abilities. It will only drop in Two-Handed weapons.
Do I believe the system needs adjusting? Sure, but "smart loot" is working as intended.0 -

That's not what "Smart Loot" was supposed to address and that doesn't refute what Paulington said.
You can equip that Spriggan's Inferno Staff on a bar and have a skill that calculates mitigation using physical resistance on the same bar (e.g., Dawnbreaker or Rearming Trap).
"Smart Loot" means you shouldn't be able to get a Greatsword of the Spider Cultist Cowl (the 5-piece bonus is a bonus to Destruction Staff abilities, meaning it cannot be procced if you're using a weapon other than a Destro staff), and you shouldn't be able to get a Mace of Destruction Mastery (the 5-piece bonus gives max magicka when you have a Destro staff equipped, meaning it cannot be procced if you don't have a Destro staff equipped).
The loot drops in this game are dumb as a box of rocks but the "Smart Loot" system does exactly what the patch notes said it would do.1 -

@rafaelcsmaia if you were running some weird hybrid build where you had a bow on one bar and an destro staff on the other, it is possible that you'd still want the reduced stamina cost when you have the destro equipped. The 5-piece bonus is still (partially) usable regardless of what weapon you have equipped.0 -
