    Oh HELL no. Unless they delete the character, they still own those names. Not cool.
    If they delete the character or close their accounts, though, then they're fair game.
    Sometimes people take a year-long break from a game, then go back to it later after they've played a different game for a while. I've done that. I know I'm not the only one.

    Yeah I hate it when I go anywhere, game/forum/website and when i want to register with name of my choice, it's taken by someone that used service only 1 and then never came back in two years. I hate these naive policies "we dont interfere with accounts because we believe someone might still come back after 10000 months" that most companies use.

    Im not sure how true is this, but last time this was mentioned (name purge), someone said that one game company would send out mail to inactive players with a link and short description that they haven't been online for long and if they wish they can release their character name to other players by clicking link from mail.

    In one hand it's less intrusive than forced purge but on the other hand, I bet some players lack the decisiveness to tell themselves "I wont be coming back definitely" and will ignore these mails even if they don't plan on coming back.

    When I went back to DCUO and saw that my names were altered I just uninstalled.

    I think I have actually been pretty lucky with ESO.

    That said I generally have a formula to make names "my own" for example my main Tarvynus I took the Dunmer name Tarvyn and just added a us. (same way I came up with Turelus many years ago).

    I did try to get Pay To Warden on the last PTS but someone beat me to it. :disappointed:

    When Morrowind launched, I tried and got this name out of dumb luck. I think its cool.

    Should she be Stam or Mag? Nord is best for Stam but I could try either.
